Diving and snorkeling in Thailand in July-August

We’re planning a trip to Thailand for next summer. It’s the rainy season, but that’ll let us explore forest parks (Khao Yai and Khao Sok, most likely) in full bloom and teeming with wildlife. We’d also like to spend a few days on beaches with nearby coral reefs during this trip. That’s where we’re hitting a snag—I’m struggling to find an island or region with favorable weather. I’ve gone through quite a few threads on this forum, but most are pretty old and mention a few names (Tao, Phaluai, Ma, or Phang Nga), though with doubts about visibility or overall appeal. Crowds also seemed like a bit of an issue. Just to clarify, our family has mixed interests when it comes to fish-related activities—some are Level 1 divers, while others are snorkelers only.

Are there any good options in July-August for great experiences in the area? Thanks for your tips!

Does he have psychic powers? This park doesn’t close according to a long-term fixed schedule but based on the intensity of rainfall in the region for that particular year. And even if it stays open, trekking through the jungle when the trails and vegetation are soaked quickly becomes a real slog. Some other parks are even systematically closed from May to October. I doubt a provider who makes a living from the park is the best person to ask for an objective answer on this.

A word of caution about wearing swimsuits from a certain brand when swimming in Khao Yai National Park:

My tip: prioritize July over August.

At Khao Yai, one trail and viewpoint are still closed in July, but this doesn’t stop you from discovering the other main attractions. Other than that, if you’re unlucky, you might hit a period of heavy rainfall where everything closes from one day to the next, but statistically, you’re not taking too much of a risk.

Khao Sok is in the rainiest region of Thailand, so let’s hope you get some calm days.

This season, it’s tricky for the islands, especially since the sea is quite rough. Only Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao generally have milder weather.

Juste un petit mot pour la plongée ( bouteille) et accessoirement le snorkeling Allez en priorité à Koh Tao.J'imagine que ça a dû bien changer depuis que j'y suis allé ( 1977) Mais les fonds étaient bien meilleurs qu'à Phangan... quant-à Koh Samui c'était déjà dégradé et pollué au milieu des années 80. J'éviterais cette île bien bétonnée et polluée. Évitez aussi la mer des Andaman( Phuket) au climat peu favorable en ( juillet/ août)

bonjour le parc de Khao Yai c'est ma première expérience dans la jungle. J'y suis resté quelques jours il y a longtemps de cela et j'ai perdu le sentier ce qui fait que j'ai dormi à la belle étoile dans la végétation 🙂. Mais il vaut mieux prendre un guide évidemment. Pour ce qui est des animaux on n'en voit pas toujours mais le guide évidemment montrera les traces d'animaux. Ne pas oublier qu'un max d'animaux ont une activité nocturne

Nous aimerions pouvoir faire un petit séjour sur des plages avec des récifs coralliens pas loin sur ce séjour. C'est là que le bât blesse car j'ai du mal à trouver une ile ou une région avec une météo propice. @Songsam merci pour les photos. Est-ce un crotale des bambous ? @Jojoone: on en rigole mais j'ai vu passer une info comme quoi un touriste s'était fait piétiner en Thaïlande. Donc c'est certain il faut faire attention à l'endroit où on s'installe 😉

Oui. Sans certitude tout laisse penser que c'est une femelle tandis que celui de Jojoone semble être un mâle.

Si, comme je n'en doute pas, toi aussi tu as rapporté la bestiole chez toi, au printemps prochain on les présentera et on verra bien s'il se passe quelque chose...
