What to visit in Crete for a week with a return to the hotel each evening?

Hi there, we’re heading to Crete from May 8th to 15th, staying at a hotel in Agia Pelagia, 20 km from Heraklion, on half-board, so we’ll be back every evening. What daily itinerary would you recommend? We love hiking and discovering local cultures... Thanks in advance!!

The best option is to rent a car so you can be independent. For example, you could visit Knossos and Phaistos. You could also spend a day in Heraklion and another in Rethymnon. For hiking, not far from Agia Pelagia, there are the Almiros Gorge.
