Where to stay in the Lofoten Islands?

Hi there, 🙂

Summer 2027 is going to be Norwegian for us! We’re heading to the Lofoten Islands first, then Senja, near Tromsø, and finally the North Cape. We’ll likely start from northern Finland (flight tickets and car rentals are more affordable there).

I’d like to book accommodations early to have more options. Good value-for-money places go fast in these pricey Nordic destinations...

But where should we book?

We’re planning to stay around ten nights in the Lofoten Islands.

What’s the best approach?

One place in the central part and explore from there?

One place in the south and another in the center?

Or one in the south, one in the center, and one in the north (3-4-3 nights)?

Our main goal is hiking.

Summer 2021: Tromsø, Senja, Andøya, Lofoten. In the Lofoten Islands, we stayed in three different places (east, center, west). I’d do the same again—even though there weren’t many people on the roads that year.

For Norway, good weather is the exception... For the Canary Islands, it's usually the bad weather.

Hi there! The distances are huge, the roads are beautiful but time-consuming. It might be better to plan a loop so you don’t spend all your days in the car. Tromsø makes a good "central base" to start—we found a great apartment-hotel with a small kitchen. From there, you can head to Senja and stay at the Senja Fjordhotell, one of the few places to stay in that part of the island. Further south, there’s also Skreda Rorbusuiter, which I really loved. Lots of electric vehicle rentals around. Charging stations are everywhere—it’s really the norm and super convenient. Have a great trip! !

We did: - Tromsø: 1 night (we’d already been there on a winter trip and wanted to leave as soon as possible to save time for the rest); - Senja: 3 nights; - Andøya: 2 nights; - Kabelvåg: 3 nights; - in the middle: 3 nights; - Reine: 4 nights; - return flight from Svolvær at 1 p.m. (so the morning was spent traveling from Reine to the airport).

It was great. A bit short in Andøya, but that wasn’t the main focus of the trip.

I've gotten back into the swing of things for planning this trip.

Prices in Norway are more outrageous than ever—the 4-3-3 pass isn’t exactly budget-friendly (there are discounts for 7+ consecutive nights).

For now, I’ve booked 8 nights near Leknes, but it’s cancelable.

I’m realizing that not all accommodations have opened their spring/summer 2027 calendars yet, and not all are listed on the usual Booking.com/Airbnb.

Any idea when summer 2027 prices will be available?

And any alternatives to the usual booking platforms for this country?
