Traveling in April and May in Italy - by train: any circuit suggestions?
by Marlyd · 2026-10-21 · 0 replies
Hello, It's really hard to answer your question. Don’t you have a specific region in mind? We’ve been to Italy several times (and we have family who lives there), but each region is so rich in discoveries that maybe you could tell us more about what you’re looking for. Personally, we’ve visited: part of Piedmont and part of Veneto The Italian lakes in the North The Dolomites Tuscany and Umbria Florence Rome and we just got back from Naples and the Amalfi Coast. Each time, we stayed for at least two weeks and had our car. I haven’t been much help, but I’ll say it again: tell us what you’re interested in…

Off-the-beaten-path recommendations for a 15-day Emilia-Romagna/Tuscany trip in late November?

Don’t hesitate if you have other questions, and you’re right about prices being better in the off-season.
What are some off-the-beaten-path recommendations for a 15-day Emilia Romagna/Tuscany trip at the end of November?

Hello, We visited Tuscany and Umbria in 2019. For accommodations, we booked stays at agritourismos where breakfast was included and sometimes dinner. I just checked my archives, and that year, prices were around 85 € per night with breakfast. That was over 7 years ago, so obviously, you should expect to pay more now. Since you're traveling outside the tourist season, you’ll likely find better prices, but you’ll also have less daylight for sightseeing. There are must-see spots (for me) in both regions. Here’s what we did in 10 days (though I felt it was too rushed): San Gimignano-Volterra-Siena-Pienza-San Quirico d’Orcia-Val d’Orcia-Città della Pieve-Orvieto-Todi-Spoleto-Assisi-Perugia-Gubbio-Arezzo

Hi Jean,

Yes, I’ve found all the day plans and I’ll use them as inspiration to organize our trip—thanks so much for that! We visited Florence in 2023 (we loved it) and in 2024, we traveled with our grandkids (ages 7 and 13) to Pisa and the Cinque Terre. They had a great time discovering those places. Wishing you a wonderful 7th trip to Italy!

Hello, Thanks for your reply and suggestions. I didn’t know about the street art—I’ll make a note of it (we went to Valparaiso, and it was an amazing discovery to see all those works of art). As for Capri, we’ll head there from Ravello if the sea isn’t too rough!!!!

Hi Noëlle, Thanks for your reply. We’re roughly the same age (we’re two couples, 71 and 73). Our accommodation is in the Chiaia district in Naples, then we’ll rent a car for one night in Sorrento and four nights in Ravello. While we’re in Ravello, we plan to visit the Paestum site. If you don’t mind, I’ll note to contact you at the end of May to get your impressions and good tips from your trip. Have a wonderful stay in May. Best regards,

Hi, Thanks for your reply. For the Amalfi Coast, we’re planning to take a boat to Capri, and we also want to visit the small villages along the coast, explore the hinterland, and spend a day at the site of Paestum... and why not a "chill-out" day too!!!! I’ll make a note to check out the Naples Metro.
