Parking and bus question for hiking in Samaria Gorge

P19 · 2026-05-08

Hi there,

I’m reposting about the logistics for Samaria Gorge. I’d love to get recent info, especially about whether it’s possible to park my car in Omalos, do the hike, and then catch a bus back to my vehicle. In theory, it’s doable, but when you check the KTEL website, there aren’t any feasible schedules listed. If anyone has recently organized this with reliable, verified details, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Question about parking and buses for hiking in Samaria Gorge

Hi there, here are the schedules still listed on the ektel.com site. Departures from Chania to Omalos: 5:00 AM, 7:45 AM, 8:45 AM. Gorge opening from the Xiloskalo trailhead: 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Once you arrive in Agia Roumeli, you’ll need to take the boat to Sougia. Boat schedules are on Anendyk.gr. The bus leaves Sougia at 6:15 PM and passes back through Omalos. It only departs after the boat arrives. At Omalos, parking at the foot of the national park information center is free (before the One-stop shop café). FYI, there are drinking water points along the route and picnic areas. Happy trip planning!
