Voilà, sinon j’ai aussi quelques petites questions : Q1 : Pour la location de voiture, doit-on plutôt louer un 4*4, un toyota condor (ou équiv), une berline classique, un scooter ou un éléphant. Pour le Cap je sais qu’une voiture type golf suffit mais je me pose des questions surtout pour le reste (Lesotho, Drakensberg et parcs animaliers). Q2 : Quelqu’un a-t-il l’idée du coût d’une journée organisée par un TO local pour faire une excursion d’une journée Victoria falls-Chobe-Victoria falls ? Q3 : J’ai préféré intégrer une journée au Royal Natal plutôt qu’à Golden Gate ou encore à Giant’s Castel…dois-je changer d’avis ? Q4 : Pour être à proximité de Blyde River Canyon, où dormir ? Q5 : Si vous estimez que l’itinéraire est trop ambitieux (hélas je crois que c’est le cas mais j’ai trop de mal à me raisonner !) quelle(s) coupe(s) vous effectueriez en sachant que les chutes Victoria sont pour nous un incontournable. Q6 : Selon vus, mieux vaut faire le trajet dans le sens Le Cap vers Victoria falls ou l’inverse ? (ou peu importe !) Q7 : Pensez vous que je me pose trop de questions ? (là je sais pas pourquoi mais j’ai une idée de la réponse !)

Voilà, je sais que certains regretteront que nous n’ayons pas inscrit le parc du pilanesberg, Kapama, Timbavati PR et d’autres points dans le parcours mais le parcours est déjà bien (trop) compact.

We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary. Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between: - The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc. - The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...

My last stay in SF ended badly for me (diabetes flare-up, hospitalization after returning to France), but my wife insists on SF and places we haven’t seen yet... so I’ve decided to skip the big parks and head for some offbeat spots instead... So, SF, then south to the crossroads where James Dean died. No luck—roadworks everywhere, impossible to stop—but I’d noted we could check out the San Andreas Fault near Parkfield and its bar before heading to Bakersfield.

I’m looking for participants to form a group of 5 to 6 people for a safari in Tanzania during the dry season in January or even February 2026. There are already two of us. This period is ideal for the Great Migration (when animals cross into Kenya, including wildebeest and zebras, with predators like lions around).

Duration: about one week. A 13-day option is available, but it’s more expensive.

Approximate price: 3500 € (flights included).

You can either go through an agency (local or not) or directly contact a guide (like the SO GUIDES association, for example). I have a contact with a guide who has received very positive reviews.

I won’t go into all the details yet. The first step is to form a group so we can negotiate with a provider. After that, we’ll communicate and make decisions together.

**8-DAY/7-NIGHT WILD ADVENTURE SAFARI**

**Day 1: ARRIVAL AND TRANSFER** Welcome at Kilimanjaro Airport and transfer to Arusha. Overnight at Green Mountain Hotel (breakfast included).

**Day 2: HIKE ON THE TRAILS OF KILIMANJARO** Pickup from your hotel in Arusha to Moshi Materuni village at the foot of Kilimanjaro. Start a day hike to the impressive waterfalls in one of the country’s highest regions, where glacial, crystal-clear water cascades from 70 meters high. The beautiful trail leads to Materuni Waterfalls at 2,500 meters altitude. To reach them, you’ll cross valleys and hills covered in tropical forest, coffee, avocado, and banana plantations. On clear days, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of Kibo, Kilimanjaro’s highest peak. You’ll also learn how to prepare and taste coffee. In the evening, return to Arusha for an overnight stay at Green Mountain Hotel.

**Day 3: HIKE IN A MAASAI VILLAGE** After breakfast around 8:30 AM, you’ll be picked up from your hotel for a walking safari in the wild village. Visit local primary schools, meet traditional healers, and learn about their techniques. You’ll also visit one of the local livestock markets. Dinner and overnight at the Maasai village Boma house.

**Day 4: WILDLIFE IN 4X4 ALONG THE TARANGIRE RIVER** Around 8 AM, pickup from your hotel in Arusha for a 2-hour drive to Tarangire National Park for a day of wildlife viewing. The park is famous for its dense wildlife along the Tarangire River. It’s home to a large number of elephants in the northern circuit and over 550 bird species. You’ll also spot herds of impalas, hartebeests, wildebeests, kudus, oryxes, gerenuks, zebras, buffaloes, and giraffes. Predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas are also present, along with massive African baobabs. Dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara Fig Tree Lodge.

