Lille to Nordkapp by bike: tips on my route
by Elgar · 2026-01-08 · 0 replies
Hi there, What a great project—I really admire it! Just a heads-up: there’s no train all the way to Nordkapp. The northernmost point you can reach by train is Narvik, going through Sweden. If you stick to Norway, it’s Bodø. The rest of the way is by bus. Happy planning!
A Scandinavian Tour - Summer 2025

Thanks for this really enjoyable travel journal. Just like you, I really loved visiting the Fram in Oslo. That was back in 2003, but I still have great memories of it. Honestly, the influx of tourists in places where these cruise ship giants dock is pretty overwhelming. Your "parking" adventure reminds me of the same thing that happened to us this June in Kristiansand—our Belgian license plate wasn’t recognized. Since there were no barriers in the parking lot, we just drove out without paying! Your itinerary is super nice and brings back some great memories for me. Can’t wait to read the rest, Vivien
Is a vehicle registration document required when boarding in Denmark?
by Elgar · 2025-07-15 · 1 reply
As far as I'm concerned, I crossed into Germany from Belgium via the E42 highway on June 9th. No checks at all. The only sign I was in a different country was how fast some drivers were going...
Is vehicle registration required when boarding in Denmark?
by Elgar · 2025-07-13 · 2 replies
Hi, I’m back from a 3-week "Nordic" trip (June 9–29, 4,375 km): Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, and back to Belgium. The only customs check was when leaving the Puttgarden–Rødby ferry. The vehicle in front of us, registered in Switzerland, went through without any issues, and for us, they just asked where we were headed—no document requests (for us or the car). After 2 minutes, everything was fine. Never saw another check after that, just a few speed cameras.😉 Currently, after 15 days, still no toll charges from Norway.

Happy travels,

Vivien

In addition to Sissi57’s very detailed comment, I’ve never booked a *hytter* in Norwegian campgrounds except once, at Vinje, with no issues at all.

Just a little update on November 1st, 2024!

Back in 2003, we traveled through Norway all the way to the Lofoten Islands, and four years later in 2007, we set off again to explore Finland and Norway in Lapland.

In 2018, we revisited Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.

I hope you get the chance to discover these wonderful Nordic countries one day. Feel free to ask me any questions.

15-Day Family Road Trip: Rovaniemi - Swedish Lapland - Lofoten
by Elgar · 2024-11-01 · 1 reply
Hi there,

You can always draw inspiration from our trips, which are described via the link in my signature, but we’ve never crossed Finland, Sweden, and Norway "horizontally" like that.

Personally, Bodø isn’t all that exciting. Spend just one day there and prioritize the Lofoten Islands instead. In Rovaniemi, aside from visiting Santa for fun, the Arktikum museum is really interesting.

Happy planning for these beautiful destinations!

Circuit de Bergen à Kirkenes

Bonjour,
