India travel plans

Hi Christine, What a wonderful trip you have in store, but that’s a lot of kilometers and time needed! What are you looking for: a ready-made itinerary that fits your expectations, or to create your own? Independent travel, with family, or with friends? What time of year? What’s your budget? Rajasthan is already huge—wouldn’t it be better to dedicate your whole trip to it and maybe plan a southern India circuit for later? My experience: In 2020, we went to India for 24 days with plans to explore Rajasthan and then head south. A previous trip to Rajasthan, Varanasi, and Delhi in 1997 (16 days) quickly put me off because of the distances, the heat, and the bus rides. In the end, we decided to stay in Rajasthan and planned a southern India trip for the following year. We wanted a relaxed trip, so we chose to travel by car with a driver and stayed at least 2 nights in each place. We booked the hotel nights in advance. It was a chill, low-stress trip.
