Motel or RV in the American West?
by Simonic · 2025-10-23 · 0 replies
Hi there. We did a mix of camping, motels, and sleeping under the stars in the back of the pickup. On the heights above Gardiner, take the track toward Jardine. There’s a primitive campsite (toilets only). We used to shower in Yellowstone hotels (public showers) after our visits. One little quirk at the campsite: share the space! 😊

Hi there.

It's mainly about damage caused to others. If you run over Taylor Swift’s dog, with a good lawyer she’ll make you cough up $5,000,000. Have a great day. Jacques.

Urgent problem: no internet extension in the USA
by Simonic · 2025-05-10 · 0 replies
Hi Ducono.

When you're at the hotel with Wi-Fi, you load the SYGIC Premium app (20 € per year) and download all the offline maps for the USA. It takes up a bit of space (on an SD card if needed). Hope this helps. Have a great trip. Jacques.

Is there a deductible for basic car rentals with Alamo in the USA?
by Simonic · 2025-04-22 · 0 replies
Hi there. It's getting more and more complicated to know what's what when renting directly from car rental companies. Go through a provider like Sunny Cars.be, and you'll most likely get Alamo as the rental company. Everything is CLEAR and STRAIGHTFORWARD. Sunny Cars.be terms: Have a great day. Jacques.
Which health insurance should I choose for a trip to the USA?
by Simonic · 2025-04-20 · 0 replies
Hi there.

Personally, I traveled to the US with insurance: FP-AVASSIST.pdf

Understand the difference between coverage without prior approval from your health insurance and an advance on expenses. If you have a credit card, you can combine the insurance. And also get health insurance from a French insurer. AVA 500,000 € + credit card 155,000 € + Macif 80,000 € = 735,000 €.

AVA sends you the forms in English to be filled out by the hospital or doctor. Whenever possible, always notify the insurance right away. I keep an envelope with the forms labeled RESCUE on the dashboard of the rental car, and the small cards provided by AVA in my backpack.

Good prep. Jacques.

While cruising through the Valley of Dreams, I came within 1.5 meters of this guy. Imagine... A selfie with a rattlesnake costs him $150,000 in medical bills

Hi Ducono, I loved Salton Sea. It's a weird and eerie place. If you're staying in Bombay Beach, a good spot: at the café, that's where you book (I think it's the only one near the sign with the 4 ladies water-skiing). You'll be surprised—we paid $80 for two in June 2022 (2 x $40). I couldn't send the video—MVI isn't supported.

Have a good evening. Jacques.

Continuing... Personally, I travel with an N26 card. But I always carry cash for tips and services like flat tires, which are done without receipts. The mechanic fixes it in 15 minutes, cash. Everyone’s happy. Jacques.
