Stay near Agios Nikolaos: what to visit in the area?

Hi there, We're heading to Crete at the end of September, staying in a hotel near Agios Nikolaos—Zeus Premium Mirabello Bay. Has anyone stayed there before, or at least in that area? What are the possible outings? Are there buses to get around easily? Is the weather still pleasant then? Thanks for your feedback!

Yes, the weather is still very nice at this time of year—you can swim without any problem. You can use public transport to get to the center of Agios Nikolaos. The place is quite touristy, but by late September, there’ll be fewer people.

It all depends on what you want to do, but you can also rent a car to explore the island.

Buses on the Agios Nikolaos–Elounda–Plaka line pass by the hotel. Other destinations are available from the Agios Nikolaos bus station. For outings and activities, check the links on my profile.

Thanks for your reply! I quite like using buses—they’re cheaper... I checked out your site, and we do enjoy visiting, but I have mobility issues, so I can’t venture into the great outdoors, much to my husband’s disappointment—he’s super sporty!
