Question about name matching between flight ticket and passport

NorrinRad · 2026-06-05

Hi there,

We're leaving for Albania on June 18th. When I validated the flight tickets with Wizz Air on Booking, I only put my son's first name but forgot to include his other three first names on the ticket. On the passport: SURNAME: Dupont, FIRST NAMES: toto titi tutu tata On the flight ticket: SURNAME: Dupont, FIRST NAME: toto I can't seem to reach anyone at Wizz Air to get an answer. Booking and Wizz Air's chat say I need to modify it, but ChatGPT says it should be fine. I wanted to know if he can fly like this or if I need to change his ticket? (It costs 140 €, I know I shouldn't have made a mistake🙁)

Thanks for your feedback.

Hello,

French travelers usually fly with just their first given name, the one listed first. There’s no issue with that.

Have a good evening.

Hello,

French people travel using only one of their first names, the first one. There’s no issue with that.

Have a good evening.

Thanks for your quick reply! :)

Hi there,

Just confirming. I’ve always used only my first name (the first one in the list) when buying flight tickets, even though my passport lists three. It’s never caused any issues.

Hi there,

I traveled with Wizz Air at the end of 2024. We only provided our first names, and we didn’t have any issues.

The only time I included all our first names was with Turkish Airlines, but only because it was required! I’ve never seen that anywhere else.

Have a great trip to Albania! 😛

I only entered all our first names on Turkish Airlines because it was requested! I’ve never seen that anywhere else

Out of a few hundred flights, I’ve never encountered this request before . No, Turkish Airlines isn’t any different from the others in that regard.

I just made a reservation with Turkish Airlines, and they actually asked for two first names as they appear on the passport. This is the first time I’ve included both, and since they’re on my passport, I did as requested. But I can assume that if I’d only put one, it wouldn’t have been an issue.

You must not have flown TK recently. Or you’re not paying attention to what’s required.

You probably haven't flown TK recently. Or you're not paying attention to what's required.

Never had such a request; yes, I bought a Budapest-Tokyo ticket just two weeks ago.

I'm traveling on TK, it was requested.

You didn't pay attention.

You’ve mostly misunderstood the question.

It’s mostly the middle name that isn’t clear here. 😇

Hi there,

The translation is poor, and your understanding is off too.

You don’t have a "second first name" in the way airlines mean it—that is, a "middle name." It’s a common misunderstanding and a clumsy translation. If you check the US version of the site, you’ll clearly see it says "name / middle name."

Also, on my booking, it’s possible to change the passenger’s name (but only once), which contradicts what you’re showing me.

I didn’t translate anything. It’s the TK site live.

So you’re saying this airline is terrible? Not even able to check what it asks for on versions of its site in languages other than English???

It's not you who’s translating. Things get mistranslated because it's done mechanically, without thought, detail, or nuance. Besides, it's not lexical—it's conceptual. The French words don’t capture the concept.

Not even able to check what she’s asking about on versions of her site in languages other than English???

Exactly like the others. Some, like ANA, go out of their way with a complicated chart to explain the same thing, but most people just follow common practice, and it’s not a problem. There’s no need to worry people with nonsense like this, even if you love formalistic stuff.

So TK is a terrible airline. Everything’s fine on the sites of other airlines where I bought a ticket.

Or maybe TK’s translation is actually correct...

It’s keeping a lot of discussions going online in the meantime. 😛

All airline websites have the same weak point—it has nothing to do with Turkish. And the more global the airline, the more complicated it gets. Expectations in this area depend on the passport's nationality; some have a middle name, others don’t. A competent check-in agent won’t get it wrong, which is why you never hear about problems 😊. Did you hear about an issue?

On the other hand, since you love problems, you’re just torturing yourself.

Type Turkish Airlines "Middle Name" into your search engine.

I think we’re pretty far off-topic from this thread.

Maybe you should start a new one that’s more relevant if you want to keep discussing this?

I think we’re way off topic here.

We’re off topic because there’s no real topic—just stuff you’re going on about because you don’t understand how things work.

The problem you’re imagining doesn’t exist, so stop feeding it just for the sake of it, so we can stick to serious answers and advice.

In any case, it’s really unhealthy to come here and mess with people who are looking for genuine, serious advice by projecting your own misunderstandings of the situation. I don’t get what pleasure you find in coming to spoil a topic you don’t even understand, risking unnecessary worry for others. It’s really disappointing.

Why are you talking about yourself while involving me?

Anyway, I think the author of this thread has long since gotten their answer from people who’ve traveled to Albania with Wizz Air.

Goodbye, Michel.

Neither Wizz Air nor Albania is the issue here.
