Hiking and biking in the Alps

Hi, My boyfriend and I are looking to spend a week in the Alps at the end of August. But since we only know the region in winter, I have no idea where to start! I’d like to avoid the big resorts with apartment blocks and instead head for a typical village, with great hikes (on foot and by bike) and ideally near a lake, river, or water spot.

All suggestions are welcome!!! :)

Annecy and the shores of its lake all the way to Faverges biking: the greenway from Annecy to Faverges to Albertville (40 km) and routes toward Leschaux, the Bauges—pretty quiet spots hiking: tons of trails

Hi there, for hiking, I’d recommend the Southern Alps—Queyras, Cerces, Ubaye, or the higher areas like Écrins and Dévoluy. For cycling, I’d suggest the Prealps instead: Drôme, Le Buëch, Vercors, or Chartreuse.

Well, I’m from Lorraine—uh, Grand Est now—and I’d suggest: => A spot near Briançon (Puy St Pierre, Puy St André, Villar St Pancrace, St Chaffrey, Le Villard Laté, or a bit more remote toward Cervières?)

Local rivers: Durance, Guisane, Cerveyrette

Easy hikes: Croix de Toulouse, Cervières, Clarée Valley (e.g., Granon village), etc.

Biking/MTB: Lautaret, Galibier, Izoard starting from Briançon, Izoard or Col de Vars starting from Guillestre (less cool), Granon (even less cool), etc.

Just a few kilometers from Italy and the Queyras...

I’ve got a question that brings me here—I’m looking for a route starting roughly from the Nîmes area, taking a peek at the Luberon, to get to Sisteron, and I’d like to follow the Durance. If you’ve got any suggestions, I’m all ears.

I’ll be coming from Ariège, heading to Nîmes, and after that, I’m open to any ideas.

I’ll be bivouacking, and as for climbs, not too high—nothing over 2000m for me now, given my advanced age!!!! Anyway, thanks in advance.
