Where to stay in Hamburg for practicality the night before a cruise embarkation?

Hi there, The day before boarding the Costa Favolosa for the Norwegian Fjords cruise departing from Hamburg, I'd like to book a hotel. Which one would be the most convenient location-wise relative to the port? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hi there, I know Hamburg really well and regularly embark from there. I usually arrive by train the day before and stay at the Ibis Budget Sankt Pauli Messe hotel. It’s just a few hundred meters from the famous "Reeperbahn" in the picturesque Sankt Pauli district. Plus, it’s on the right side of Hamburg relative to the cruise terminal.

The Costa Favolosa docks either at the Altona terminal or the Steinwerder terminal. If you let me know your departure and return dates, I can tell you which terminal the Favolosa will be at. Last August, I boarded the Favolosa at Altona and disembarked at Steinwerder.

If you don’t mind walking a bit, you can easily save money on taxis by taking the U-Bahn and ferry. If you’re interested, I can give you all the details.

Alternatively, you could also spend the night near the train station and take the opportunity to explore Hamburg’s city center. It’s gorgeous, and many historic buildings are worth a detour. The hotel I sometimes stay at is the "Prize by Radisson Hamburg City."
