Bonsoir à tous et à toutes, C'est mon premier message ici. J'ai beaucoup lu mais je n'ai jamais posté. J'y ai trouvé de très nombreux et bons conseils pour la préparation de mon voyage. Je pars mardi pour mon premier voyage en Inde (avec une amie). Nous arrivons à Delhi, nous irons à Agra, Bénarès et Calcutta. Je prépare notre itinéraire et Bénarès est, je pense, la partie la plus intéressante et excitante du voyage. Mais j'ai un peu de mal avec Delhi. Alors je fais appel à vous... Quels sont les sites de Delhi à ne pas manquer? Nous partons 3 semaines, je pense qu'il ne faudra pas trop s'attarder à Delhi puisqu'un long périple nous attend... Il y a quelques mois déjà, j'avais fait appel à vous pour récolter des informations sur une journée à Bruges. Plusieurs m'avaient répondu avec empressement. Me revoici pour vous raconter mes impressions de voyage sur la Hollande ainsi que mes 2 journées en Belgique.

Tout d'abord, il faut dire que nous sommes demeurés dans des B&B. L'accueil de tous nos hôtes fut remarquable. Nous avons été impressionnés par la collaboration dont ont fait preuve les Hollandais pour nous aider dans toutes nos démarches (locations de vélos, informations touristiques, commandes dans les restos.) Chacun souriait devant mon anglais déficient teinté d'un très fort accent québécois. Nous avons adoré la ville d'Amsterdam, je crois que je pourrais facilement vivre en banlieue de cette grande ville. Les pistes cyclables, la tolérance face à tous, les milliers de terrasses et de restos, les musées, les canaux font de cette ville un endroit de choix. Dommage que certains ne retiennent que le "red light" dont la réputation est surfaite et qui ne vaut pas le détour. Il faut dire que je suis une fille!😛

Nous avons fait des circuits vélos d'environ 50 km au départ d'Amsterdam. Mes coups de coeur sont nombreux: Les jardins de KEUKENOFF (Le plus beau que je n'aie jamais visité), les champs de tulipes à Lisse, ZAAN SHANSE, le vélo sur la digue reliant l'île de Marken à la côte, les soupers sur les terrasses à Schevenigen avec le soleil se couchant sur la mer du nord comme fond de scène, Den Haag et le palais Het Loo comparable à celui de Versailles. Je n'oublie pas le gouda, du marché aux fromages d'Alkmaar. Un voyage de rêve que je recommande à tous les amoureux de cyclisme (même débutants).

À la fin de nos vacances, nous avons fait un saut à Bruges. Quelle ville froide et ce dans tous les sens du mot(il y a eu de la pluie et du vent toute la journée). Nous nous attendions à un accueil chaleureux pour nos premiers contacts en français. Malgré ce qu'en dit mon copain belge qui croit que l'accent québécois est très loin de l'accent belge, il semble y avoir eu méprise. Nous avons compris qu'il était préférable de poursuivre en anglais. Nous avons trouvé les gens peu collaborateurs et je ne recommanderai sûrement pas le petit hôtel où nous avons séjourné. C'est dommage car la ville est magnifique.

Heureusement, notre 2e journée en Belgique fut une grande réussite grâce à notre guide belge (un gentil copain rencontré sur le site) avec un sourire magnifique soit dit en passant😉. Il nous a permis de découvrir la très belle ville de Tournai, sa cathédrale, son beffroi, le hall aux draps et une petite fabrique de chocolats pour satisfaire la dent sucrée de la petite Québécoise. Nous avons ensuite rencontré sa famille, des gens très cultivés avec le sens de l'humour caractéristique des Belges (et oui, il y a eu des blagues sur les Français). Sachez que j'ai déjà voyagé en France et que j'apprécie les Français tout autant que les Belges, votre réputation n'est pas ternie.

Je souhaite à tous ceux qui auront la chance de visiter la Hollande de vivre un voyage aussi incroyable que le mien.

Je rêve déjà d'un nouveau voyage en Europe pour l'été prochain, mais cette fois-ci j'aimerais tenter l'expérience d'échange de maison. Je suis ouverte à toutes les destinations européeenes à la recherche de paysages magnifiques. Si vous avez des suggestions, il me fera plaisir de vous lire.

Rêve de voyage

J'arrive à Budapest le 29 juin et je repars le 30 au soir pour la Roumanie. Où me conseillez-vous d'aller coucher (je ne veux pas dépenser plus de 70euros pour la nuit), que dois-je absolument voir avant de partir de Budapest? Quel moyen de transport devrais-je utiliser pour profiter du paysage jusqu'à Oradia? Merci!

Je prépare mon tour du monde qui va commencer par presque 3 mois en Australie (juin - juillet - août) 😎.

J'ai envie de profiter à fond de ce pays et de voir un maximum de paysages variés. Je compte me déplacer en car et/ou avion (le moins cher possible, et je ne suis pas pressée !). J'ai aussi une "contrainte" : je voudrais me débrouiller pour être dans le "red centre" la premiere semaine d'août (des amis me rejoindront là-bas).

