Booking in advance or not and your opinion for a 4-week trip to Japan
by Saitham · 2026-10-13 · 0 replies
Hi Elisabeth, yes, on Monday, November 23rd, the subway and JR trains run normally, with weekend schedules: slightly fewer early-morning services, but no issues getting around. The real concern is the crowd: it’s the last day of a three-day weekend, and the momiji are still around, so stations and the airport will be packed. If you’re leaving that day, allow plenty of extra time to reach Haneda or Narita. For teamLab Borderless in case of rain, book your time slot online as soon as you have your date: on rainy days, everyone has the same idea, and slots fill up fast. Your itinerary is well planned, and renting a car in the Alps is the most flexible option between Takayama, Shirakawa-go, and Matsumoto. If you’d like a day-by-day breakdown with schedules and closure days for what you’ve planned, send me a message.

Hi Elisabeth, I’m circling back to your thread since you’re leaving in 15 days. Two useful dates for the end of your trip in Tokyo:

If the Ghibli Museum interests you, it’s closed from November 4 to 18 and on the 24th. For your dates, that leaves only the 19th to the 23rd. November tickets went on sale this morning on the museum’s official website (check the Tickets section)—hurry and see if any spots are left.

Monday, November 23 is a public holiday in Japan, marking the end of a three-day weekend. If that’s your departure day, allow extra time to get to the airport.

If you’d like, I can make a list of what’s open when for your exact dates—just send me a message.