**Day 5: LAKE MANYARA PARK – WILDLIFE VIEWING IN THE RIFT VALLEY** Around 8 AM, depart from your camp to Lake Manyara Park (at the foot of a 600-meter escarpment in the Great Rift Valley) for a day of safaris. You’ll see giraffes, buffaloes, baboon troops, tree-climbing lions, and many other animals. Dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara Fig Tree Lodge.

**Day 6: WILDLIFE IN SERENGETI** In the morning, drive for 5 hours to the stunning Serengeti National Park, passing through the Olduvai Gorge archaeological site. This park is arguably the world’s most famous wildlife reserve, home to over 3 million large mammals. You’ll quickly spot the “Big Five”: buffaloes, elephants, black rhinos in the Moru Kopjes, lions, and leopards. Over 500 bird species have been recorded here. You’ll also witness the spectacular wildebeest migration in the western Serengeti. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Nyani Camp.

**Day 7: MAGNIFICENT SUNRISE SAFARI IN SERENGETI** Enjoy a stunning sunrise safari in the golden savanna of the Serengeti’s endless plains, all day long, following the animals’ movements. Spend the night at the camp and share your incredible experience so far at Serengeti Nyani Camp.

**Day 8: MAJESTIC EXCURSION IN THE SERENGETI PLAINS** Wake up at 6 AM for coffee at the camp, then head out for a sunrise safari in the Serengeti. Our guide will take you to the best spots to admire the sunrise and observe predators, as many of them, like lions, are most active at this time of day. Return to camp around 10 AM for brunch, then load your belongings into the jeep for a 2-hour safari en route to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Simba Lodge.

**Day 9: SPECTACULAR EXCURSION TO NGORONGORO CRATER** Shortly after breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a sunrise safari in the world’s largest uninterrupted caldera, surrounded by steep walls rising 610 meters from the crater floor. This natural wonder is 19.2 km in diameter and covers 304 km². You’ll explore the area on safari and spot rare species like black rhinos, wildebeests, giraffes, ostriches, bustards, lions, cheetahs, and flamingos in the Soda Lake. In the afternoon, return to Arusha, arriving in the evening for your private activities.

**RATES:** The package price is 1,800 USD per person in a double room. Since the guide doesn’t handle flight tickets, we’ll need to arrange those ourselves.

I booked a round-trip to NYC (Newark) from 10/17 to 11/01, 2025 at a good price. Now I need to figure out what to do 😎

The initial idea was to go to Nashville. Why? I don’t really know. For info, we’ve already been to NYC and Washington D.C.

That said, I opened an Excel sheet and put this together:

D1: Arrival at Newark around 9 PM. Pick up car and overnight near the airport D2/3: Philadelphia D4: Lancaster (Amish Village) then drive to Shenandoah NP. Overnight in the northern part of the park (Front Royal?) D5: Scenic road - Overnight in Charlottesville D6: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Troutville D7: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Boone D8: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Asheville D9: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Gatlinburg D10: Smoky Mountains - Overnight in Gatlinburg

That’s where things get tricky.

If I add 2 nights in Nashville, it really tightens up the end of the trip in terms of mileage.

I thought about doing:

But honestly, I’m not happy with the end.

So I thought about adding Gettysburg by adjusting things and shortening D4, which I felt was too packed: D1: Arrival at Newark around 9 PM. So, on these rainy days, I’m finally getting around to writing a little travel journal about the Drakensberg.

The Dragon Mountains, known as uKhahlamba in Zulu and Maluti in Sotho or Tswana.

Roughly speaking, we can break it down into: * The far north in the Free State at Golden Gate NP (managed by Sanparks, while the rest is run by KZN Wildlife). * Royal Natal National Park with the Amphitheatre, Sentinel Peak, and its famous "hike" (which I won’t talk about since I’ve never been there—it’s still on my to-do list!). * Cathedral Peak and Didima * Monk's Cowl * Giant's Castle * Hihghmoor and Kamberg * Sani Pass (which I haven’t visited in ages and won’t cover here).

Highlands Mountain Retreat is the place to stay in Golden Gate if you can snag it. When the weather’s nice, the view is absolutely incredible—probably the most beautiful I’ve ever seen in South Africa!

Just a heads-up: it’s stunning but high up and cold, even *very* cold. The bungalows are cozy, and the little road leading there is charming. The park offers hikes ranging from easy to tough, but be warned—the maps are... not very clear or reliable, and we ended up on an endless, exhausting trek. There are plenty of animals (mostly antelopes, so not super diverse in terms of wildlife), hikes as mentioned... game drives on a paved road, and various walks. You feel remote but aren’t *that* far from civilization.