Je pensais commencer par arriver à Perth, longer la côte Sud jusqu'à Melbourne (juin), puis me balader entre Melbourne et Sydney (juillet) (éventuellement passer quelques jours en Tasmanie... mais apparemment c'est vraiment pas la bonne saison), de là aller à Alice Springs où je retrouverais mes amis (début août), puis aller dans le Nord autour de Darwin (août).

Qu'en pensez-vous ? Est-ce que la répartition du temps vous semble bien ? est-ce que je risque de louper quelque chose ?...

Connaitriez vous un porte bebe dorsal vraiment bien (vendu ou livrable en Belgique ou eventuellement en France). Pas pour faire des treks mais pour emmener bebe (16 mois) avec nous en voyage sac-a-dos et bus etc en Asie.

Il faudrait donc qu'il ait un pare-soleil et une protection pluie, que le bebe soit en hauteur (donc il faut une armature alu), une bequille, pas lourds, et pliable au maximum. Les roues ne sont pas necessaires vu qu'on emmenerait une pousette cane ultra legere. J'en ai vu un sur un site internet qui a toutes ces qualites (alize de red castel) mais impossible de le trouver en vrai ni de le commander... Celui-la ou un autre avec les memes qualites, ca m'est egale evidemment.

Je suis allé en Islande cet été. Super voyage. Retour à l'aéroport pour un vol à 7h du matin. Pas trop réveillé, j'enregistre mes bagages et me rend au passage de la fouille. Je vide mes poches devant l'agent de sécurité et découvre que j'avais oublié de mettre mon couteau suisse dans mes bagages enregistrés. L'homme de sécurité me l'a pris immédiatement en me disant qu'il était perdu. J'ai protesté, puis de retour en France j'ai envoyé un e-mail aux responsables de l'aéroport (cf ci-dessous). Je n'ai pas eu de réponse. J'ai trouvé lamentable cette façon de se comporter. Est-ce déjà arrivé à l'un d'entre vous, si oui, qu'avez vous fait?

I took the flight n° 0542 this morning (09/10/03) from Keflavik to Paris at 7:45.

During the handbag security control, I emptied my pockets and discovered that I forgot to let my Swiss knife in my luggage.

Then, the security airport staff took it to me immediately and said that it was lost!

I was shocked. This Swiss knife is a gift from my parents done 17 years ago (the initials of my name are carved on the red part

of the knife "S.D").

I desperately tried to find a solution discussing with the agent and his above in the rank who repeated stupidly `this is the rule´.

Then, I proposed two solutions : to give the knife to the pilot in order he gives it back to me at the arrival in Paris, to check-in another time the knife in the unique plastic bag I had left.

These two proposals have been rejected. NO OTHER SOLUTION has been proposed by the supposed "PROFESSIONAL"

security airport staff.

However, with a bit of good sense, there was at least, 2 possibilities, I found during my flight back : Ask another passenger to Paris to put my Swiss knife in his luggage at the checking step, Send it to myself in Paris by airmail (post-office service).

But even your staff did not think about it. Then, my knife stayed in Keflavik airport.

I state that I have been robbed by the security staff. This is a pity after 2 good travelling weeks in your country. I will never forget

this stupid event.

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)

Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly! Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!

On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.

We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Hi, I’m heading to Thailand for the first time in early 2026 and I’m really struggling to pick a neighborhood to stay in Bangkok. Apart from being close to public transport (metro, skytrain, BRT), I’m torn between several areas. I don’t mind using public transport or walking long distances, but if every trip takes 45 minutes or an hour, it’ll quickly become a hassle given our relatively short time there.

We’ll be in Bangkok twice during our trip: first for a “short” 2-night stopover (arriving from France in the mid-afternoon, then leaving the day after next for southern Thailand by plane), and then again for 3 nights before flying back to France (arriving at the airport in the late afternoon, 3 nights there, then departing for France in the late morning).

I’ve seen so many different recommendations that I’m having a hard time deciding. I’ve read that staying near the river is great for sightseeing, and that taking the boat to get around is really pleasant. But I’m worried about being a bit isolated for evening outings (eating at a cheap little restaurant, having a drink—nothing too wild!).

Chinatown is tempting for the food—it looks amazing—and it doesn’t seem too far from the main sights with public transport. But I’ve read that it’s very noisy because it’s super touristy and there’s constant truck traffic. My friend isn’t thrilled about it, especially since another neighborhood interests her because she has a great discount at a hotel near Victory Monument/Phaya Thai (the Pullman hotel). Even though it’s close to public transport, I’ve seen that it’s mostly a shopping district? And even with transport, isn’t it a long trip to visit places like the Grand Palace?

We also had a plan to stay at an ibis near BTS Nana station in the Sukhumvit area, but again, I get the feeling it’s mostly a shopping district?

Anyway, I’d love to hear your thoughts because I’m really torn!

