Ten days in the Salvador de Bahia region

Hi there, Next week, we're heading to the Bahia region for 10 days. Besides visiting Salvador, I'm torn between heading north to Praia do Forte or south to Itacaré. We'll be traveling by bus. I'd love to do both, but I'm worried I won't be able to enjoy it if I try to do too much. If you've been to these places, I'd love to hear about your experiences. Thanks in advance.

Audrey, It all depends on what you're looking for... Itacaré is good if you're looking for a great surf spot, but apart from that there's NOTHING to do or see. Praia do Forte is a small fishing village that's become touristy but still has a pleasant charm. From there, you can visit other villages further north (like Imbassai, for example) or further south (like Arembepe or Jaua), and you're closer to Salvador for sightseeing trips 😉 Tropical greetings from Salvador, Ivan Bahia

Hi Ivan, thanks for the info. I never imagined there’d be nothing to do in Itacaré except surfing. My partner surfs, but I don’t, so I might get bored 😉 Are there nice beaches to the north as well?

What’s the weather like in Salvador right now? (If you live in that part of Bahia) I checked the forecast, and rain is predicted pretty regularly. Generally, are these short showers or actual longer downpours?

Personally, I went to Morro de São Paulo and to Boipeba, a magnificent, paradise-like island with welcoming people... paradise! Don’t miss it. Have a great trip

Sorry for the late reply, but August was super busy with all the French August holidaymakers here in Salvador and Bahia in general 😎 The weather’s a bit windy right now, a little cooler for the season (27°C) and some passing showers (what we call "chuva rapida" here).

I know the Praia do Forte area well—it’s a beautiful place. It’s about 30 minutes from Salvador by car or bus. The area doesn’t have great healthcare facilities, but it’s nice and close to Salvador. There are good hotels and hostels. You can try typical foods and a variety of dishes. The climate is hot, so it’s best to avoid too much sun exposure. Nearby, there are some lovely beaches you can visit. The main issue is safety—be careful with people, your money, etc., at all times of the day. Don’t worry! It’s going to be amazing! Willemon

I recommend going to Praia do Forte. Praia do Forte is a beautiful and calm beach. There are good restaurants. Watch out for the weather: it's a hot place. Also, be mindful of safety. In Praia do Forte, there's the "Projeto Tamar," which is an ecological project focused on marine wildlife; they have a fantastic zoo!

Don’t worry about choosing which is the best beach—they’re both gorgeous, just pick one so you can get to know a lot.

The local dishes are unique in this region, so enjoy them to the fullest.

Hi Audrey, I know the northern region of Bahia well, and I can tell you that Praia do Forte is fabulous, but it’s not the only attraction in the area. The northern coast of Bahia is stunning and offers options for everyone, from luxury hotels to cozy little hostels. Consider heading further north to the Sauípe coast, Praia do Condé, and Mangue Seco. These are beautiful spots that’ll give you unforgettable experiences. Have a great trip!
