Accommodation in Ha Giang loop
Hi everyone,
In November, we’re planning to do the Ha Giang loop and the RC4 by motorbike without a guide. 😎 We’re looking for a decent place to stay/rent in Ha Giang.
If anyone has any info, we’d be really interested.

Road trip in Kenya: 4x4 or regular car?
Hi everyone,
I’m planning a road trip in Kenya and I’m wondering about renting a vehicle. I’d like to know if a 4x4 is really necessary if I book safaris directly through the lodges in the reserves. If I only need a vehicle for long trips (e.g., Nairobi->Masai Mara and Masai Mara->Amboseli, then later to Mombasa), is it worth renting a 4x4?
Thanks in advance for your feedback—I’m not sure about the road conditions here! !

Flight ticket never received (eDreams)
Hi there,
Hi, I just bought a flight ticket on eDreams. My account was debited, but I haven’t received the tickets. I checked my spam folder, but no luck. Could you provide me with a contact number or a link to their site so I can file a complaint? Alternatively, if anyone has a solution, I’d be interested in getting a refund. I contacted my bank, but since the amount has already been debited, what can they do? Thanks in advance!

Traffic fine budget for Morocco
Hi there, if you're planning to rent a car to get around in Morocco, make sure to budget for "fines" even if you drive perfectly. For example, getting caught going 5 km/h over the speed limit 500 meters before you see the sign dropping the limit to 60 km/h—while being overtaken by a packed taxi with no seatbelts. Or, say, stopping at a stop sign for 3 seconds but not long enough, even though no helmetless motorcyclists were stopping either (yes, helmets are mandatory in Morocco)... Anyway, plan a "fine" budget for your Moroccan "vacation."
Traveling to the Netherlands with an expired French ID card that has extended validity
Hi there,
The Netherlands is one of the countries that hasn’t officially taken a position on accepting French ID cards with extended validity (+5 years). However, it seems to be tolerated, and it’s recommended to carry the explanatory notice about the law that extended the validity of ID cards—especially in case of a police check during your stay in the Netherlands. The main concern seems to be about legal status in the country. Air France (apparently) indicates that boarding is possible. Has anyone had experience traveling by plane under these conditions, and can someone confirm whether it’s possible to visit the Netherlands (by plane with Air France) with an expired French ID card (based on the date printed on it) but with validity extended by 5 years? It’s hard to get a definitive answer, which is why I’m asking fellow travelers for their experiences :) Thanks in advance for your feedback! Audrey

International Driving Permit
Hi there.
I’m planning a getaway to Bali at the end of September. I’m a bit late applying for the international driving permit through the official site. Someone told me about https://international-permit.com/en-us. Is it reliable?

90-Day Visa Extension in Thailand
Hello,
We’re leaving in November 2025 for a stay of more than 60 days in Khao Lak and need to apply for a 30-day extension on-site to be allowed to stay nearly 90 days. Should we declare the flight ticket dates (November 13, 2025, to February 9, 2026) directly on the electronic form (if it’s applied from May 1st) before leaving, at the risk of being denied entry (over 60 days), or declare 60 days and quickly apply for a 30-day extension once there? Are flight tickets checked upon arrival (Phuket) or earlier on the electronic entry request? I remember that the arrival check is quite "serious" and after 18 hours of travel, you’re pretty impressionable! Thanks for your help, Best, Bruno.

Drinking water and cash in the United States
Hi there,
- Is tap water safe to drink everywhere in the U.S., or do you prefer bottled water?
- How do you handle money?
★ Is cash preferred and more commonly used than card payments?
★ For ATM withdrawals, what are the fees? I’ve read that bank ATMs have lower fees than those in some stores—is that true?
★ Is the cashback trick used in the U.S. (e.g., for a $100 purchase, you pay $150, and the cashier gives you $50 in cash)?
Thanks in advance to U.S. experts for your tips!
Where to go in Nepal in April to avoid the haze?
Hi there,
I’ve been in Nepal for a week now, still in the Kathmandu Valley, after two months in India.
I’m discovering the haze problem in the valleys (Kathmandu, Pokhara), which I hadn’t anticipated at all. It’s really frustrating not to see any peaks.
I was planning to go to Jomsom and also do the Poonhill Trek from Pokhara, but I’m not even sure if it’ll be clear there.
Without going to high altitude or doing a long trek, is there a place where I might have a chance of seeing the mountain panoramas?
Thanks for your help!

