I’m planning a trip to Norway for June 2026 and have some questions about the Arctic Route (E6) from Narvik to Alta: - Starting from Narvik, how far along this route is it worth going? - Are the landscapes really more stunning as you get closer to Alta? - How many days is reasonable for a round trip? - Side question: Can anyone recommend a car rental company in Narvik?

We’ve never been this far north before—this will be our first trip near the Arctic Circle.

Hello, Namibia in April for 11 days from the 10th to the 21st with 2 adults and 3 (our son from the 16th to the 21st). We’re looking to combine 2 short circuits for this brief stay. Should we book a vehicle and accommodation through an agency?

We’re used to traveling independently, but we’re hesitant about Namibia! Any recommendations for vehicle rental sites? And agencies?

I wanted to share my experience from a trip to Amsterdam. Spring is coming, and it’s one of my favorite destinations for this season, especially with the Keukenhof in bloom.

There are so many museums to visit and places to see, like Dam Square, the Royal Palace, Museum Square, the Red Light District... Some spots, like the Anne Frank House, require reservations. You can also take walks along the canals or even go on canal cruises.

For museums, I really enjoyed the Rijksmuseum for works by Rembrandt and Vermeer, as well as the Van Gogh Museum (combo tickets are available).



For more nature-focused outings, there’s Vondelpark, Keukenhof Park, and the windmills at Zaanse Schans... You can find all my photos and details about my trip budget on my travel journal for Amsterdam.

I’m reaching out for your advice on a Crete itinerary. We’re a group of 3 (2 adults and 1 teen) and will be traveling for 13 days / 12 nights in early August. To enjoy the trip without rushing too much, we’ve decided to focus on the western part of the island. Before diving into the details of our planned route, here’s a bit about how we like to travel. We’re big fans of hiking, bivouacking in the Pyrenees, or bike touring. We’re well aware that Crete is a popular summer destination, but we’d like to avoid overly crowded spots while still trying to visit places we consider "must-sees"—or at least those we’re eager to discover. For activities, hiking might be tricky due to the heat, but we’re thinking of water-based fun and historical visits: snorkeling, windsurfing or paddleboarding, gorges, and so on. For accommodations, we’ll mix it up between guesthouses, hotels, and private rentals.

Here’s what we’re considering: Day 1: Arrival in the evening in Heraklion – Night in Heraklion. Day 2: Head to Chania / Night in Chania - 3 nights in Falassarna (exploring Balos and the surrounding area) - 3 nights in Paleochora (discovering Elafonissi and nearby) - 3 nights in Sougia (day trip by ferry to Loutro, Agia Roumeli) Then, return to Rethymnon in the morning by road and spend our last night there (after checking various guides and forums, the ferry option seems a bit too restrictive, so we’re planning to drive back to Heraklion for our flight at the end of the day).

Hi there, I’ll be in Oman in early March 2025. I’ve rented a 4x4 to reach the Oman Sea coast from Ibra. I’ve seen two options on Oman Off Road:

The OOR 30 route via Wadi Kabbah, Wadi Bani Jabir to Qalhat.

Combine the OOR 30 and OOR 28 routes via the Salma Plateau to Tiwi or Fins.

Can anyone advise me on the current condition of the tracks? For option 2, is it better to head down to Tiwi or Fins? Can this trip be done in one day? Thanks in advance to those who can share some great tips!

As big lovers of India—we’ve been six times—my co-traveler husband and I decided to explore Rajasthan this time around. The reason we waited so long to come here? We were dreading the tourist crowds in this state. But thanks to the timing (late March to early April 2024, which is starting to get pretty hot) and Aleph’s great tips, we were *very* far from mass tourism.

We spent three weeks getting around on our own for transport: mostly taxis and trains.

And I’ll admit, we had a rather "Arabian Nights" experience, far from the "real" India (Marien, if you’re reading this 😉). So this travel journal makes no claims other than to share what we saw, experienced, and felt—with all our ignorance about this country (which I’m fully aware of).

