Marrakech with a backpack for 7 days: what to pack to handle the heat?

I’m planning a 7-day trip to Marrakech for a sports camp, and I’ll be traveling with just a standard carry-on backpack.

I’d love to hear your best tips and tricks: • What clothes are absolutely essential? • Any advice for managing the heat while traveling light? • Which accessories have been the most useful for you? • Mistakes to avoid on a first trip to Marrakech?

I’m also open to your recommendations for neighborhoods, restaurants, or activities not to miss during my free time.

For clothes, when are you leaving? If it's during the summer, go for fabrics like cotton and linen, and clothes like pants and simple t-shirts since dust gets everywhere. You can also pack long shorts, like bermudas (yes, some girls walk around in bikini tops and bare backs, but it’s not really part of the local culture, so it’s not very respectful). A hat, sunscreen, sunglasses... and wet wipes might come in handy too.

For mistakes to avoid, I’d say Jemaa El Fnaa square is definitely worth seeing, but don’t buy anything there because everything is much more expensive than elsewhere. Marrakech’s monuments are getting more and more popular, so when you can, book in advance or arrive early.

Hi there! It’d help to know when you’re planning this trip. In summer (July/August)? I wouldn’t really recommend it because of the extreme heat. Are you planning to stay in Marrakech for 7 days? If your trip is this summer, I’d suggest heading up to higher altitudes in the High Atlas. Around Imlil, Amizmiz, Seti Fatma, or Azilal… or even in the Ait Boughemez Valley to find some cooler weather.
