Short trip to Porto in September

Hi everyone, We're heading to Porto with a small group of friends from September 10th to 14th. I carefully read Pinacoladada’s travel journal, which is already packed with great info—thanks to her! I don’t like falling into tourist traps—could you recommend must-see spots, transportation, restaurants, and shopping tips? (Yes, sorry, I want to know it all!!!) I’d love to use this short trip to start preparing my Christmas gifts! Last year in Lisbon, my suitcase wasn’t big enough, so this year I want to make up for it! I’m looking for good places for a leather jacket, shoes, and of course, cork items! Thanks so much for your help! Have a great day

Hi there! To start, September is really ideal for visiting Porto!

For those who want to avoid tourist traps, it's best to steer clear of the Ribeira district, which runs along the Douro with the famous Luís I Bridge. The view is incredible, and you should take a walk there... before 10 AM! After that, tourists flood in, and the area loses its charm. You won’t see any Portuguese people there, either.

For shopping, there’s of course Rua Santa Catarina, full of international brands but also local products. Check out the Bolhão Market, just a stone’s throw away, which has just been restored. You can grab a drink and some tapas (*petiscos* in Portuguese) there. Then, for leather goods and cork products, you’ll find great *Made In Portugal* shops along Rua das Flores. A little favorite of mine is the Typographia boutique, which offers *made in Porto* T-shirts at very affordable prices and excellent quality. Perfect for treating yourself (or someone else) to a unique gift that’s truly made by locals.

For transportation, the metro and buses work really well, but the city center can easily be explored entirely on foot (depending on where you’re staying).