We’re traveling as a family to South Africa for the first time in July (two parents and our four young adult children). We’ve planned a loop starting from Port Elizabeth for 13 days, followed by another loop from Johannesburg with 2 days at Blyde River Canyon and 5 days in Kruger NP.

We’re wondering about the Port Elizabeth loop. Here’s our initial idea: Day 1: Early arrival in Port Elizabeth, morning walk in Tsitsikamma NP, night at Storm River Rest Camp. Day 2: Continue visiting Tsitsikamma NP early in the morning, then Robberg Nature Reserve, night at Ebb and Flow Rest Camp. Day 3: Visit the Wilderness area, night at Ebb and Flow Rest Camp. Day 4: Drive to Hermanus. Several options: Bontebok NP or The Hoop and Cape Agulhas; night in Hermanus. Day 5: Coastal trail, boat trip (?), night in Cape Town. Day 6: Table Mountain, Bo-Kaap, Waterfront; night in Cape Town. Day 7: Cape Peninsula, night in Cape Town. Day 8: Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden, Matjiesfontein; night in the area. Day 9: AM: Karoo NP; night in Beaufort West. Day 10: Karoo NP; night in Beaufort West. Day 11: AM: Camdeboo NP; night in Graaff-Reinet. Day 12: Morning: Camdeboo NP; drive to Addo Elephant NP; visit depending on arrival time; night at Addo Elephant Rest Camp. Day 13: Addo Elephant NP; night in Port Elizabeth. Day 14: Early flight.

Does this seem balanced and suitable for July? It’s quite packed, but we’ve already had to skip quite a bit. Initially, would it be better to spend 2 nights in Tsitsikamma and just one in Wilderness? Or just one night at each to free up a day for something else?

For the car, is a minivan enough, or should we plan at least an SUV for the parks given the season?

Hi everyone, We’ve made up our minds—this summer, we’re heading back to the USA. Our last trip to the American West was in 2017. Back then, I planned my itinerary with help from this forum, and it was perfect. I’ve drawn inspiration from a few travel journals and some really interesting websites to sketch out a rough route. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this itinerary. Let me know if I’ve missed any cool stops along the way or if some things seem unnecessary. I’m planning a self-drive trip to Tanzania (either September or October).

This route won’t include any of the usual parks you hear about everywhere (too expensive, too crowded, too touristy).

The idea is to explore Tanzania more for its landscapes, beaches, and hiking. A little wildlife spotting, sure, but that’s not the main goal.

Here’s the itinerary I’m considering:

Nous projetons de partir en Namibie du 23 juin au 13 juillet 2021 (à confirmer en fonction des vols) avec nos deux filles qui auront 16 et 13 ans 1/2. L'idée est de le faire en 4*4 avec tentes sur le toit pour profiter au maximum des grands espaces et de couper un peu avec des lodges et guest farms. Je ne sais pas encore à quelle fréquence. Peut-être prendre un lodge quand le camping n'apporte pas de plus value pour profiter du cadre.

Les itinéraires se ressemblent avec quelques petites différences. il faut déjà que je revois le combiné campsite / lodges car après réflexion je trouve que cela fait bcp de nuits en lodges, alors qu'on loue un 4*4 équipé camping. Tous les deux ans se retrouvent dans un endroit du monde tous les clans écossais dispersés sur notre terre, pour une grande fête internationale. Il y a deux ans c’était en Ecosse (pratique pour nous mais nous étions en Russie). Cette année, c’est à Colorado Springs fin juin. Nous avons nos billets d’avions, la réservation d’hôtel à Colorado Springs et la location de voiture. Nous allons rester 15 jours, finissant le séjour à la fête écossaise. Nous arrivons à Denver et nous voudrions faire un p’tit tour sans cavaler. J’ai lu et lu et lu avec le moteur de recherche et j’ai tant lu que j’en ai les yeux explosés ! Et pourtant je ne suis pas plus avancée ! Alors, si l’une ou l’un de vous avez le temps et l’envie de m’aider. Quel voyage en partant de Denver pour arriver 11 jours plus tard à Colorado Springs ? Absolument pas habituée à L’Amérique du Nord, nos derniers voyages remontent à plus de trente ans, je ne sais que voir… Merci pour votre patience si vous me donnez quelques points et si personne ne me répond, ce n’est pas grave nous irons le nez au vent.

