M'semrir-Tamtatouche track in Morocco (4x4 required)

The track connecting the Dadès Gorge to the Todra Gorge is passable again! The collapsed section (near Tamtatouche) has been repaired (May 2010). It's a rocky and bumpy track... especially in the riverbeds, but it's doable! Warning: 4x4 is mandatory!!! 🙂

Great news! I attempted this route in November 2008 from M'semrir to Tamtatouche in a Land 110. The start of the track in the wadi bed didn’t cause me any particular problems, even though I often had to get out to scout the best path between the biggest rocks. The rest was much trickier due to a snow bridge collapsing over a crevasse when the Land’s rear axle passed over it. It was only after several hours of work with a Hi-Lift jack that we managed to fill the gap under the wheels with stones. A few kilometers later, the vehicle slid on a slope while trying to bypass a collapsed section. Traveling alone, it was tough to get out of that spot and then turn around. Navigating the wadi at night wasn’t easy, and we arrived frozen at one of the few hostels open in the gorges at that time of year. Yet in M'semrir, I’d been assured the track was passable (by a so-called guide on the right as you leave the village). Cheers,

You said the track is doable right now? Just wanna be sure we won’t get stuck...

Yes, I confirm! It was passable (in May 2010...). Just some rocky sections in the wadi beds, but no problem! 4x4 is still a must, though... goes without saying... but better to say it anyway...😉

We went through in mid-May with no issues at all. The first section is under construction, so it's smooth driving. The second part through the wadi was fine except for one spot where we had to find a way through, but even that wasn’t a problem.

The only downside in the Atlas Mountains is the rain, which can sometimes make the terrain unpredictable. So, check the weather from the previous days before hitting the track, and if rain’s in the forecast, it’s best to skip it—otherwise, the wadi might be flowing.

In April 2009, it took 3h30 to complete the route—it’s doable, but in the wadi: rocks, rocks, and more rocks. Stunning landscapes
