Hi there,
We’d like to take our bikes to Sicily in early April for Easter, then cycle back home via Puglia to the Lyon area.
Has anyone got any tips?
1: How to get there? Train or ferry?
2: Camping or other options in big cities? Is it true that campsites are really expensive?
3: Recommended route
We’re open to all suggestions.
Thanks, and happy holidays!

Hi there,
Is there a bike route that crosses Italy to catch the boat to Sicily?
If so, where does it start and where does it end?
Hi there, we’re planning a Munich to Venice bike trip at the end of June 2026. Getting back from Venice to Toulouse by train with 4 bikes isn’t straightforward. What return options have others who’ve done this trip chosen? Any tips or great deals would be much appreciated. Thanks a bunch! !
Hi there,
I’ll be traveling to Tuscany with my family (my wife and two kids, aged 6 and 8) from April 26 to May 5. Here’s a rough draft of our potential itinerary—I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions so I can tweak and improve it. We haven’t finalized our accommodations yet, but they’ll likely be near Florence (2 nights), Lucca (2 nights), Monteriggioni (2 nights), Pienza, Montalcino, and Greve in Chianti.
- April 26: o Arrival in Florence around 12:00 PM - April 27: o Florence - April 28: o Florence – Pistoia – Lucca - April 29: o Lucca – Pisa – Lucca - April 30: o Lucca – Volterra – San Gimignano – Monteriggioni - May 1: o Monteriggioni – Siena – Monteriggioni - May 2: o Monteriggioni – Abbey of Santa Maria di Monte Oliveto – Baccoleno – Castelmuzio – Chapel of Madonna di Vitaleta (San Quirico d’Orcia) – Pienza - May 3: o Pienza – Montepulciano – Montichiello – Abbey of Sant’Antimo – Bagno Vignoni Thermal Baths – Montalcino - May 4: o Montalcino – Castellina in Chianti – Radda in Chianti – Badia a Coltibuono – Volpaia – Montefioralle – Greve in Chianti - May 5: o Greve in Chianti – Florence airport
Thanks for any insights! 😉

I'd love some destination suggestions for a road trip from Nice to Livorno by car, including the routes, tolls to cross, distance, and estimated travel time. We're planning a 5-day trip, with 2 nights near Nice, 1 night along the way, and finally 2 nights in Livorno. There are 4 of us in a rental car, and we'd like to stay in either an apartment, a mobile home near the sea, or a campsite. Our budget isn't too extravagant!!!! We want to visit the Promenade des Anglais, and I've heard Menton is really interesting. Once we reach Livorno, we'll take the ferry to Corsica for 12 days with the same rental car. We're planning to leave the last week of May and the first two weeks of June 2026, so around 17-18 days total.
Thanks
Who among you has explored northern Italy along the Mediterranean, in Liguria?
I’m dreaming of cycling there from Nice, crossing through villages like Menton, Ventimiglia, Dolceacqua, Apricale, Monte Ceppo, Triora, Ponte di Nava, Ormea, Garessio, Ceva, Mondovì, and Cuneo.
Beyond that, it’s the route toward Queyras in France via the Col dell’Agnello, on the slopes of Monte Viso.
A few questions for those who know the area: Is it interesting by bike? Is the road surface decent? Is car traffic low, or at least manageable?
We had this plan back in 2009 as part of a Nice-Rome crossing, but we ended up doing it differently. I might get to revisit it this summer (solo this time, not on a tandem like we usually do).
Looking forward to your thoughts and comments!

Hi everyone,
Since I had a fantastic week in Puglia, and it's such a nearby and easily accessible destination from France,
I invite you to check out the article I wrote about it on my blog: www.philippebasset.com/puglia.html
I highly recommend visiting this coastal region along the Adriatic Sea for so many reasons: diverse landscapes, refined and varied cuisine, a very pleasant climate, a discreet and welcoming population, no mafia (it’s sad to say, but many Italian cities are plagued by this scourge, which brings insecurity, filth, and extortion...), and apart from July-August, there’s no risk of mass tourism!
*Dolce vita* guaranteed!
I’m happy to help if you’d like tips or recommendations :)

And plenty more photos to discover—hopefully, it’ll make you want to book a flight to Bari!

