Dakhla - Nouadhibou Bus

Hi there,

For the Dakhla - Nouadhibou route, everyone only talks about taxis costing 350 - 400 MAD. But the bus only costs 260 MAD (Supratours). I’ve been searching in vain for info or testimonials from people who’ve taken the bus to Nouadhibou.

So, how’s the bus? And why does no one seem to take it?? Am I about to make a mistake or what?

Yeah, I think you’re mistaken.

No Supratours bus, and no bus at all.

Either you figure out how to find a truck that’ll take you (but they know the prices—usually, you’ll pay the same as a shared taxi, though you can always try bargaining), or you take a shared taxi (4 passengers) from the taxi station for 500 MAD (not 350 or 400). That taxi will take you to Nouadhibou after stopping at Guerguerat to cross the border.

I got this price at the Supratour office where it’s displayed on the door. The agent confirmed the bus exists... ?? They told us we’d change buses at the border, but that the price included transport between the two cities.

So what’s the deal? Is the Supratour office and its employee lying? Are they taking the money and the bus never shows up, and we’d be the only ones scammed in this whole thing? I don’t get it.

If a national company is selling a ticket to Nouadhibou, I’d hope we can trust them... but I find it really strange that no one’s ever heard of this route. Maybe it’s brand new?

This must be super recent—I can hardly believe it... and even more so the one-time payment. Supratours is a state-owned company; I can’t see them having a payment policy with a Mauritanian bus company. They’re at odds with each other.

And except for a few minibuses, there aren’t any buses in Mauritania...

Here are the prices posted at the Supratour office.

I spoke to someone who confirmed they took this bus. She said it was really good and that you only had to change buses at the borders.

The long-awaited project might have finally delivered something small! An agreement between Morocco, Mauritania, and Senegal was signed in 2014 for a Casa-Dakar road link, partnering CTM Supratours with Mauritanian and Senegalese companies.

In any case, this is definitely a story to follow with interest.

For what it's worth, Supratours is a privately-owned company, even if some of its shareholders appear to be public entities.

This is the first time I’ve heard about it... I took this route for the first time in 2014 (late October): no one on any forum or in person mentioned this bus... ??? Same thing last year... it’s still kinda weird...😕

You're like Doubting Thomas 😉, the guy tells you he's just come back from Supratour with confirmation that this route exists at a price of 250 €. I think he can read and understand what he's being told. You certainly know Morocco well, but some info might have slipped past you. 😉

Mostly: he was asking a question that I answered with surprise. A question no one has answered yet by saying “yes, I know about it, I took this bus.”

Of course we're all interested! It'll make life easier for anyone like me traveling to Mauritania by bus... (well, so far by taxi). Since I just edited my previous message, the question was: do you know about it, have you taken it? And no one knows yet. At least, no answers so far. Some forum members in Marrakech are going to check it out tomorrow.

hello I did see some big buses at the Morocco border, but no bus at PK55 .... and no Mauritanian bus crosses the no-man's land, so travelers need a way to "cross". I'll let you know if I see anything unless Supergirafe updates us first—fingers crossed!🙂

Hi! Relations between Morocco and Mauritania aren’t great, but with Morocco’s push to join ECOWAS, it’s very possible a Morocco-Mauritania route could be launched. I just saw a photo on Supratours’ site, and apparently a Morocco-Senegal route is also planned (it says "coming soon"). Either way, this would be really great news!

Of course, everyone will be happy. It's easy and more comfortable.

From 'coming soon' Moroccan-style! A Morocco-Senegal-Mauritania agreement was signed in 2013.

No worries! Even though I’ve never heard of anyone who’s actually done it, it’s still a better option than RAM’s 300 € tickets or the bush taxis for me since I’m heading to Senegal, and for anyone else who wants to make this trip. But what about Guerguerat?

Hi everyone. It's dame supergirafe, just arrived in Nouadhibou.

I was planning to write a more detailed description later, but since you're all eager to know, we took the bus at 8 AM this morning from Dakhla (though we didn’t leave the city until around 9 AM). By 2 PM, we arrived in Guergarat, and by 3 PM, we had our exit stamps. We were then taken in a minivan from the El Moussavir company to cross the no man’s land. At the Mauritanian customs, the driver handled everything—he guided us and stayed with us until everyone was done, then we got back in the minivan. At the junction with the N2, another minivan picked up passengers heading to Nouakchott, and we continued toward Nouadhibou. In the city, they dropped us off directly at our campsite. It’s now 6:30 PM.

In short, it took a bit longer than a taxi, but we always felt safe. At 260 MAD, I’d recommend it.

With the taxi... you never know what time it'll be full. So after that, it's the ? Both times I arrived in the middle of the afternoon. The second time, the taxi wasn't allowed to cross the border... A driver for Ali was hanging around there... So we left with him. We let them sort out the money.

Hello, Yes, but that’s not the main reason—it’s mostly Morocco’s desire to join ECOWAS, which requires free movement of people and goods between member countries.

Add to that the existing trade between Mauritania and Morocco (camel meat and milk, fruits, and vegetables).

But the real target is Senegal. Relations with that country are very, very good. There are many Moroccans living in Dakar, where there’s been a Moroccan quarter for over a century, and vice versa. All these people find flights too expensive, especially since we’re talking about students and families of 4-6 people—multiply that by 300 €-500 €...

Not to mention tourism—being able to travel Morocco-Dakar-Ouagadougou-Cotonou more easily would be great for the whole region and make a lot of people on this forum happy 😉

You’re welcome. You can even go to the Souk there and buy babouches, djellabas... on Mohamed V Street. Actually, it’s merchants and artisans from Fez who settled there back in the 19th century over several generations.

I can confirm Supergirafe’s message.

I went to the Supratours agency at Bab Doukkala in Marrakech this morning. They called Dakhla and confirmed that this bus does exist.

I didn’t doubt Supergirafe’s word, but I wanted to buy my tickets in advance. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible—you have to buy them directly in Dakhla.

I can confirm there’s a daily Dakhla-Nouakchott bus connection in both directions, with a change at the border, thanks to an agreement between two bus companies FROM BOTH COUNTRIES.
