Looking for 4x4 with or without driver in Mozambique

KayakMan · 2026-04-21

Hi everyone, We’re heading to Mozambique in October and are looking for either a 4x4 or 4x2 rental in Maputo, or a driver transfer option to reach: - Ponta Do Ouro - Tofo - Vilankulos The idea is to be self-sufficient for sightseeing and stops while still being able to access certain lodges or beaches that require a 4x2. Do you have any contacts, addresses, or ideas to share? Thanks in advance,

Did you mean a 4x4? The three main spots we’re considering are now accessible without a 4x4, and on-site, lodges that are hard to reach will pick you up if needed, while dive clubs will take you to the best sites in a 4x4. But of course, for total independence, a 4x4 is ideal. If you’re heading to Ponta do Ouro, make sure to visit Maputo National Park (4x4 required).

Nowadays, the big South African 4x4 rental companies have offices at Maputo Airport. Two amazing lodges: Dovela Eco Lodge Dunes (north of Inharrime) and Villas do Índico (north of Vilankulo)

Thanks Jean-Luc for your feedback. We’ll try without a 4x4—it’s harder to find and way more expensive. But we would’ve loved to "get lost" along the coast now and then, though we won’t be doing that. Either way, we still haven’t bought our flight tickets, given how much they’ve gone up...

Thanks
