Looking for a travel buddy for London or Italy summer 2025

Looking forward to hearing from you and chatting!
Traveling to the UK: Is cash still used?
Hi fellow travelers,
I’m an old-school cycle tourist, traveling by bike... and I’ll be heading to England, Scotland, and Ireland in September. I was wondering if cash is still used in supermarkets, grocery stores, and generally—do people still use cash in the UK?
Thanks for your replies, happy travels!

15-Day Scotland Road Trip in September
Hi there,
I’m planning a roughly 15-day trip to Scotland at the end of September/beginning of October for a road trip (meaning: renting a car and finding accommodations at strategic points).
There won’t be anything original in my itinerary—I’m discovering Scotland for the first time, so I’ll be visiting the most well-known spots.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and advice. I’m a bit worried about trying to do *too much* in 15 days—the idea is to enjoy myself and not rush or spend my days in the car.
Here are the places I was thinking of stopping to sleep, which gives an idea of the route I’d like to take:
Day 1: Arrival in Edinburgh in the evening Day 2: Day in Edinburgh Day 3: Edinburgh → Cairngorms Day 4: Cairngorms Day 5: Cairngorms → Inverness Day 6: Inverness → Torridon Day 7: Torridon → Plockton Day 8: Plockton → Isle of Skye Day 9: Isle of Skye Day 10: Isle of Skye Day 11: Isle of Skye → Glenfinnan Day 12: Glenfinnan → Trossachs Day 13: Trossachs → Glasgow Day 14: Glasgow → Edinburgh, departure early afternoon
I’m open to all feedback on the itinerary, especially from those who’ve already explored Scotland. Specifically about the stops/overnights—if there’s a better way to do it and if it’s doable without feeling too rushed. Thanks everyone! 🙂

Lewis, Skye, or Mull for a road trip in Scotland?
Hi there,
I’m planning to spend two short weeks in Scotland in June, renting a car in Edinburgh with the goal of focusing on the islands.
If I can only see two (due to tight timing) out of Lewis, Skye, and Mull, which would you recommend?
I was thinking something like this:
Nantes Edinburgh Flight Edinburgh Ullapool Car Ullapool Lewis / Stornoway Ferry Lewis Car Harris / Tarbert Skye / Uig Ferry Skye Car Skye Scotland Car via the bridge So, I don’t think I’ll have time for Mull.
Thanks for your traveler tips! Daniel

ETA for entering British territory
Hi there,
I’m planning to apply for my UK ETA soon and I’d like to know if I need to have a digital ID photo ready already or if the British government’s app takes a photo of us.
I read that the app will ask us to scan our face and take a photo, but on the official site, they just say to have a digital photo available.
So to avoid paying a photographer for nothing, has anyone already applied for their ETA using the app?
Thanks in advance

Travel companion for Scotland – 3 weeks in September 2025
Hi there,
I’ve bought my flight tickets to Scotland for three weeks in early September.
I’m looking for a female travel companion between 30 and 45 who isn’t afraid of driving on the left, since I’m planning to rent a car.
I know Scotland well and speak English.
I’ll be staying in youth hostels or bed and breakfasts, which means we can cook in the evenings.
I’m looking for someone who enjoys hiking, is energetic, loves nature but also culture (castles, churches, museums).
I’d prefer to explore the far north of Scotland, which I haven’t visited yet, but I’m open to other areas too.
Feel free to message me privately.

