Off-the-beaten-path spots near Izmir?
by Bluecrabber · 2025-08-21 · 1 reply
Hi there, I’m heading to Turkey soon for a solid month. I was thinking of exploring the Aegean coast, but I’m a bit worried about crowds… even though it’ll be mid-September. Any hidden gems or favorite spots you’d recommend? Quiet beaches, maybe? Thanks for your tips! Patricia
A disastrous experience with Lastminute.com

A disastrous experience with Lastminute.com – Family left outside with no assistance

I booked a stay at the Akgun Istanbul Hotel via for a total of 3 884 €. Despite receiving a booking confirmation, the hotel refused to accommodate us. My wife was sick, we had two children with us, and we literally found ourselves outside with no help at all. We had to book another hotel at our own expense, and even with the evidence we provided (medical documents, receipts, exchanges with customer service), only refunded 717 €. Customer service refused to reopen the case, completely ignoring the exceptional circumstances. No gesture, no assistance, no respect.

I strongly advise against using this platform for anyone traveling with family or in sensitive situations. If something goes wrong, you’ll be on your own.
Sunny Destination - 3 Weeks Between September and October 2025
by Buterfly82 · 2025-08-18 · 0 replies
Hello!

I’m planning to spend nearly 3 weeks in the sun in September (from mid-September to October 7th).

I’d prefer a sunny destination. I was thinking of places like Turkey, Greece, an Eastern European country (Georgia, Bulgaria, etc.), the Canary Islands, Portugal, or even South Africa.

The idea is to mix visits to monuments, hikes in parks, and some beach relaxation.

I’m primarily looking for female travel companions for convenience, ideally around my age (I’m 42).

I usually organize my trips solo without going through an agency.

Once there, I’m used to walking a lot and getting around by public transport (train, coach, bus, etc.).

Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Have a great day! !

I’m looking for a man I met 42 years ago in Calvi, Corsica. His name at the time was Ayat Azir, and he’s Turkish from Izmir. He was in the 2nd REP with the French Foreign Legion. It’s been a long time, but I’d really love to find him again. Thanks for your help.
15 days in Turkey with family: Is this itinerary doable?
by Normandaluz · 2025-03-11 · 28 replies
Hi there. About a month ago, I posted a potential itinerary for Bulgaria and Istanbul, but in the end, since we found some relatively cheap flight tickets to Istanbul, we decided to go for a trip to Turkey instead.

When? 2 weeks, late August (14th to 29th) Who? Dad, mom, a 17-year-old teen, and an 11-year-old child

Here’s our plan: do you think it’s doable? Any practical tips?

We start with 4 full days in Istanbul (5 nights) Then, we rent a car and head to Ephesus. We stay there for 1 day (2 nights) After that, we drive to Kaş. We stay there for 4 full days (5 nights), enough time to relax a bit, see Kaputaş Beach and Kekova, the site of Myra, the site of Patara, and possibly the site of Çıralı/Olympos—even though it’s a bit far—and Saklıkent Gorge. From Kaş, we spend 2 nights near Denizli to see Pamukkale and Aphrodisias. Is it possible to visit both sites in the same day? Then, we travel from Pamukkale back to Istanbul, return the car, and spend one last night in Istanbul.

Thanks for your thoughts!
Buying a bike and formalities for a Turkey-to-Vietnam motorcycle road trip
by Maxence90325 · 2025-03-03 · 1 reply
Hi everyone,

I’d like to do a 5-month motorcycle road trip from Turkey to Vietnam. To do this, I’d like to buy a used bike locally. Do you know what steps are involved (especially the administrative ones for insurance, registration, etc.)? Are they quick? And do you know any reliable places to buy a used motorcycle?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

6-day road trip in southern and western Turkey: our experience
by Ideesdevoyag · 2025-02-09 · 0 replies
Hi everyone,

At the end of October 2024, we were lucky enough to spend a little over a week in Turkey—heading to Antalya. We then set off on a 6-day road trip exploring southern and western Turkey! Since planning a trip isn’t always easy, we’re sharing our itinerary and feedback on the different places we visited.

With a few photos, we hope to wow you 😎!

