Renting a motorcycle in Dakar for a month?
Pluriel · 2009-04-23 · Message 1 of 5
Is it possible to rent a motorcycle in Dakar for a medium-term period (5 weeks) to travel to Labé and back? Several guides told me the trip is worth it (max 200 km per day) since the roads in Senegal are paved. If you have experience with this, I’d appreciate any tips!

That sounds like a fantastic travel plan! It’s really inspiring. You’ll see, the Fouta Djallon is extraordinary.
As for the motorcycle, renting one at a reasonable price might be quite difficult.
If I were you, I’d consider buying a new or used Korean or Chinese motorcycle (125 cc) in Dakar for around 600,000 CFA francs (for a new one) and selling it when you return (for about 400,000 or 450,000). I think that would be more economical. In that case, plan for 3 days in Dakar to make sure you can sell it when you get back.
Watch out for the roads—they can be really treacherous for two-wheelers.

Following your ad about renting a motorcycle for the Dakar–Labé route,
I wanted to let you know that I’ve done this trip by motorcycle five times, and you should know that the paved road ends at Manda Douane on the Senegalese side, and the rest of the route is practically rally-style terrain.
Happy to guide you.

Hey Gomez,
Is the route doable?
You’d need to cover 200 km per day... so that’s 5 days to go from Labé to Dakar?