Driving across Thailand off the beaten path
Hi there.
We’d like to drive across Thailand from Bangkok to the north of the country by car, in several stages, far from the beaten track.
Could anyone give us some tips on this kind of trip?
Thanks so much, Laurent and Marie
Communication difficulties with Sanparks
Hi there, I made my bungalow reservations in Kruger Park through Sanparks. I’ve sent several emails but never gotten a response from them. It’s not possible to reach them via WhatsApp, and calling them costs an arm and a leg 😱. Have you had the same experience with Sanparks? Their website is pretty well done—they boast about giving the best care to questions people ask them, but when it comes to email responses... it’s a ghost town 😕
B2 Visa for two stays of less than 6 months
Hello everyone,
We’re planning a family trip (my wife and our two kids) for 12–13 months in 2026–2027.
The idea is to start our journey by biking across the U.S. from July to December 2026. We’re thinking of leaving our bikes there and then traveling by public transport for 3 months in Central America down to Belize (during the U.S. winter). After that, we’d return to the U.S. and finish our trip by bike for about 4 more months.
We’ll need to apply for a B2 visa, but we’ve heard the conditions are for a 6-month stay. Depending on the border officers’ discretion, we *might* be allowed to re-enter the U.S. if we’ve left for a non-contiguous country for a while (which would be our case since we’d go as far as Belize). Has anyone here confirmed this? Have you been in this situation before, and is there a chance we might not be allowed back into the U.S. after leaving at the end of 2026?
Another question about the B2 visa interview. We’ve read it’s best to be transparent with the officer. Should we mention our full plan (including the trip to Belize and return to the U.S.), or should we only talk about the first part?
Thanks so much for your experiences and advice!

Cost of living in New York
Hi everyone,
I’ve traveled to New York quite a bit, but not in about 10 years. All my colleagues who’ve been recently tell me that the cost of living has become outrageous.
What’s the situation really like?
For hotels, I checked the usual sites, and it does seem a bit expensive but not unaffordable—if you avoid the various "peak" periods (and there are a lot of them...).
Anyway, the prices seem roughly on par with Paris, at least for accommodation in Manhattan.
But what I’ve heard is that restaurants are almost unaffordable for "regular" budgets.
By unaffordable, I mean around $50 per person (as soon as you want a drink with your meal).
Thanks to any forum members who’ve been recently for shedding some light on this.
Long live VoyageForum.
Marseille - New York with a one-hour layover in London
Hi there,
We're leaving next month from Marseille to New York with a layover at London Heathrow.
We have a one-hour layover—I was wondering if that’s enough time for the connection. We arrive at Terminal 3 and depart from Terminal 3.
Thanks for your replies!
Any tips for cheaper flight tickets?

What are the criteria that make you choose one destination over another?
Hi there,
The title might be a bit long, but I hope it’s completely understandable!
When it comes to choosing your next trip, what tips the scales in favor of Eritrea over Ibiza?
Why pick Canada over French Polynesia?
The price? A magazine or TV report, a travel journal, an Instagram ad? Ease of travel? Minimal time difference? The country that has the most in common with all the trip participants? Activities? Relaxation? The desire to push your limits?
A photo?

What else, I wonder...
Personally, I often prioritize simple destinations (no administrative hassles), where I’m not at risk (nothing extraordinary like getting kidnapped by Daesh or ending up in a jail cell because the current geopolitics aren’t favorable to my passport, etc.), and where I can drive.
Wide-open natural spaces are more my thing than urban anthills.
Finally, I try not to spend three days on a plane to reach my destination, and I aim for a maximum budget of 3500 € (for 3 weeks) in comfortable conditions—that means charming hotels, good meals, etc.
What about you?🙂

Looking for friends and future travel companions in Bordeaux
Hi, I’d like to meet new people in Bordeaux to plan future trips to Japan, Israel, and the United States. I’m also hoping to find opportunities to practice Japanese and English, pick up some basics in Hebrew, and connect with interesting folks.
8 days in Bulgaria: what to see and do for an amateur photographer?
Hi everyone,
So, I’m heading to Bulgaria this September. I’ll be based in Varna and plan to rent a car for a few days. I don’t know Bulgaria at all, so I’ve got everything to learn about this country.
I’m an amateur photographer, so I’d love to take some great landscape shots (sea or mountains) as well as photos of picturesque little villages... I’m open to all kinds of tips, and thanks in advance for reading!
Best regards, Patrice

Cambodia E-visa Problem
Hi there,
We’re heading to Southeast Asia for several months as a family with two teens (10 and 13). The first country we’re visiting is Cambodia. I’m having an issue with the e-visa—it won’t accept any of the documents I’m attaching. I’ve validated all four e-visas and received the registration numbers, but when I check the application, it shows no attachments. I’ve tried multiple times in different formats (PDF, JPEG, PNG), whether compressed or not, but there’s always a red cross next to the documents.
Has anyone else run into this problem?
Thanks for your help—I’m losing patience, and our departure is in 15 DAYS 😕

