Taking a few cooking classes in Cambodia?

Gallaumar · 2008-11-20

Dear friends,

I’m a chef and, while traveling in Cambodia, I’d love to take a few cooking classes—just like I did in Thailand and Brazil. Does anyone have any tips or maybe a good address to share? Thanks in advance!

As a first idea, I’d recommend "Le Tigre de Papier"... It’s also a restaurant and a hotel in Siem Reap. But Ugolin probably knows better than me since it’s more his area than mine! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hello ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ˜‰,

Since my opinion is wanted, I’ll go ahead—though I humbly admit I’m much happier at the very end of the chain when it comes to cooking, in other words, sitting at the table๐Ÿ˜›! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

At Le Tigre de Papier in Siem Reap, the restaurant’s cook (Cambodian) offers cooking classes in the late morning.

The owner is the VF member: tigrepapier (JL, if you’re reading this, we send you big hugs ๐Ÿ˜‰).

Their website: http://www.letigredepapier.com/fr/

Obviously, I can’t give a proper review since I’m not a pro, but at least it exists๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜.

I think a VF member took the classes and shared their experience in a post. Try the site’s search function...๐Ÿ˜‰

Best regards, Ugolin70

Thanks Roger and Ugolin! I’d noted this address in the Lonely Planet, but I’m afraid these classes might be more of a recreational activity than a real initiation for professionals... I’ll definitely check out the paper dragon when the time comes for the unavoidable visit to this mythical city... For me, the ideal would be to do a mini internship "at Grandma’s in Cambodia," but would the tiger share his steak by introducing me to the Khmer culinary scene...? You never know... Solidarity among colleagues exists...

For sure, at "Grandma's"... you set the bar somewhere else!...

Don’t worry, you’ll find opportunities everywhere—just ask, show interest, and be open to exchange. Don’t rush. Asian cooking is especially time-consuming and often requires many hands, but the chance has to present itself... Otherwise, everyday meals are rice, prahoc (fermented fish paste), and often raw vegetables... or dishes bought from street vendors, packed in plastic bags, and brought home, especially in cities!

Wise words, Roger! Opportunity makes the thief, and since I'm not in a hurry, I'll surely find someone to teach me how to cook crabs, shrimp, and fish... Around Kampot, it seems to be wonderfully flavorful down there!!! And that famous pepper!!! Khmerci, Roger!

Hey there, how’s it going! 😊

I’m doing great! !๐Ÿคช

Maybe you’ve met Choisette at Cyclo… She was delighted too and loved the food on Koh Dach—super varied! Big prawns in green pepper sauce, green curry dishes… and green beans! !๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

So good! ;)

hi, in Siem Reap, there's Champey, which serves fine Cambodian cuisine. The owner is French, he's heading back to France for the holidays but will be back in January. He's more than happy to introduce you to his chef (who speaks French) if you'd like. One of the best restaurants serving refined Khmer cuisine in Siem Reap.

Hello or good evening, depending on when you read this message!

Hi, my name is Johnson Condรฉ. I’m looking for a serious person who can manage an investment in your country as my business partner. A reliable partner for large-scale projects like real estate, hospitality, the textile industry, agriculture, or selling building materials. And if you have other profitable projects in mind, feel free to share them so we can discuss how to make them happen together. Even if you already have a project but your budget isn’t enough, I’m ready to lend a strong hand as a partner to help you complete it. I’d also appreciate your advice on which sectors are most profitable to invest in where you live.

If you’re capable and have the opportunity to manage these projects in your country—and since I don’t have experience in your local business world—I can offer you 5 percent of the investment sum before signing a partnership contract.

You can reach me on WhatsApp: +33745455534. Looking forward to hearing from you. Warm regards and God bless our collaboration!