But fair warning: I go overboard with emojis, and this journal is super casual because it’s the one I share, almost in "live" mode, with our loved ones.

So, if you’re here, consider yourself almost part of the family 😄.

I’m planning a road trip through Southern Africa during the 2025 austral winter—South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi... and if I feel like it, maybe back to Namibia, Botswana, etc. To make this happen, I’d like to ship my 4x4 in a high-cube container and pick it up in Durban. Has anyone had experience with customs clearance at the port of Durban (South Africa) using a CPD (Carnet de Passage en Douane)? Thanks in advance for any tips or firsthand experience on this!

An interesting destination to discover for the end-of-year holidays, the Baltics. We visited Riga in Latvia (5 nights) and Tallinn in Estonia (4 nights) over 9 days in December 2024.

We loved Riga—the calm of its old town, its atmosphere, its architecture, and all the things to explore. Its little Christmas market is really nice. A great discovery.

Tallinn is a beautiful city, both modern on one side and with its medieval old town rich in history on the other. A bit livelier and more touristy than Riga, Tallinn is a city worth discovering by the Baltic Sea.

These two countries aren’t necessarily "cheap" compared to France. At this time of year, expect gray skies, short days, cold weather, and snow.

2025 is shaping up to be amazing, as I’m lucky enough to be planning a 6-week trip to Polynesia. I wanted to buy the *Guide du Routard* (my favorite), but I discovered there isn’t one for this destination. And the *Lonely Planet* is from 2022, which I feel is already a bit outdated. So I’m looking for other resources: in your opinion, what’s the best paper guide, and most importantly, what online resources have you used to prepare a trip to Polynesia?

I’m currently planning our first trip to Japan. We’ll be traveling with our two teens, aged 16 and 17. We’re doing a pretty classic loop, but I’d still love to hear your valuable input.

Here’s the itinerary we’re considering:

- Tokyo (5 full days) - Fuji Yoshida (1 night) - Matsumoto (1 night) - Kamikochi / Gokayama (1 night) - Kanazawa (1 night) - Ine (1 night) - Himeji - Kyoto (5 full days)

We’re thinking of renting a car for the Japanese Alps portion.

We’re planning a 3-week trip, so I still have a few days to allocate—maybe in the Japanese Alps.

What do you think of the itinerary? The detour to Ine might seem odd, but I really want to include a coastal part—any thoughts? Is renting a car in Japan a total hassle?

And finally, is it absolutely necessary to book all accommodations in advance if we’re traveling in August? Or can I leave some flexibility for the Kanazawa / Ine / Himeji portion? Maybe if we really love a place and want to stay longer?

I need help creating my IRCTC account. I tried to create an account via the website (not the app), but I’m not receiving any OTP at my email address. It asks me to verify my OTP to confirm registration, but I’ve tried multiple emails and checked spam, trash, etc.—nothing. I’m not getting any OTP at all.

What should I do now?

I want to take the train from Delhi to Agra Cantt. What are my options without an IRCTC account? I have a trip from New Delhi to Agra and another from Agra to Jaipur.

FYI: I’d prefer to avoid the bus since it doesn’t seem to stop, and I don’t feel comfortable jumping off a moving bus. Too risky for my taste.

Slovenia was the originally planned destination for summer 2022, as a complement to a road trip through Croatia and Montenegro. Plans changed on a whim in February of that year. Our Balkans road trip would ultimately be limited to Slovenia and take place over 10 days during the Easter school holidays. Flight tickets and car rental were booked right away; all that was left was to finalize our itinerary, already sketched out, and the accommodation reservations.

I decided to add Plitvice Lakes in Croatia to our program. I really wanted to discover them, and for my husband, it was a chance to revisit them several years after a trip to Yugoslavia when he was a teenager.