Here’s our loop itinerary starting from Antalya (a packed schedule, but it let us see so much):

Day 1 - Antalya (Kaleiçi, the historic center of Antalya) and Lara Beach

Day 2 - The Lycian site of Myra and the port of Kaş

Day 3 - The Turquoise Coast: Kaputaş Beach, the beach and dunes of Patara, the Saklıkent Canyon, the “ghost village” of Kayaköy, the ruins of Telmessos, and the Tomb of Amyntas

Day 4 - The Iztuzu Beach and the village of Şirince

Day 5 - The ancient city of Ephesus and the rural village of Birgi

Day 6 - Pamukkale and Hierapolis, then the seaside resort of Side before returning to Antalya (Day 7 in the morning).

So, does this make you want to take a little road trip in Turkey or what 😉?

For each visit, we’ve shared on our personal blog
https://ideesdevoyage.fr (type it directly into your address bar) the practical info you need to know (hours, prices, etc.), but most importantly, tips to make the most of your visit (where to park for free, how to avoid crowds, the best time for great lighting, must-see photo spots, and more).

We hope this itinerary and our tips will inspire you and help you plan your future trip to southern and western Turkey.

If you’d like to react or have any questions, don’t hesitate!

Hi, we’re planning a 15-day road trip in mid-May. We’d like to rent a vehicle with a reliable agency (I’d seen CIZGI, but the reviews are really mixed). Rates with full insurance are around 1000 € or even more…) Do you know of a rental company that won’t rip us off? Thanks for your help. Praline33
Cappadocia itinerary: where to start?
by Guy1 · 2025-01-04 · 4 replies
Hello, We’re planning (two people in their early sixties!) a trip to Cappadocia next April for 9 days on site, and I need your help.

We land in Ankara. We’re planning 1 day in the capital, then taking a bus to Göreme. I’ve read that Göreme is very touristy and that it’s better to stay in Urgup (or elsewhere). What do you think?

From there, I’m not really sure how to organize our sightseeing "circuit" to avoid too much back-and-forth and keep it coherent… and that’s where I could use your help! We enjoy nature but also cities, a bit of hiking, and discovering unusual spots. Is it necessary to rent a car for more flexibility, or are public transport options doable without losing too much time?

Final question: Is 6 or 7 days in Cappadocia too long? If so, what would you recommend nearby without spending hours on a bus? We prefer seeing less but better, and without rushing too much. Thanks so much, and if you have any great budget-friendly tips, don’t hesitate!! Thanks.
Under Antalya's Sky (Turkey)

Saturday, November 9, 2024 We left the house in the late morning, heading to the nearby airport parking lot, shuttle, formalities, and a quiet flight on a half-empty plane. Three hours eastward, we arrived in pitch-black night. Like everywhere in the world, we entered the city by crossing a vast, garish commercial zone, then the roads turned into streets, then alleys. Eventually, our driver had to stop to move poorly parked scooters so his oversized minibus could pass. We arrived in the middle of the old town, in a huge old house. We’re thrilled. The neighborhood is lively, full of atmosphere. Hungry and exhausted, we ate (very well) at the hotel restaurant, then strolled around. First impressions are promising!

Sunday, November 10, 2024 Antalya In this part of the world, there are some quirks that don’t always suit us infidels! Here in Antalya, the religious influence is still pretty light. You can drink freely, girls can save a lot on fabric—it’s all good, no one’s gonna say anything. But there’s the muezzin. That lanky guy who belts out his tune five times a day from the top of his minaret didn’t spare us this morning. Just a heads-up, we’ve got a two-hour time difference, and this guy starts his serenade at 4 AM, right in the middle of the night. That’s early!

Anyway, we recover, have breakfast, and realize that in terms of revered figures, Atatürk doesn’t take a backseat to the prophet responsible for our nighttime disturbances. We’d already been surprised by how ubiquitous his portrait is, but on the restaurant terrace, we see it’s a full-blown cult. There’s a little altar with rose petals under his portrait. First thing in the morning, the staff lines up to pay their respects, then sings a stirring hymn while some customers stand, hand on heart.

Right after breakfast, we set off like explorers through the old town. It’s incredible how many walls, monuments, and statues have survived from the glorious Greek and Roman eras. Back then, they built things to last!

Randonnées avec enfants autour d'Antalya (Turquie)
by Soph07 · 2020-09-15 · 6 replies
Merci
