What to visit from Atami?

Hi there,

I’m staying in Atami for 2 nights in October. I was thinking of exploring the area and trying to see Mount Fuji.

I was planning to go to Shizuoka. And also enjoy the onsen (hot springs).

Don’t hesitate to share any tips or recommendations—I’d love to hear them!

Since you want to try seeing Mount Fuji, I think the best plan would be to dedicate your short day (remember, it’s already nearly dark by 4:00 PM in October) to exploring Hakone: From Atami, take a regular train to Odawara, then continue on the Hakone-Tozan line to Gora, and take the two cable cars that will bring you to Lake Ashi. You can cross the lake by boat, then take a bus back to Hakone-Yumoto, then Odawara, and return to Atami. (Check the site: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e5223.html) I’ve done it, and the views are stunning—plus, the Hakone-Tozan line has those switchbacks!

Thanks for the suggestion. But I’ve already been to Hakone and I’d like to try a different destination.
