This isn’t meant to be a full-on travel journal—just a little springtime dip into the Moroccan coast (and maybe a bit more if we hit it off). For our 3rd trip to this country, we set off for 8 days in early June 2025, confident we’d be greeted by non-stop sunshine...
In these post-COVID years, South Africa has drawn me back again... The veterans on the forum might say I’m a bit obsessed (I’ve now made over twenty trips to the country, including two to Namibia)...
I’m kicking off my first travel journal since VF reopened!
This will mostly be to share my impressions and a few photos, with a bit of a delay, but I’m starting this journal while I’m still here.

I was able to organize this trip to one of the most expensive countries in the world thanks to the home-exchange principle. Not necessarily a direct swap, but through a points system, which is more flexible for choosing where you want to go without it having to be a reciprocal exchange.

In this story, written by Richard and illustrated by me, we’ll take you through the journey of four friends: Catherine, Richard, Nathalie, and Bruno. A reinvented but overall successful trip, filled with discoveries and surprises, the scents of spices and frangipane flowers, food that was (way too) spicy, sunsets, and... one major hassle.

So I’m gonna try to pick up posting travel journals again, starting with destinations where there aren’t many recent stories. I’ll kick things off with our 2-week trip exploring the western part of Cuba.
Our itinerary, covered in a 1954 classic American car with our driver Yoan, who spoke excellent French.
I was a little worried that this new visit to Uncle Sam’s country wouldn’t be as "wow" as the others, but we still discovered some extraordinary places.
For those who don’t know us, we’re a couple in our seventies who speak very little English, but that didn’t stop us from fully enjoying our stay.
For this 6th road trip across the USA, we spent 21 nights there and covered 4,160 km by car and nearly 160 km on foot in a loop starting from Phoenix.
So, on these rainy days, I’m starting to write a little travel journal about the Drakensberg. The Dragon Mountains, uKhahlamba in Zulu and Maluti in Sotho or Tswana...

The Cyclades attract a lot (a LOT) of people in the summer, and it’s not always clear how to visit them. For our first family trip to the Cyclades, we followed an itinerary that seems great for exploring...
Otherwise, what’s the deal with the American West in February?... A gamble. Let’s just say it’s Russian roulette since we’re not arriving during peak weather season. That’s why we pushed our transportation and accommodation to hook up and give birth to a little camper van—so we can stay ultra-flexible against any weather whims. We’ll be roaming around in Kara the van with our only motto: "Follow the sun!"
This journal recounts a trip to Rajasthan that’s already over a year old and that I’m only now getting around to writing up. The summer of 2024 marked my return to India—my tenth trip—after six long years away since my last solo wanderings in Tamil Nadu back in 2018 (the journal for which is published on this site).

Big lovers of India, where we’ve been six times, my co-traveler husband and I decided to explore Rajasthan this time around.
And if we waited so long to come here, it’s because we were dreading the tourist crowds in this state. But thanks to the timing (late March to early April 2024, which is starting to get really hot) and Aleph’s great tips, we were very, very far from mass tourism.
As mentioned in the title, a travel journal focused on St. Lucia and iSimangaliso ("this place is miraculous" = Zulu translation) over various stays spanning about twenty years.

As mentioned in the title, this will be a trip around Tuscany in parts that aren’t the region’s most visited.
No Florence-Siena-Pisa trilogy, no San Gimignano; there’ll be a quick stop in Siena, but without visiting the most famous sites. This choice, plus traveling in September, should help avoid overtourism.

Dans quelques mois, cela fera déjà trois ans que nous avons annoncé la fermeture temporaire du forum aux nouveaux messages. Trois ans, ouf! Ce ne fut pas une période facile pour diverses raisons, mais, heureusement, nous avons pu maintenir VoyageForum en ligne en payant une bonne partie de son hébergement (serveurs et systèmes coûtant quelques milliers d'euros par mois) avec les 40 200 euros reçus en dons. Un grand merci encore une fois à tous ceux qui ont contribué à cette collecte de fonds de fonds destinée à sauver VoyageForum!
Ces jours-ci, la situation financière de VoyageForum reste délicate, mais il y a de l'espoir à l'horizon...! 🙂
Depuis près d'un an, nous avons travaillé très dur à créer une nouvelle version du site qui contient plusieurs améliorations: une meilleure navigation sur les appareils mobiles, une version foncée du site pour réduire la fatigue oculaire (l'icône en haut à droite des pages permet de l'activer ou de la désactiver), une mise en page qui met davantage en avant les photos et les guides VF et surtout, comme amélioration majeure, un nouveau système de publicité basé sur un concept novateur et très performant. La mise en ligne de ce nouveau système de publicité est notre ultime tentative pour redresser les finances de VoyageForum. Si ce système est bien reçu par les annonceurs dans les mois à venir, nous pourrons réembaucher du personnel (programmeurs, modérateurs, etc.) et réouvrir le forum aux contributions des membres! 🙂
Nous explorons également des solutions plus ambitieuses pour améliorer la santé financière du site. Par exemple, en utilisant la technologie et le code derrière VoyageForum, nous pourrions créer différents forums sur d'autres thématiques que le voyage. Ces forums pourraient être regroupés en un seul méga site/forum (dont le voyage serait l'un des sujets traités) ou sur différents sites distincts. Nous envisageons aussi de transformer notre nouveau système de publicité en une régie publicitaire pour diffuser les annonces de nos annonceurs sur des sites partenaires qui ne seraient pas nécessairement en lien avec le voyage. L'objectif ici est avant tout de diversifier nos sources de revenus ainsi que les marchés cibles afin d'être plus résilients si le marché du voyage venait à être perturbé de nouveau. Cependant, toutes ces idées nécessitent que nous disposions d'abord d'une source de revenus fiable, d'où le développement et la mise en ligne de notre nouveau système de publicité.
Une autre solution pour donner une seconde vie au site serait de nous associer à une entreprise dans le domaine du voyage et/ou de l'internet qui souhaiterait investir dans VoyageForum ou même l'acquérir. Nous avons eu des discussions dans ce sens avec quelques partenaires potentiels ces dernières années, mais il n'y a pas eu d'aboutissement concret jusqu'à maintenant. Si vous œuvrez dans le domaine du voyage et/ou de l'internet et que vous seriez intéressé à investir dans nos projets, nous vous invitons à nous contacter via la page «Contacts».
Encore une fois, nous sommes profondément désolés pour cette longue fermeture du forum. Cette situation exceptionnelle était vraiment hors de notre contrôle. Quebecers: absolutely wonderful people when it comes to welcoming tourists—especially French ones—and how they treat us. You can ask them for advice at the supermarket, for info here and there, and even distant cousins are super helpful!
So, I’m diving into the short story of our all-too-brief trip to Iceland at the end of April 2024. And even if it’s not the done thing, I’m gonna spoil it and start with the conclusion: it was amazing!!!