How to get to Southampton (England) from France?
Hi there,
I found a cruise on the Queen Victoria departing from Southampton, but the trickiest part is getting to Southampton.
We’re leaving from Marseille or Paris if that’s easier.
Thanks for your tips, have a great day!
12 days in the Shetland Islands between May 9 and May 24 (Great Britain)
Hello!
I’m Mélanie, I’m 49. Since my partner isn’t available, I’m looking for a female travel companion between 35 and 60 to join me in the Shetland Islands.
Traveling alone is less fun.
I’ll be going for 12 or 13 days between May 9 and May 24, 2025.
I plan to fly to Sumburgh and then rent a vehicle to get around the islands. I’d like to stay in B&Bs or with locals, and if possible, I’d prefer to have my own room (I snore and don’t want anyone to hold it against me!). But if that’s not possible, we’ll just have to arm ourselves with earplugs!
If the weather isn’t too bad, I’d like to do some easy hikes (around 3 to 4 hours of walking per day). I’ll go at my own pace—I love sketching in my travel journal, so I’ll take breaks sometimes.
And if we can go pet some ponies and sheep, I’ll be in heaven.
What else? Oh right, I speak English, I’ve never driven on the left, and I prefer going to bed early so I can wake up early and make the most of the day. I live in the Paris area and I’m available to meet interested people if they’re nearby too.
I want to book my flight and accommodations as soon as possible, so let me know quickly if you’re interested!
Stopovers in Scotland and Newcastle: Tips for Excursions
Hi everyone,
We’re looking for info on the stopovers in NEWCASTLE, SOUTH QUEENSFERRY, INVERGORDON, and LERWICK. Cruise departing from Hamburg.
Thanks in advance to those who can tell us if the ports are far from the cities, what there is to see, and whether we can manage excursions on our own...
Have a great day
Looking for travel buddies late May - open destination - and Scotland in September
Hi there,
Due to a change in plans, I’ve got 3 weeks off starting at the end of May and another 3 weeks in early September.
I’d like to go back to Scotland either at the end of May or in September, but I’ve noticed that flight tickets are cheaper in September for Scotland since the long weekends in May will probably be pretty booked up, I think.
So I’m leaning more toward Scotland in September and keeping May-June open: Georgia, the Baltics, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Ireland, Scandinavia, or even farther afield (Sri Lanka, Canada, etc.). I’m open to suggestions!
I travel with a backpack, staying in youth hostels, small hotels, or bed and breakfasts.
I usually get around by train and bus, but for Scotland, Ireland, Scandinavia, and Iceland, I think renting a car would be more practical.
I love hiking, cultural visits, architecture, history, etc. I speak English fluently.
Feel free to message me privately!

Processing time for Scotland visa and 10-day itinerary recommendations
Hi, flight ticket booked for Scotland—10 days in May! 🙂
First question: I see on websites that starting from 01/04, a visa might be required to visit Scotland... How long does it take to get one, and what’s the cost?
Second question: What are the must-see spots, and what itinerary would you recommend for 10 nights?
Thanks for your tips! 😉

Weekend in London and Vitamin String Quartet concert on May 24–25, 2025
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for one or more travel companions (female travelers welcome!) for a weekend in London on May 24 and 25, 2025.
I’d like to go to the Vitamin String Quartet concert on the evening of May 24. This classical music group is famous for their music from *Bridgerton*, but also for their covers of Taylor Swift and other current artists.
I’d also like to do some cultural and foodie sightseeing during the weekend.
Feel free to get in touch!
Have a great day. Maelle

Travel companion for 2 weeks in Europe end of April 2025
Hi there,
I finally have two weeks off at the end of April, and flight prices to some destinations have gone up, so I’m no longer considering the Canary Islands, for example.
I’m open to any destination, but not too far away given the short two-week timeframe.
Southern Italy, Sicily, Wales, England, Ireland... Eastern and Northern Europe appeal to me, but I’m not sure about the weather being ideal.
I’m looking for a female travel companion to hike, explore cities, etc...

3 weeks in Scotland late May - mid June 2025
Hi there,
I’m updating my post because VoyageForum didn’t quite get the dates right in the title.
I’m looking for a female travel companion to hike and explore the north of Scotland for three weeks, starting the last week of May through mid-June.
I already know Scotland well and this time I’d like to discover the northern tip facing the Orkney Islands.
We’ll rent a car and stay in bed and breakfasts or hostels if available.
Feel free to message me privately.

ETA now mandatory for the UK
Back in the good old days when the UK was part of the European Union, a European ID card was all you needed to visit.
After Brexit, a passport became required.
Now, on top of that, you’ll also have to pay (£10) for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation):
UK expands digital travel system to include more visitors - GOV.UK
Eligible Europeans can start applying for this ETA from March 5, 2025, and it will be mandatory for travel from April 2, 2025.

Preparing for a trip to Wales and Cornwall
Hello fellow travelers 😎,
I’m taking advantage of VoyageForum’s comeback 😉even better😉 to post my request for help.
Thanks for reopening this essential forum.
My wife and I are planning a trip to Scotland in April-May 2025, in a camper van (L 8.70 x H 3.00).
I’m mentioning this just to avoid roads that won’t work for us.
However, we also enjoy parking and exploring by bike.
We’ve already prepared the first part of this trip well.
To combine business with pleasure, we’d like to continue on to Wales and Cornwall. This extension will last about 20 days. The second part of our trip will start in Chester and end in Dover.
We’d love to hear from "seasoned travelers" who’ve already done these routes—tips on must-see places and landmarks, possible stops at campsites, motorhome areas, or "wild" camping spots without issues or restrictions.
And of course, the culinary stops!
All of this with respect for the places and people.
I’m sure I’m forgetting some things, but I’ll build our itinerary as I gather information.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who shares their experiences and recommendations.
