Title error on my flight ticket to Bangkok

Good evening, I’m leaving next Tuesday, January 14, 2020, with Thai Airways for Bangkok, and I just noticed that my husband’s flight ticket was marked as "Mms" (Mrs.) instead of "Monsieur" (Mr.). I called the airline, and they told me I have to pay at least 50 € (okay, I guess that’s manageable), but they also said I have to pay the difference between the ticket price at the time of purchase (April 2019) and today’s price—huge difference. Has anyone else had this issue, and more importantly, can anyone tell me if there’s a risk in showing up for check-in? The first and last names are correct. Thanks for letting me know as soon as possible because I’m starting to panic a little.

To me, this is the kind of minor error that gets fixed manually at the baggage check-in counter. It happens to others who didn’t even notice.

The correct first and last names are two details that leave no doubt about the passenger’s identity.

Thanks a lot—but my concern is that we have a friend this happened to, and he had to pay. It all depends on the person at check-in, I think—so we’re taking a risk. Anyway, thanks for your reply

Same airline? How much did he have to pay and when—at the physical check-in counter at the airport?

Personally, I wouldn’t have said anything. But now that you’ve reported it to the airline, I’m not sure how it’ll play out.

hello, Tatara's right—you gotta play dumb. Often that works because the other person doesn’t feel like explaining for ages. And then they usually don’t bother the tourist because they want to see them come back.

Thanks a lot for your advice—it’s exactly what I’m going to do! In fact, I contacted a friend today who runs a travel agency, and she told me the same thing. So I’ll keep my fingers crossed—but definitely won’t contact the reservations office, because they’ll totally rip you off. She checked for me, and it’d be an extra 680 € on top of the already expensive ticket just for the "title"!!! That’s outrageous.

Airlines are just looking for ways to make more money.

in this case I show my name and point at myself and play the innocent guy, all confident besides, it’s not a lie and then I thought, imagine the guy after he books, he goes through his procedure and becomes a woman they’re not gonna stop him from boarding the plane just because it’s no longer "Mr." but now "Ms." after all, it’s the same person (well, almost) 😎

Another thing: if the person who made the mistake claims they can’t do anything about it, that’s good to know for other travelers—never book through them.

I'm surprised Booking can't do anything for you. Logically, they should be able to since they issue the ticket for an extra fee. The golden rule, repeated here and elsewhere many times: never buy flight tickets from travel agencies or flight comparison sites. If there's a problem, it's guaranteed to be a nightmare. Always buy directly from the airline. I've seen this in cases similar to yours or at the start of COVID, when Thailand closed its borders, compared to travelers who bought their tickets directly from the airline. I can only hope this issue gets resolved quickly and with minimal cost.

So, how did it go? There was an article in Le Figaro a few days ago. It seems that many travelers were forced to buy another ticket or got the correction with a significant surcharge. Reader comments are clear: there’s abuse, and consumers aren’t being respected.