Hi there,
I’m starting this thread to ask for your advice on a tricky situation I recently ran into. Maybe you’ve been through something similar?
After booking my tickets for this summer, I realized I never received an email, payment confirmation, or reservation number (well, the number did appear on the page after payment, but I didn’t write it down, assuming I’d get it in the confirmation email that usually arrives right after). Even though I was charged, I have no other proof of purchase since I don’t have anything to back it up...
At the time, I wasn’t too worried—email delays had happened to me before. Worst case, I’d get it an hour later.
Except after a full day, I still hadn’t received anything, and the reservation still doesn’t show up in my personal account on the airline’s website.
What should I do?
I contacted support via message: still no reply (and they guarantee a response within two hours). I called them, but no one picked up (and on top of that, I was charged 7.5 € for 15 minutes on hold). Now I’m starting to lose my patience...
Has this ever happened to you?
Thanks in advance,

Hi there,
We’re heading to Puglia from July 30 to August 31, 2020. I’ve booked a rental with a pool in Locorontondo.
But the more I read guides and forums, the more I regret booking the flight to Bari. I can still cancel the other reservations, but I’d face penalties for the flight.
It’s packed, avoid August at all costs—traffic jams, stifling heat, price hikes… I’m really having second thoughts. Our goal isn’t necessarily to hit the beach. I’m thinking we’ll get up early to go where we want and head back during the hottest part of the day.
Is it *that* bad? Thanks for sharing your experiences.

We’re wrapping up our Sardinia tour by camper van. We stayed for 5 weeks, covered 2,150 km on this island, and will leave with mixed feelings!!
While the island is beautiful—especially for those who love beaches and all kinds of water sports—it’s also appealing for history buffs and archaeology enthusiasts. The mountains, scenic roads, and small villages are really lovely too.
That said, driving here can be pretty hazardous. Locals don’t respect speed limits or road rules, they roll through stops, zoom out of side streets, and often overtake without proper visibility. On top of that, the quality of roads and highways is really disappointing!! And service areas, whether paid or free, are few and far between and often poorly maintained.
One last thing: we’d heard Sardinians were welcoming... I don’t know if it’s because they’ve "endured" waves of tourists from all over during the summer months, but unfortunately, we didn’t find that to be true. Most seemed rather gloomy or even unwelcoming, with just a few exceptions saving Sardinia’s reputation!!
It’s a real shame for an island with so much potential. I think a serious review of how tourism is managed would be worth considering. That aside, we did notice some efforts and goodwill that were nice to see.
My daughter and I are planning to visit Puglia in September.
We won’t have a car.
We’re thinking of staying in Bari for a few days, then exploring the surrounding area before heading to Lecce and finishing in Matera.
Do you have any recommendations for hotels or Airbnbs?
Hello fellow travelers!
I'm passionate about road trips and city breaks, always ready to explore a new destination, whether it's through vast landscapes or the heart of historic cities.
I created the blog Road and City Trip to share my discoveries (Italy, United States, Canada, New Zealand, etc.), my favorite spots (and sometimes my mishaps!), all with my personal touch and no filter. With friends or family, every trip is a new adventure I love to recount.
Always up for exchanging great tips, itineraries, and practical advice—so don’t hesitate to reach out! !

Hi,
We’d love to do a river cruise in Italy. We’ve never been on a cruise before and we’d like to combine a river cruise with excursions. Has anyone done this before? If so, any info or suggestions would be really helpful. Which ship and itinerary would be best?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi everyone,
With summer just around the corner, I’m looking for ideas for organized bike trips in France or Italy. I’m pretty used to traveling independently, but this time I’d like to try something more structured—either in a small group or with minimal logistics (accommodations booked, luggage transport, etc.).
I’m open to different difficulty levels, as long as the setting is pleasant (countryside, seaside, well-known routes, or even a bit more off-the-beaten-path). If you’ve already tried this kind of trip or have good recommendations for agencies or providers, I’d love to hear them!
Thanks in advance for your tips! 🚴♂️☀️

Hello, We’re heading to Italy for five weeks next spring. It’ll be our first trip there. We’d love to see some must-see spots and beautiful countryside regions. Our main transport will be trains, and sometimes buses to reach smaller villages. We’re less interested in the mountains and lakes in the north. We’ll try to stay 4–5 days in some places and explore the surrounding area by train or bus. Any suggestions for planning our trip? Itineraries and must-sees! Thanks
Hello everyone,
So happy to be back on this Forum!
We’re heading off on another cruise—our 7th—after a 5-year break...
We’ll be leaving from Venice on April 26th with stops in Kotor, Mykonos, Santorini, and Ancona.
Could you help me plan the stops by sharing tips, tricks, and advice?
For those who already know me, you know we prefer not to take the cruise line’s excursions but instead organize everything ourselves.
Thanks in advance to everyone, and looking forward to chatting with you all!
