Phrae to Sukhothai Route

Hello, I’m slowly making my way down toward central Thailand and then Cambodia.

Today I’m heading to Chiang Rai, then on to Phrae and Sukhothai next.

Are there any buses that run between Phrae and Sukhothai? I can’t find anything very clear :(

Either go via Phitsanulok and Uttaradit, or via Tak. I don’t think there’s a direct route.

It’s not always easy—like trying to make the Chiang Rai to Phrae trip via Greenbus. We couldn’t buy tickets at the first bus station, so we’ve got to go to the second one tomorrow morning without knowing any schedules... 😒

And there’s no info on the Greenbus website.

Yes, there are buses between Phrae, Nan, and Phitsanulok (central station), and you can catch the connecting bus straight away to Sukhothai.

Hi there, I’m adding a more recent reply here in case it helps someone. In 2024, we had no issues taking these bus routes: Chiang Mai to Phrae, then Phrae to New Sukhothai, and finally Old Sukhothai to Bangkok.

The hardest part was getting the ticket counter in Chiang Mai to understand the name "Phrae" !

I’m adding a more recent reply here in case it helps someone. In 2024, we had no issues taking the following bus routes: Chiang Mai / Phrae then Phrae / New Sukhothai then Old Sukhothai / Bangkok.

Still valid in early 2025.

No wonder—if you pronounced it "Frahé," they wouldn’t have had a clue what you meant... PLÊÊÊ

This story earned us a good moment at the ticket counter—they wanted to send us to Pai!

Really friendly! Great encounters at the evening market. We rented a car for a day to explore the countryside—it was really nice too.