J'ai mis à jour mon programme concernant Yellowstone en Juin 2020 suite à la fermeture de certains tronçon et j'aurai aimé vos avis là dessus. Les hôtels sont déjà réservés.

Merci encore à Martine (Marcalamar) et aux différentes personnes qui postent leurs carnets ou avis sur le forum, ce qui m'a permis de détailler pas mal les zones.

Nous arrivons de Great falls le jour 1 avec pause déjeuner à Livingston donc pas sur Mammoth avant 15H. Je ne sais pas la deadline le soir pour le check-in mais vu que celui-ci semble à partir de 16H30, je pense le faire en fin de journée après les activités prévues.

Jour 1: - TOWER FALLS - CALCITE SPRINGS OVERLOOK - LAMAR VALLEY (Jusqu'à Trout Lake Trailhead? Ou cela vaut il le coup de pousser jusqu'à Cooke city?)

Retour à Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel & Cabins pour la nuit.

Les mois ont passé…. Ma demande en mariage à Dirty Devil Overlook (vers Hanksville, au fin fond de l’Utah) un soir de juin 2017, s’est concrétisée.... "Chérie", ma dame est devenue Madame.

C'était un voyage sensationnel, le meilleur. A peine rentrés, on savait qu'on repartirait...et le plus rapidement possible. Un mariage à organiser, la vente de la maison, l'acquisition d'une autre, un an de travaux et l'arrivée d'Utah notre Border Collie.... Voilà le contexte... (ce qui explique la longue absence sur VF et le délai pour s'occuper du carnet 😉)

Mais premier point noir: Au moment du peaufinage du roadbook, les USA sont plongés en plein Shutdown. Et ça dure, ça dure. …On suit alors ça de ‘’près’’. Le shutdown le plus long de l’histoire à ce jour s’est terminé 5 semaines avant le départ… Or le programme était de partir de Phoenix/ Tucson Saguaro NP/ Organ mountain / White Sands / Bisti Badlands / Canyon de Chelly / Painted desert / Walnut canyon / Grand Canyon avec boucle South kaibab Bright Angel / Sedona 4 nuits / puis retour Phoenix. Donc une grosse dominante de parcs nationaux cette année et peu de Wilderness; donc des coins potentiellement fermés et peu de plan B proches. Pas envie de prendre le risque si l’épisode reprend.

Deuxième point noir : quelques semaines avant le départ, double ernie discale et méchant lumbago lors des travaux dans la nouvelle maison. Arrêt de travail, kiné, ostéo, massages, etc. Grosse incertitude sur la capacité de partir, à tenir 10 heures dans l’avion, à pouvoir randonner… bref le doute domine.

Troisième point noir : Il nous est désormais impossible pour des raisons professionnelles de partir entre avril et septembre. Or en vérifiant la météo avant le départ (longtemps avant !!), la météo est détraquée dans le Southwest. Il fait anormalement froid….. et ça dure. Sauf vers Phoenix et Tucson où la météo est correcte.

Tous ces éléments nous font modifier le parcours peu de temps avant de partir. D’autres hôtels sont alors réservés, tout en gardant le plan A au cas où une éclaircie pointerait le bout de son nez…

Une chose est sûre, on part pour une boucle au départ de Phoenix, pour randonner en Arizona... A suivre ...

Hello les amis, Je suis à la recherche de choses à voir et activités de grand air à faire entre la Géorgie, le Tennessee et l'Alabama... J'ai déjà parcouru pas mal de guides et de sites, mais j'avoue ne pas être super emballé pour le moment... Je précise que les musées c'est vraiment pas mon trip. Je préfère une bonne rando VTT ou Kayak, une ballade sur une belle plage, la découverte d'un lieu insolite. Des lieux cultes (déjà repéré Graceland et L'hotel loraine... Ouais je sais j'en demande beaucoup et je ne pense pas que ce type de destination soit très courue. Mais je tente ma chance. Je prends toute idée originale 😉 Sinon, je ferais comme d'hab, zéro préparation, 100% AVENTURE 😎

Je souhaiterai savoir si vous avez des campings à recommander ? comment répartir les nuits dans les différents endroits ? (3 nuit à banff, 3 à jasper, 3 à lake louise ?) faut il pousser jusqu'aux parcs alentours (yoho, gray, etc) ?

Je serais au Pérou pendant 20 jours à partir du 14 septembre 2020, dont 4 jours à Arequipa, probablement à partir du 15 octobre 2020( jour pas tout à fait décidée). Je cherche un guide avec groupe ou en privé pour faire pendant ces 4 jours les ascencions du Misti et du Chachani.
