Hotel in Porto's port area
Mamigigi · 2019-10-22
Hello,
This spring, my husband and I would like to visit Porto.
Does anyone know of a nice hotel in Porto's port area or very close to it, please?
Thanks in advance for your tips or info.
Best regards,
Mamigigi

Hi there,
If you don’t give us more details, we won’t be able to help you out.
Porto’s port is 8 km away (LEIXOES).

Good evening,
Thanks for trying to help me out.
I'm looking for a hotel located in Porto's port (you tell me Leixões, I'm not familiar with it), preferably a nice and typical Portuguese hotel, or a hotel-restaurant.
From what I understand, Leixões is the name of Porto's port? And 8 km is the distance from the port to Porto's city center?
Sorry, not being familiar, I can only make assumptions...
Have a good evening.
Best regards

Hi there,
I’m revisiting this topic to be more precise. When you’re not familiar with the area, it’s easy to mix up two things:
- first, the port itself, which is over near Matosinhos,
- and second, Ribeira, the historic port in the city center.
To be exact, "Porto" means "port" in Portuguese, which is where the confusion comes from.
The port in use today is indeed toward Matosinhos, but it’s an industrial port with cargo ships and containers. I don’t think that’s what most people are looking for when planning a stay.
On the other hand, Matosinhos does have some beautiful beaches where you can relax or watch the sunset over the ocean.
However, the historic port area is actually the heart of Porto—specifically the Ribeira district, where you’ll find plenty of hotels and rentals. It’s the oldest part of the city, with its narrow, winding streets and staircases, and lots of traditional restaurants.
Hope that clears things up! !
