Hello,
We’ve just returned from our cruise on the Smeralda. There were four of us in balcony cabin 17001—a nice cabin with a large balcony and a very practical bathroom, though storage was a bit tight for four (small wardrobe and small shelf).
Our assigned restaurant, El Meneghino, served good and hearty meals.
The buffet was fine—since it’s a large ship, we always found free tables at different times, whether for breakfast or lunch. The food was good but not very varied.
Be sure to check the daily program for meal times, as they change every day with different options: either buffet, fixed-menu restaurant, or both.
The pools and jacuzzis were very small and crowded, and despite the nice weather that week, we never saw the aquapark open.
There are plenty of bars where you can easily find a spot to enjoy a drink in peace or with music.
The theater was very small and had unusual hours. Over the week, we only managed to see two shows live—the rest were on TV in the cabin.
We did two Costa excursions: one in Rome with the express train, which was very pleasant, and the other in Pisa, which was well-organized for independent exploration.
Overall, we were quite satisfied with our trip, but we still prefer MSC. Have a nice Sunday.

Hi,
We’d like to rent a small car (something like a Peugeot 208) when we arrive at Catania Airport.
... and we’d like to return it in Milazzo on a Sunday.
Could you recommend any rental companies for this kind of one-way rental—affordable and open on Sundays in Milazzo? Thanks in advance! Seb

Hi there, we’re planning a Munich to Venice bike trip at the end of June 2026. Getting back from Venice to Toulouse by train with 4 bikes isn’t straightforward. What return options have others who’ve done this trip chosen? Any tips or great deals would be much appreciated. Thanks a bunch! !
Quick recap of a getaway to Sicily (June 3–13, 2022).
Day 1: Transavia flight to Palermo from Lyon Day 2: Zingaro Reserve (14 km coastal trail round-trip, about 4 hours of hiking + coves) / Evening in Scopello Day 3: Segesta + Erice via cable car + evening in Trapani (free parking at Piazza Vit. Emmanuele) Day 3: Bike day in Favignana (Cala Rosa, Cala Azzurra) Day 4: Marsala (quick stop at the salt flats), Selinunte, and sleepover in Agrigento Day 5: Day in Agrigento: Valley of the Temples, Temple of Concordia, Temple of Hercules, Temple of Juno, Temple of Castor and Pollux Day 6: Villa Romana del Casale and Cefalù in the late afternoon Day 7: Relaxing beach day in Cefalù Day 8: Mosaics in Monreale Cathedral, then Palermo Day 9: Palermo Day 10: Return to Lyon
8 days on the ground covering 650 km, scorching heat all week (37°C in Zingaro), and a ridiculously expensive car rental (Sicily by Car).
Some truly great accommodations:
- Tre Giummare in Scopello (despite the AC breaking down the night before) - Laurus Apartments in Trapani (perfect for the Favignana ferry) - Terrazze di Montelusa in Agrigento (worth seeing—very unique!) - Rurale, Via Lancenia 22 in Cefalù (for the pool view!) - Il Giardino di Ballarò in Palermo (charming and right in the heart of the city)
Our top picks:
- Favignana (by far the highlight of the trip) - The temples in Agrigento - Palermo - The food here is amazing
No real disappointments, but Erice didn’t quite live up to expectations, and we were frustrated by the car rental prices.
Side note: make sure to specify that your card is a *credit* card (not debit). Ours was a deferred debit card, and our bank had the sense to label it "credit card"—otherwise, you’d be on the hook for an extra 200 €... those Southern Italians!

Hi there,
I’m planning a trip for early July, departing from and returning to Cagliari. I had originally planned to visit these two areas:
1 - Chia/Teulada/Iglesias
2 - Sinis Peninsula (Tharros/Cabras) and Bosa
But after some thought, I’m wondering if the Gulf of Orosei (Cala Gonone/boat excursions) might be nicer than Chia/Teulada/Iglesias. I’d love to hear advice from travelers who’ve visited these regions of Sardinia.
We’re traveling as a family with two teens. Given the time of year, I don’t think we’ll do much hiking. We’re not big fans of crowded places.
Thanks! Marianne

