Booking accommodations in the High Atlas for November 2026

Hi everyone, Our trip to Morocco will be from November 3 to 17, in the High Atlas. Basically, our route would be: Marrakech - Aït Benhaddou Skoura - Tinghir - Merzouga Merzouga via the N12 to Zagora Zagora - Draa Valley - Marrakech

It seems to be the low season, so I’d love to travel without having to book accommodations in advance. In other countries, pre-booking has restricted us and kept us from visiting unplanned sites. Freedom is important to us, but I’d also like to avoid arriving somewhere and finding nothing available. What do you recommend? Book ahead or not? Your advice is always helpful, and thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this for me. Roberto

hi there, this shouldn’t be an issue. It’s a country with plenty of hotel capacity, so I don’t think it’ll be a problem. If there aren’t any rooms available in Ait Benhadou, there’s Ouarzazate

In Marrakech, it's recommended to book ahead. For the rest of your trip, it's not necessary. But to avoid any potential hassles, I usually make a note of a few interesting places to stay in advance and contact them as I get closer to the area (the same day for that evening) to check availability.

Actually, when a tourist arrives in a touristy spot without knowing where they'll sleep yet, all the touts spot them in 30 seconds... and it's a pretty annoying routine every time to fend them off one after another (you don’t always keep smiling when you’re repeatedly dealing with that kind of "harassment").

Do you make a little list of recommended accommodations from the forums? It’ll make things easier for you. It’s always better to know where you’re going. That way, you avoid bad surprises and don’t end up going in circles.

Hi Murielle, Sure thing, for Marrakech it’s obvious that booking ahead is best. For the other spots, we’ve got a few ideas on where to stay—we just want to keep our options open in case we change our minds... Hey Roberto, no need to worry about hotels in Morocco—they’re often excellent quality. I really loved the hotel in Imlil: simple but with a great Berber style. In Marrakech, I stayed in a small hotel that was really nicely decorated, though I can’t seem to find it again now.
