Buying screw-on gas canisters in Morocco

I'm heading out on a fully self-sufficient trek in Morocco (10 days) from Imilchil to Aghbalou. Can I find screw-on gas canisters (Coleman, Primus) in Marrakech (any addresses?) or in villages between Imilchil and Aghbalou? If not, are Butagaz canisters for camping gas (small 230g size) available? Thanks in advance for your tips!

Hi, Coleman and Primus are almost impossible to find in Morocco, and way too expensive when you do...

You can find C230 cartridges in Marrakech at small hardware district shops, but the screw-on models cost 10 or 20 MAD per canister—five to ten times more expensive near the city center.

Alternatively, Decathlon Menara was supposed to get some in December when I was looking for the same thing. They still hadn’t received them by February when I stopped by again, but they might’ve arrived by now... You can ask them here:

Hi there, I’m bumping this thread because I need the info. I’ll be arriving in Marrakech at the end of the month for a trek in the Saghro and need a screw-on gas cartridge for my stove. No info on Decathlon’s website in Marrakech. It’d be surprising not to find any, though. If anyone has any tips?

Really well detailed, by the way 😉 On the dkat site, gas cartridges aren’t listed, but it seemed weird they wouldn’t offer any. 5/6 days to do the Saghro loop—do you confirm going counterclockwise for the trek? I hesitated between the north-south route from Tagdilt to N’Kob—any thoughts?

Both directions are possible: especially when camping, the stages are flexible. For your other question, my trip was too long ago—I don’t really remember. I just know the loop I suggested seemed ideal at the time.

Hi Jérôme, could you share an update on your search for gas in Marrakech? I’m heading out in two weeks to trek from Aït Bouguemez to Imlil, and if possible I’d prefer to bring my MSR stove, which needs screw-on cartridges (EN417). But if it’s too hard to find, I’ll just take my Camping Gaz stove instead…

So I’m answering my own post for anyone else looking for gas: the "Atlas Extreme" shop in Imlil sells screw-on cartridges (EN417). You can either pick up the cartridge at the shop or have it shipped for an extra 10 €, so you can collect it at your hotel in Marrakech. The price is a bit steep (20 € for a 450 g cartridge, not including shipping), but it’s the price of peace of mind...
