Trip with “assistance” – we just got back from a Brest/BKK round-trip in business class with Air France, and the assistance went really smoothly, both in PAR and BKK. But at an outrageous price: over 4,000 € per person. Next time, in November, we’re going with Thaiways, departing from PAR.

Question: if I book Brest/PAR with Air France and then BKK with Thai, will the assistance system still work between the two airlines?

I asked two agencies to put together a circuit with transfers, hotels, organized visits, and one domestic flight. I don’t speak Spanish or Portuguese. 6 nights in Rio 3 nights on Ilha Grande 3 nights in Paraty Domestic flight to Salvador for 3 nights 3 nights in Morro de São Paulo 1 night in Salvador before flying back to France. For this itinerary, I’m going with Tourlane, but I’m still waiting on the second quote from Comptoir des Voyages. 1) In the Faroe Islands, you pay in Danish kroner—that’s clear—and mostly by card. But there are also Faroese kronur, and I’d love to bring some back. Are they available at ATMs? There don’t seem to be any real exchange bureaus in the capital.

2) The Faroe Islands aren’t part of the EU roaming agreement. Local SIM cards are supposedly available everywhere, but does anyone have an idea of prices or an operator to recommend?

I’m renting a car in Bulgaria using my "Gold Mastercard." I know the benefits, and in this case, I don’t need to take out additional insurance from the rental company.

However, the assistance booklet states: "The insurer cannot, under any circumstances, reimburse the insured for the amount of the CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) or LDW (Loss Damage Waiver) insurance paid to the rental company if the insured forgot to decline it or if it’s automatically included in a package the insured accepted."

The issue is that when I look at different rental companies, it’s often specified that "insurance is included" (non-declinable because it’s part of the package), and I’m worried there might be some minimal CDW or LDW coverage that would prevent my Gold Mastercard coverage from applying if needed.

Since it’s difficult to contact or communicate with rental companies (most bookings are made online) and Mastercard’s responses are pretty vague, I’m turning to you all for help.

Here are my questions: - How can I be sure the rental company’s insurance doesn’t include CDW or LDW? - Do you know of any rental companies where this is clearly stated? - Does Gold Mastercard coverage work with local agencies? - Is it possible for a rental company to refuse Gold Mastercard coverage?

Hi there, here are some practical details that might help you plan a future trip to Québec-Ontario. 3 weeks as a couple from September 21 to October 15, 2024. Flight: Lyon-Montreal with Air Transat, 850 €.

Accommodation: We only booked the first two nights at a hotel in Montreal. After that, we reserved the day before or even the same afternoon for the next night, going with the flow of the trip. No availability issues—there are plenty of motels. Expect to pay around 80-100 € per night, as accommodation is pricey. -Car rental: Booked with Authentik/Thrifty for 760 € for 20 days. Pick-up at the downtown branch, drop-off at the airport. Smooth, quick, and the staff were great. The car was recent. We got extra insurance through SereniZen. We drove about 5,000 km, and gas was less than 1 € per liter. -Food: Quick note—it’s expensive and not great. -Health: Medical costs seem very high, so on top of credit card insurance, we were advised to get extra coverage. We went with Heymondo. -Tap water is drinkable everywhere. -SIM card: 4GB with unlimited calls for 1 month, 17 €. -Our favorite spots for fall colors: the Eastern Townships, Algonquin Park, and Mont Tremblant. We’d love some info and feedback on bus routes to get to Coyhaique: Buenos Aires to Comodoro (which we’ve found pretty easily so far), or Buenos Aires to Bariloche (same, there are buses).

Hello, This summer, a kayaking expedition in Spitsbergen will attempt to reach the 80th parallel north, which is practically the northern tip of the island. We're looking for crew members. No need to be an experienced kayaker—navigating a sea kayak is within everyone's reach. This trip mainly requires good physical condition: in addition to paddling, setting up and taking down camp is energy-intensive, and there are also night watches (it will be daylight all the time) to guard against polar bears. You also need to be comfortable with isolation (3 weeks) and the unpredictability, especially the weather, of such a journey.

The expedition is organized by the agency Grand Nord Grand Large. All the details are on their website. I should mention that I have no affiliation with this agency, but this trip has already been postponed twice due to insufficient participants, and I’d really like it to happen this time. I’ve kayaked in the Arctic before, both in Spitsbergen and Greenland, but this is an exceptional adventure.
