Electronic Travel Authorization for England

There are rumors going around about the ETA: it must absolutely be on your smartphone in the "ETA" app.

Paper documents might not be accepted. Is this real or just a hoax? Thanks, I’m leaving in 3 weeks. My passport is good to go and my ETA is still valid for a year, but I only printed the email I received. Thanks everyone.

Hi, maybe check if you get a QR code—you know, those squares with smaller squares inside—whether it’s on paper or displayed on a smartphone. So, make sure that QR code is there.

Hi, I haven’t received anything except an email with my ETA number. I did some research online and on infos.gouv.fr, and found the following info: "If your application is approved, you’ll receive a confirmation email and your ETA will be electronically linked to the passport you used to submit your application. You must therefore use the same passport to travel."

It’s getting pretty complicated and expensive to travel to the UK: first, I needed a passport (90 €), then an ETA (16 €), and now there’s also a 15 € "pollution tax" on the ferry ticket. I think this is the last time I’ll be visiting the UK. Have a good day.

I did it yesterday—not on the app, since I couldn’t download it (password issue)—but on the website.

In the confirmation email I received, it clearly states that the authorization is linked to the passport, so you don’t need to print the paper (there’s no QR code anyway).

You don’t need to print or have a paper copy of the ETA. Showing your passport is enough. Likewise, there’s no need to have a copy on your smartphone. With your passport number, you’re “tracked.” No documents are required when crossing the border. Rest easy and travel stress-free.
