Day hikes from Mestia (Georgia)

I was wondering if there are any nice day hikes from Mestia with potentially great views of Elbrus???

You can check out http://www.caucasus-trekking.com/ and also http://www.svanetitrekking.ge/eng/. But forget about views of Elbrus. The most beautiful day hike might be the Ushba glacier, but it starts in Mazeri, not Mestia.

No, you won’t get a great view of Elbrus, but I think Mount Ushba is more beautiful, and it’s not far from Mestia. You can do various hikes, including day trips, by heading up the small secondary valleys on the north bank of the Inguri. Make sure to buy a topo map beforehand—the trails are rarely marked.

Hi Meg, Do you have any hiking routes starting from Mestia? And of course to Ushguli—I’ll have a 4x4 this time, so it’ll be easier to hike for two or three days.