It’s also true that I haven’t really planned our Bangkok stays yet. I’d like to do the “classic” tourist sights like the Grand Palace and eat really well! Someone told me that the big shopping malls also have amazing food 🙂

After our amazing experience in the Lofoten Islands in summer 2023, I suggested to Jean Marie another trek I’d been wanting to do for a long time: the Skye Trail in Scotland.

A few photos of this stunning island and he was sold and ready to go.

The route is available on the excellent WalkHighlands site HERE (there’s also a Cicerone guide on the subject). And since I thought it was a shame it avoided the Black Cuillins, I added a 3-day detour in that area.

We took advantage of the May bank holidays in 2024, partly to avoid the peak tourist season and also the midge period—because for some reason, mosquitoes love me 😠!!

On the way back, we’ve planned: - The evening of April 17th: the Karnak Sound and Light show - April 18th: a hot-air balloon ride - After the balloon ride on April 18th, we’re heading to Marsa Alam to join a group leaving for Sataya; our boat departs on the 19th.

Do you know what the cost of a Luxor to Marsa Alam transfer is? I’ve seen prices that vary wildly—some double what others quote—and I’m not sure what budget to plan for.

Can we organize the Karnak Sound and Light show and the hot-air balloon ride on our own, or is it complicated? If you also know of a reliable local agency for transfers and excursions, I’d love to hear about it.

Hi there, From Windhoek to Namaqualand, is it possible to take a route further east than the B1 national road, and are there any points of interest along that way? Thanks in advance.

After visiting Newfoundland Island, we took the ferry to Blanc-Sablon, a municipality located on the Lower North Shore in Quebec, Canada.

Instead of heading back to Quebec via Sydney in Nova Scotia, we decided to explore the Lower North Shore—the least-known region of Quebec—as well as Labrador, which is part of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

From Blanc-Sablon, we drove to the municipality of Vieux-Fort via Route 138. This road ends in that municipality.

Afterward, we crossed Labrador to return to the Old Capital. Only one road allows this route. It wasn’t fully paved during our trip, but it is now.

We made stops in different areas to go on hikes that let us discover some incredible landscapes.

I hope this travel journal inspires you to venture into these stunning regions.

Hello everyone! Booked the cruise a year in advance for a departure from Rio on April 5th. Air France flight to Rio on April 3rd, arriving at the Windsor Plaza hotel, very well located just 300 meters from Copacabana Beach, with a pool on the 15th floor offering a view of Rio. The next morning, a behind-the-scenes visit to Rio’s Carnival—there were still some floats not yet dismantled and a little samba session. At noon, lunch on Copacabana Beach, which was deserted due to rain and gray skies all day.

Saturday, April 5th, boarding the *Marina*—still raining :( To get around Rio, we used Uber, which was really cheap—5 euros for a 15-minute ride, while taxis cost double... Arrived at the cruise terminal, boarding was very quick as usual with Oceania. The cabins would be ready around 3 PM, with luggage at the cabin door. We had booked an inside cabin. Despite numerous offers from Oceania to upgrade (with a supplement, of course), we stuck with our first choice. It’s worth noting that at least 200 cabins remained unoccupied—about 800 passengers for this transatlantic crossing... Last September, since the cruise wasn’t filling up well, Oceania lowered the price by 1,000 euros per person for an inside cabin—a great deal for us, as they adjusted the rate downward when we asked.

For this cruise, weekends and drinks at the table were included—champagne, wine, beer...—plus an onboard credit that’s now only for excursions (before, it was more flexible—another downgrade, lol).

Headed to the Terrace Café for our first meal, and what a surprise when we saw the changes... No more staff mixing your chosen salad, and way fewer options: big bowls of salad, trays of potato salad, beets, lentils—I don’t remember seeing that before—thin slices of cold cuts and cheese. On the meat side, not much choice and lower quality. Desserts also had fewer options. Well, we’ll make up for it at Jacques on the first night ;) The menu hasn’t changed much—it’s still top-notch. The seasoning is average, but it’s a safe bet.

A little note on the 15-day cruise: we ate at 11 different restaurants—3 at Jacques, 3 at Polo Grill, 3 at Toscana, and 2 at Red Ginger. Not bad for two weeks ;) A French officer invited us to Toscana, which was really nice of her. Polo Grill is still amazing—I’d rank it second after Jacques, with Toscana third and Red Ginger last. I think since the ship wasn’t full, it was easier to get into these restaurants ;)

The staff was, as always, excellent. There were 3 French employees on the *Marina*: 1 waiter at Jacques, 1 manager at Wave, and 1 officer in the offices.

In the afternoon, Tea Time had way fewer pastry choices than before... Cost-cutting seems to be happening at every level. We met people who used to stay in Penthouse Suites—before, they got a bottle of champagne in their suite every night, but since January, it’s been Prosecco instead... Just a small example of Oceania’s cost reductions. At the Terrace Café in the evening, there was no more lobster on this cruise :(