Planning a family road trip from New York to Montreal
Hi there,
I’d like to plan a family road trip (2 adults, 2 kids aged 14 and 11) next summer, starting in New York and ending in Montreal.
Here’s my rough itinerary:
Arrival in New York: 4 nights
Train to Boston: 2 nights
Car rental, then off to Cape Cod: 2 nights
Head to Acadia Park: 2 nights
On to Quebec City: 2 nights
Tadoussac: 2 nights
Saguenay region/Lac Saint-Jean: 2 nights
Montreal: 2 nights
Departure from Montreal.
Could you share some ideas for places to stay, eat, visit, whale watching, lobster feasts, etc.?
Also, about the car rental: picking up in the US and dropping off in Canada—any tips?
Would it be easier to fly round-trip from Lyon to Montreal and drive to NY instead?
Thanks for your feedback!
Trip to Crete: renting a car and other questions
Hello,
We’re planning to spend a week in Crete soon. We’ve read that renting a car is a must. We’ll be landing in Heraklion.
We’re used to traveling modestly, hiking, and wandering around in rather bucolic spots.
We’d love to hear any tips or experiences that might match our travel style.
Thanks in advance!
Françoise and Jean-Pierre
What should we prioritize during a layover in Montreal?
Hi there,
I’ve got a layover in Montreal with my daughter for over 10 hours—we land at 12:30.
I’d love to get out and explore for a few hours. Any tips on how to get around to the must-see spots, and what to visit even if it’s just a short time? We’ve got a few hours to spare.
Also, if any locals are up for showing us around (happy to pay for your time, of course), that’d be amazing.
Thanks so much!

How to travel from Mexico to Costa Rica by ferry?
Hi there,
I’m looking for a ferry or Ro-Ro passage for my vehicle and two passengers from Mexico to Costa Rica. I haven’t found anything online. If you know of any regular routes, I’d love to hear about them!

Different countries for entry and exit: will Thai immigration accept it?
Good evening and best travel wishes to everyone.
I’m leaving soon for a two-month road trip in Southeast Asia.
Arriving in Bangkok on January 14th, returning from Ho Chi Minh City on March 13th.
I don’t have an exit ticket from Thailand because I’d like to keep some flexibility in my itinerary.
Do you think my return ticket from Vietnam will be enough to prove that I’ll have left Thai territory within 60 days of my entry?
I hope I won’t run into any issues boarding at Roissy or at immigration once I’m in BKK.
What do you think?
Thanks for your help.

Where to start planning an Antarctica excursion?
Hi everyone,
I’ve been thinking about an Antarctica trip for a while now and it really appeals to me, but I’m not sure how to start my research. First off, is it better to leave from Chile or Argentina (assuming we’re not departing from France)? Is it more reassuring to travel on a large ship or a medium-sized one? What aspects should I check (total number of days, number of excursions, well-known vs. lesser-known companies, local agencies, etc.)? What are the must-sees I shouldn’t miss, and what’s unnecessary? Thanks for sharing your experiences! Best, Dominique

Leaving during a layover at Charles de Gaulle
Hi everyone, I have to leave for Canada and I’ve got a layover at Paris CDG. A friend of mine will be at the airport to see me. What are the options for us to meet up? Can she access my terminal (T2E), or can I leave the international zone?
Kyushu between Fukuoka and Nagasaki in autumn 2024 (Japan)
Fellow travelers,
Don’t they say "never two without three"? It seems so. Here I am again on the forum to share—and let’s be honest, indulge a bit of selfish pleasure—by recounting the story of this third installment in the Land of the Rising Sun.
Where? It’s all in the title. On the island of Kyushu in southern Japan, more precisely in the northwest between Fukuoka and Nagasaki. I hope to take you along with me for 19 nights and 18 full days this autumn of 2024. On the itinerary: gastronomy, crafts, festivals, waterfalls, encounters, and leisurely strolls in all simplicity.
A last-minute flight booked just 7 days before departure, and the route evolved regularly based on whims and accommodation availability, eventually settling on this:
- 5 nights in Fukuoka: Fukuoka city, Ukiha, Itoshima, Dazaifu, Yanagawa - 4 nights in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture: Okawachiyama, Arita, Takeo, Kashima, Yobuko, Karatsu, Kabeshima - 6 nights in Nagasaki: Ureshino, Higashi-Sonogi, Nagasaki city, Unzen, Sotome - 4 nights in Fukuoka: Karatsu, Fukuoka city
Most of the trip was done by car for practical reasons—easier access to certain places and freedom of movement—but also for the sheer joy of it. Despite slow traffic at times, driving in rural Japan is a delight.
If the program interests you, see you soon for the start of the journey.