on the way to the Dolomites
We’re back from our 6-day bike trip between Innsbruck and Venice from June 30 to July 6, 2019, on the well-marked Munich-Venice route. Our overall impressions: the route is really beautiful, especially for us during the first three stages: Gries am Brenner (AT) to Mühlbach or Rio di Pusteria (IT) – towns with dual names – Rio di Pusteria to Toblach or Dobbiaco – a town we really loved – and Dobbiaco to Pieve di Cadore.
The passage through the Dolomites on a path that’s half paved, half white gravel road is absolutely stunning, even if it’s quite a climb.😊
We chose accommodations in hostels, and luckily so, since there weren’t many campsites along the way. There were a few cyclists, but not too many. We had great weather, even very hot on the last stage from Treviso to Mestre. The arrival in Mestre isn’t very well signposted – several directions overlap and don’t lead you straight to Mestre. Once you find the right route, though, it’s pretty easy. We had a paper guide and GPS, which helped a lot. If you need info on the route, we can chat about it! Happy travels
Hello,
We’re heading to Rome from 21/09, arriving in the early afternoon, and returning on 28/09, leaving in the morning. We’ve already booked our flight tickets and our accommodation in the city center: Via Ezio.
I’d love to get your feedback on our itinerary and if there are any visits we should book right now:
Monday 21 afternoon:
Largo di Torre Argentina: a sacred spot for cats.
Tuesday 22:
The Vatican: Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel in the morning. Afternoon: St. Peter’s Basilica, the dome, and if possible, the necropolis.
Wednesday 23:
Morning: Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. Afternoon: Trastevere neighborhood and the Monumento a Garibaldi.
Thursday 24:
Piazza Navona, Church of St. Louis of the French, the Pantheon, Campo de’ Fiori, Piazza Venezia, Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore, Trevi Fountain.
Friday 25:
Villa Borghese, Piazza del Popolo, Spanish Steps, Quirinale, Piazza della Repubblica, and Santa Maria degli Angeli.
Saturday 26:
Aventine and Testaccio neighborhoods, the Capuchin Crypt.
Sunday 27:
Ostia.
Monday 28:
Departure.
Are any days too packed, or should we add more visits?
Thanks for your input and help!
Cheers!

Two nature enthusiasts in their sixties are planning a naturalist stay in Asturias: hikes, wildlife observation (Cantabrian brown bear), local architecture, and a return trip through the plains of Villafafila (lagoons and birds). We have observation equipment and knowledge of the area. Accommodation will be in a rural hotel. Departure planned for May 4th from southern France, returning on the 13th by comfortable car that can carry 1 or 2 additional companions.
Hi,
We’re leaving at the end of March for a cruise on the MSC Sinfonia. We’ll be departing from Athens, then Izmir, Istanbul, Corfu, Bari, and back to Athens.
Would anyone have any info on the Sinfonia, and especially about the excursions in Corfu and Bari? Can we explore the city on foot, or are there MSC shuttles available?
Thanks for any tips you can share!

Hi there,
This summer, we’ve decided to do a 3-week road trip starting from Nice and heading down to Ksamil in Albania.
We’re leaving from Nice, and our route is already pretty much set: Nice - Verona (Italy) - Rijeka (Croatia) - Zadar - Split - Budva (Montenegro) - Shkodër (Albania) - Ksamil, then back through Italy via Bari.
The itinerary is packed! 🙂
Do you have any suggestions for things to see—visits, beaches, viewpoints, villages, or excursions—to make the most of our journey?
Thanks everyone!

Hi there,
A little week or rather ten days—second week of June—in Sardinia sound good to you? Let me know if you're interested. Departing from Sète with Corsica Ferry and returning the same way.
We’ll be moving around, spending a max of 2 days in any one town. If you love walking, perfect.
See you soon!
Thanks
Hello there, pedal-powered Young Boys!
Claudio (still from Faverges)
dreaming about a cycling getaway in Italy from Faverges (train all the way to Turin)
from Turin down to Venice along the Po River and back via the Padana (Alta Italia da attraversare – Northern Italy to cross)
The tricky part is getting from Chioggia to Venice.
I read it’s possible by hopping on a boat from island to island,
but it sounds a bit stressful.
Has anyone already tackled this route?
Thanks, and cheers to all! http://cbandiera.free.fr/parcours/Padania/

