Where to go for a budget-friendly festive atmosphere with the family (no skiing)?

Hello, I’m looking for a snowy destination in Europe that’s accessible by car from Lille, not too expensive, and family-friendly. We have two kids aged 4 and almost 9. We don’t ski—we just want to soak up the Christmas vibe, go on short walks, and sled right outside our rental.

We’d considered Slovakia (the Tatras—but that’s 15 hours by car) or the Czech Republic (closer—Jizera Mountains, Korenov). We’re also hoping for some sightseeing (castles, monuments) and that festive Christmas atmosphere.

Do you think the Czech Republic would work for us for a week? Thanks,

hi, otherwise there’s Zakopane in Poland. I think in terms of price, Poland is a tad cheaper than the Czech Republic. Alternatively, in Romania, places like Sinaia or even Toplița, Vatra Dornei... Romania is still pretty budget-friendly anyway

Good evening—the issue with Sinaia is that the town is nestled in the Prahova Valley :) You can visit Peleș Castle, and Brașov is just a few kilometers to the north. Of course, you can explore the area. Alternatively, from Zakopane, you can head to Kraków.
