Since the DR is right next to Haiti, I was wondering if voodoo is also practiced there? And how can you attend these ceremonies?

🙂 ...... The Dominican Republic, which neighbors Haiti, certainly has many undocumented workers from that country attempting to practice some voodoo ceremonies, but it's in Haiti where these practices are most intense due to the slaves who were "imported" to work on plantations. However, voodoo traces its roots back to Africa and is primarily practiced in Benin....
You don't "attend" these ceremonies, as they're confidential, though some tourists pay crazy amounts to see "imitations" of voodoo ceremonies...... you really need to be initiated.....

Thanks for your replies.
I did see on some websites that local agencies offer the chance to attend these ceremonies, but at least the description was honest—it was labeled "for tourists," so it didn’t seem very interesting to us.
I think we’ll just have to settle for watching documentaries about it on cable! It’s better than nothing—unless we get some unbelievable stroke of luck!..

To attend a vaudou ceremony, you need to be very respectful of local beliefs and traditions. However, some communities or groups may organize ceremonies open to visitors,
It’s also a good idea to check with local sources or cultural organizations to see if such ceremonies are available to visitors while respecting the customs and spirituality of the participants.