Hi,
We're going on a family cruise (9 people) in June aboard the MSC Armonia departing from Venice. For the transfer from Venice Marco Polo Airport to the cruise terminal, I'm thinking of booking a minibus with Suntransfers for 363 € round trip. Do you think that's a good idea? A reliable company? If you have any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks so much for your help.
Hello,
I'm considering doing the "Ruta de la Plata" next September.
The plan would be to fly into Madrid, head up to León via Segovia and Valladolid, then down to Huelva before returning to Madrid for the flight back.
We're in our seventies and limit ourselves to easy, short walks. For accommodations, well-maintained hotels or guesthouses would suit us, and we'd also like to try 2 or 3 paradores.
How many days do you think we should allow for this trip?
A round-trip flight to Madrid seems the most practical. We've already explored Andalusia but might consider stopping in Seville or Córdoba again.
Thanks to anyone who can advise us on the timing, itinerary, or must-see spots...
I'm looking for a fellow biker to join me for part of a motorcycle road trip from the Jura to the Basque Country, then northern Spain, down to southern Portugal, and back through central Spain. I want to avoid big cities as much as possible and stick to small roads.
I'm retired, so I've got all the time in the world—the length of the trip isn't set and doesn't matter. Ideally, it’d be another retiree like me so we can take it easy—no rush. Planned for the second half of April and May 2026. Hope to see you soon!

Hi there. Who’s setting off on a 36-day cruise on the Costa Smeralda from Marseille on November 16, 2024?

Hi everyone! So nice to be back on our forum!
We’re thinking of taking a little trip to Sicily next month with our camper van. We’d leave from our place in Auvergne, then take a ferry from Genoa to Palermo, and on the way back, we’d follow the Tyrrhenian coast up to Naples. After that, we’d head straight back to Auvergne. We’ve never been to Sicily, Naples, or Pompeii before. Since we couldn’t plan this trip earlier in the year, we’re a bit worried about the weather—especially the temperature and rainfall in Sicily. hi everyone,
we're going on a cruise soon—could you tell me what the best way to get from the port to Olbia and Livorno city is, please? Thanks.
Hi there,
We had planned a trip to Sicily in August, and due to the volcanic eruption of Mount Etna, my flight was canceled. The airline is refunding the outbound flight, but none of the non-refundable expenses: accommodation booked through Booking, rental car, and the return flight aren’t covered. My SUPER Gold card doesn’t work in this specific case! :( If anyone has been in this situation, could you let me know if you were able to get any recourse and, if so, how?
Thanks in advance
Hi,
We’ll be visiting Barcelona for the first time on our upcoming cruise.
I was wondering if it’s better to book a taxi in advance to get from the train station to the cruise terminal, since there’ll be four of us. Are there enough taxis around that we won’t have to wait too long?
For the return trip, same question—are there enough taxis, since we have a flight to catch? Though I doubt we’ll know in advance which terminal we’ll dock at.
I came across this site below—has anyone heard of it?

Hi everyone,
We're heading to Genoa and the Cinque Terre in mid-October for a full week. We're planning to spend two and a half days—three nights—in the Cinque Terre. The idea is to hike between the villages and use the train (or boat) for the trip out (or back). We're thinking of staying overnight, and I was wondering which village to prioritize.
Thanks in advance for your tips!

Hi everyone,
I’d love to get your thoughts on the following itinerary (late May). I like to take my time in ruins and museums, and beaches don’t interest me. I’ll be staying in hostels and using public transport. Do you see any major omissions or things that aren’t worth it? Thanks!

Day 6: Trip to SYRACUSE, visit Ortigia Day 7: Ortigia Day 8: NOTO (day trip) (or another Baroque town?) Day 9: Syracuse Archaeological Park + more time in Ortigia (or leave for Enna?)

