Road trip in Oman with a 13-year-old teen

Hi there, I’m heading to Oman this coming October with my 13-year-old son for 11 days. My plan is to rent a car, probably a 4x4, to reach villages in the mountains, among other places. We’ll be sleeping in a tent the whole trip. Since it’s a short stay, we’ll stick to the eastern part of the country, from Muscat to Duqm, most likely. Any recommendations?! Things to know, like where to exchange money without high fees, a reliable car rental agency, road safety tips, wildlife like snakes, and anything else...
