What a wonderful project—after all the extraordinary trips you’ve already taken! Your profile photo is simply stunning and reminds me of Mali... Where I cycled for a month in the Dogon Country. It was my only way to get around, and I loved it.

You don’t specify whether you’d like to go through Italy or France, or where you’d take a boat.

Have you considered the ViaRhôna? I think it passes through Isère if I’m not mistaken, but I imagine other VF members will have all the info you’re looking for... https://www.viarhona.com/ I’d say spring would be the best time, though that’s just my personal opinion... (it rains then too, of course).

The photo on my profile is from Cameroon. However, my first big trip was in 2002, from Dargoire, my little village in the Loire, all the way to Bamako—alone, without a phone, just IGN maps and my compass. Sometimes I went 4 days without seeing anyone. I carried 10 liters of water just in case. I had an amazing welcome and memories that will stay with me forever. After 6,000 km, I came back as thin as a gasket. I drank water from the well like they did, without any purification tablets, and I never got sick—I’ve got plenty of antibodies now. After that, I passed my love of bike travel on to my wife, and every year we’ve traveled together. Your app for hosting cyclists is awesome.

Thanks for this little tale from a great adventurer! I hope you find your route without too many elevation changes... As for the app, it’s quite new—I signed up because I’m near a greenway linking the Canal du Midi to the Pyrenees foothills. Wishing you and your wife great preparations!