So, I’m turning to you for advice on a trip I’m planning for March 2025, from the 7th to the 21st. I was thinking of a classic itinerary: Arrival in Delhi at 12:05 AM on Saturday, then taking a train in the afternoon to Agra. 2 nights in Agra 2 nights in Jaipur 2 nights in Pushkar 2 nights in Jodhpur 3 nights in Udaipur Then flying back to Delhi. The trip would mostly be by train (which we love) and bus. However, after reading various travelers’ comments, some cities seem less interesting, while others I hadn’t included—like Bundi and Jaisalmer—are catching my eye. But traveling by train and bus, I’m worried it might get really complicated. I’m not sure how to organize my stay anymore, especially since we love nature and peace and quiet… and I’m afraid of too much hassle if everything isn’t planned. Following the (wise) advice of "Les Caribous," I'm starting a post to describe the trip I'd like to take from mid-September 2025 for three weeks. Here’s the planned route: Departing from Nantes. Montréal/Ottawa/Mont-Tremblant/Mauricie/Lac St-Jean/Saguenay Fjord/Tadoussac/Gaspésie, then returning via Québec and Montréal. I’d love some tips on must-see spots and how long to spend at each stop. We’re not big "hikers," so minimal hiking. Don’t hesitate to suggest cutting stops—especially if they seem unnecessary or too time-consuming. So happy to see that VoyageForum is back up! We're planning a trip to Thailand in October 2025. We're looking for quiet islands with nature/jungle, beaches, and pretty villages (no party scene!). We'll be traveling with our 5-year-old son. I've done some research and found a few islands that seem to fit our criteria. We're torn between the islands on the Gulf side (Koh Chang, Koh Mak, Koh Kood) and the Andaman Sea islands (Koh Yao Noi, Koh Yao Yai). What are your tips? Any area to prefer in October? I’ve got some questions about the Machu Picchu excursion. we’re in our 60s and 70s, and while we’re pretty fit at European altitudes, I’m a bit worried about hiking above 2,500 m! that’s why we didn’t hesitate to skip the 4-day Inca Trail trek. but I’m wondering about the 2-day "short Inca Trail" offered by some agencies—basically one day of hiking with visits to a few sites, and the second day, the classic Machu Picchu visit. has anyone done it? do you need to be in top shape? thanks for your tips

I’m paraphrasing the title of discussions that were popping up back in 2020. Back then, the obstacles were travel restrictions and all sorts of often very arbitrary "health" rules. Today, it feels like we’re facing an epidemic of wanderlust that’s piling up in certain places—places that keep expanding. Places that end up feeling like wallpaper, just part of the scenery, more or less exotic, since the people, the dominant crowd, are always the same. And they’re especially overwhelming in limited spaces like villages, museums, and other remarkable sites.

Personally, it tends to send my cortisol levels through the roof, leading to desperate attempts to salvage what I can (the stress when I saw a travel journal about eastern Crete—then, phew, at least this little piece of old Greece hasn’t been exposed yet. Maybe it’ll survive a little longer). So, no more weekends in beautiful European cities. So, adjusted visiting hours, but that’s not always enough (I’ll still have to say goodbye to Caravaggio’s *Madeleine* since I can’t have a quiet moment with her anymore, even late in the day). So, outright giving up: I’ll never see Machu Picchu. Too late. So, shifting travel dates to minimize the damage (Uzbekistan was originally planned for Easter—with April 24th and May 1st to limit vacation days—but the anxiety of tourist crowds during that mild climate period, with few days off, led me to reschedule the trip for winter. Short days and possible rain are a thousand times better).

Avoiding crowds has become a fundamental criterion for choosing destinations and timing.

And you? Are you able to tune out this identical crowd everywhere, or has it changed your relationship with travel/tourism?

I’m guessing Phoenix is more pleasant in December than in August, but what about Monument Valley—and especially Moab—and the road conditions?

The catch is we probably won’t have received our international driving permits in time. After some research, we still can’t figure out if there are any rental companies that only require a French license... or possibly a certified translation of it.