Hi everyone,
I’m sharing my draft itinerary with you because I just booked our flight tickets, and I feel like it’s quite late in the season. So, I’d like to be sure about my stops before reserving the hotels. I’ll be traveling alone with my two adult children. We want to prioritize outdoor walks, avoid too many indoor visits (both for budget and preference), and not spend too much time on the road.
D1: Arrival at 9 AM in Malaga, day in Malaga and overnight stay D2: Head straight to Nerja (1-hour drive) and spend the night there D3: Head straight to Granada (1.5-hour drive), spend the day and night there D4: Granada. Visit the Alhambra (Nasrid Palaces tour at 5 PM) and spend the night D5: Head to Ronda (2.5-hour drive) and spend the night D6: White Villages and overnight in Ronda D7: Head straight to the Costa del Sol (e.g., Estepona), spend the day and night there D8: Return to Malaga to catch our flight
There you go! This itinerary takes into account that we’d like to do a circuit starting from Seville in a few years. That said, it’d be a shame to miss something doable from Malaga.
Questions: Since the Alhambra visit is only at 5 PM, and we’d already have the day to explore Granada, would arriving the day before be a mistake? Or should we skip this day and dedicate it elsewhere (Costa del Sol? Head toward Tabernas?)? The old town appeals to me, but maybe the Sacromonte neighborhood isn’t essential... Same question for Ronda: should we dedicate a full day to it, or combine Ronda and the White Villages in one day? Note that we love wandering around villages outside, so that might answer my question! :)
Final question: Is it better to rent the car at Malaga Airport or in the city? If we rent at the airport, we’d need a hotel with parking, which doesn’t seem easy. Or stay outside the city and park for free near the center if possible? I’ve read comments about taking a taxi to Malaga and then picking up the rental car at the airport the next morning. The taxi would really need to be affordable...
Thanks so much for your feedback and suggestions for visits during this little circuit. Have a great day, everyone! Christine

Hi everyone!
We’re so excited to be heading to Italy for the first time this April with our two kids for a week. We’ve booked our round-trip flight, and we’ll be arriving and departing from Pisa.
Our rough plan so far includes visiting Pisa, taking the train to Florence, and exploring the Cinque Terre. Last night, a friend also suggested adding Siena to the list.
Our kids are 12 and 9 and are used to walking, but we’re not looking to rush around too much. We’d love any advice, especially about accommodation. Should we stay in Pisa and take day trips by train, or split our nights between a couple of different places?
We’re just starting our research, so any tips would be amazing! 😉
Thanks in advance!
Hi everyone,
how do I get from TENERIFE SOUTH Airport to the port of TENERIFE???
Thanks for your reply
I want to do sections of the Collioure-Cadaqués trail. I plan to stay in Collioure first to hike the paths on the French side using the bus. Speaking of which, I’m wondering if it’ll be easy to find a seat on the buses at the end of April, beginning of May.
After that, I’ll head to Figueres to do sections of the trail on the Spanish side. I’m worried the buses might not be too crowded at the end of April.
Here’s what I’m interested in: Llanca - Port de la Selva: Figueres - Llanca by train in the morning and Port de la Selva - Figueres on the way back Port de la Selva - Cadaqués: Figueres - Port de la Selva in the morning and Cadaqués - Figueres on the return trip
I’d also like to go to Cadaqués from Figueres as a day trip. I’m concerned about how busy this route might be at the end of April.
I’m wondering if I need to get tickets in advance and where to buy them.

Hi there,
I’m starting a little European road trip where I want to explore the capitals of our continent. I’m currently in Rome, and my next destination is Lisbon!
If you’ve got any restaurant, bar, or place recommendations, I’d love to hear them!
Thanks in advance! 😊

Hello,
I’m planning a trip for about ten people—seniors—to Friuli Venezia Giulia in September 2026.
Day 1 – We’ll likely arrive in Treviso and head first to UDINE for two nights. Day 2 – Morning in Udine, then an afternoon visit to Cividale del Friuli. Travel by local train. Day 3 – We’ll leave for a quick visit to Gorizia before heading to TRIESTE for one night. Day 4 – Visit Trieste and Miramare. At the end of the day, take the train to Cervignano, then a local bus to Grado. Stay in Grado for three nights. Day 5 – Explore central Grado and take a boat tour to the island of Barbana. Day 6 – Relaxation day in Grado (as requested by the participants). Day 7 – Visit Aquileia and possibly Palmanova.
Day 8 – Return to the airport or maybe a quick detour to Venice. For the three days in Grado and the surrounding area, I was thinking of hiring a small bus with a driver. It seems like it’d be simpler—what do you think? Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for your feedback! MADAPOLAM

Hi, I’m planning a bike trip in Italy starting from Pisa to Cinque Terre and I’m looking for a company to transport two suitcases. The suitcases are picked up in the morning at our hotel and dropped off at the next hotel along our route. I’m looking for something like *La Malle Postale* in France, which some people use on the Camino de Santiago. Thanks for your feedback!
