Est-ce qu'il faut un visa pour aller en Indonésie?

Bonjour Nous partons du 23 juillet au 10 aout pour Bali (11j) et Lombock (5j) j'ai bien étudié tous vos messages et j'ai préparé un itinéraire suivant vos indications, merci à tous, mais il me reste quelques questions : Quelqu'un pourrait-il me conseiller sur la meilleur façon de rejoindre Lombock, soit par Padangbai en ferry, soit par Benoa en hydroptère, entre ces 2, quelles sont les différences en temps et en prix? et autres ? faut-il retenir ses places la veille ou au moment du départ, y a t-il toujours de la place ou bien y a til des heures à éviter? j'ai pas trop envie d'y aller en avion, mais y a t-il un intérêt (prix, temps ?) quant-on arrive sur Lombock, le plus sympa : moto, bémo ou voiture afin de faire le tour de l'ile ? et une ch'ite dernière, nous espérons passer quelques jours sur Gili Air, vaut-il mieux réserver des chambres ou cela n'est pas nécessaire? bien sur si vous avez d'autres conseils de tout ordre à me donner je prend...... merci d'avance à tous ceux qui voudront bien m'aider

This September, my partner and I are heading to North Sulawesi for 3 weeks. Our international flight is with Malaysia Airlines, departing from Paris. We have a layover in KL, then fly to Denpasar, followed by a domestic flight from Denpasar to Manado. We land in Bali Denpasar on 05/09 around 12:00 PM, and our flight to Manado is on 07/09 at 1:30 AM. The plan was to have at least one night (from the 5th to the 6th of September) between our international flight and our flight to Manado, just to recharge a bit since we're not 20 anymore 😛. My question is, given the very short stop in Bali (a day and a half), is it better to stay in Denpasar rather than go to Ubud for the night? I’ve been to Bali before, and from what I remember, even though the distances are short, transfers take a long time because of the extremely heavy traffic—but I was there in July, not September. I’m not sure if that makes a big difference? If the answer is "it’s better to stay in Denpasar," are there any nice places to visit? There’s very little feedback about the city since tourists usually don’t stick around. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi there, We're planning our trip to Indonesia and want to take the boat to get from Bali (Padangbai) to Lombok (Senggigi). We found a ticket via the 12go.asia website with EKAJAYA Fast Company. From what I understand, the baggage weight limit is 20 kg per person for the boat. However, we’ll have 2 checked suitcases (from our flight) that should weigh around 30 kg since that’s the max allowed due to our diving gear, etc. Do they actually weigh the luggage? What happens if our bags exceed the weight limit? Extra charge? Have any of you dealt with this situation before?

Hi there, we're planning our vacation in Indonesia. We're a family with two kids aged 11 and 14. We leave on July 26th and return on August 17th, 2026.

We initially planned to visit Bali, Komodo, and Flores, but after looking into it more, we came across Sumatra, which is less touristy... a real plus for us. However, skipping Bali might be a shame.

I was wondering if spending 12 days in Sumatra and finishing with about 7 days in Bali is a doable plan.

I’m leaving between December 15 and 20, 2025, for about three months, with a first stop in Bali—but as short as possible because it’s way too touristy 😅

I’d like to head to the Moluccas Islands via East Timor. And also see what comes up along the way—Lombok, Gili, Flores… As this little route unfolds, nothing’s set in stone or booked in advance 😊

The advantage of Timor and the Moluccas is that the climate is different from the rest of Indonesia, so less rain.

Nothing’s fixed or booked ahead—just going with the flow, following encounters, everyone’s desires, and enjoying places that aren’t too touristy yet.

Beaches, snorkeling, hiking, and chilling out… Just enjoying life, really 😊

We’re a couple in our sixties and spent four weeks in Indonesia during October 2025.

First, we got all the necessary documents—Indonesian visa, Bali-specific visa, and customs forms—from specialized Indonesian websites. You *can* get them on arrival, but it takes a lot of time.

Unfortunately, we chose to spend the first six days of our trip in Ubud and Amed, on Bali, which we bitterly regretted. You can arrive in Indonesia without going through Bali—this island is overcrowded with tourists, cars, and scooters, and it’s home to 4,400,000 people despite being smaller than Corsica. The locals are very kind, helpful, and friendly, and the food is good, but everything is geared toward tourists—nothing feels truly authentic. At least in the parts of Bali we visited: Sanur in the south (where we spent three days before flying back to France), Ubud, and Amed. The north of the island might be more interesting, but we didn’t go there.

After Bali, we headed to Yogyakarta, on Java, to explore the city and, most importantly, visit the temples of Borobudur and Prambanan.

It’s like going from a hyper-touristy universe to a world with almost no tourists. When you walk around the city, you barely see any tourists—the people are very approachable and happy to chat. As for Borobudur and Prambanan, they’re an absolute must on this trip. You *can* visit both temples in one day, including seeing Borobudur at sunrise. We split the visits over two days. We booked Borobudur the day before on the official site, which offers specific visiting times. For Prambanan, we bought the ticket and hired a guide on-site.

We spent four days on Java before flying to Sulawesi, also called Celebes. Makassar, the island’s capital, was just a stopover between flights, but we had time to admire the beautiful new mosque at sunset. Then, we spent four days in Toraja country, another highlight of the trip, visiting cemeteries and attending a funeral ceremony with around 600 people near Rantepao. We experienced truly unique and extraordinary moments. Above Toraja country, a few hours’ drive away, lies the Bada Valley and its megaliths—the tallest is 4.8 meters high, and there are about fifteen scattered across the rice fields. We saw five of them. There were a few tourists in Toraja, but in Bada, we were alone. Unforgettable memories, stunning landscapes, and always-smiling, kind, approachable people.

To wrap up the trip, we spent five nights in the Togian Islands, north of the Bada Valley, alone in a resort with three bungalows. The view was a white-sand beach and the nearby coral reef, complete with colorful fish, turtles, dolphins, and sharks.

After eleven nights in Sulawesi, we returned to Bali. Our last nights were in Sanur, a beach town with all-inclusive hotels (we stayed in an Airbnb), restaurants serving beef bourguignon, and tourists who don’t really go to Indonesia—they just go to Bali.

Practical tip: download Grab, the local Uber—it’s super handy. This year, we opted for an eSIM, which is also very convenient. You can buy it in France and activate it when you arrive at the airport.

To secure that flight, we’re planning to spend our last two full days (actually 3 nights) in Bali. We’ve already visited Bali twice—first time 30 years ago and the second time 12 years ago—and we don’t want to revisit the must-see spots (and definitely not Ubud; I had a bit of a shock there 12 years ago). What could you recommend for activities and hotel locations? We’re looking for fairly exclusive experiences, not too physically demanding since we’re not as young as we used to be. We’ve read it all about Bali: mass tourism, non-stop parties, ferry disasters, the kingdom of “Instagrammers,” pollution, “Bali belly”... But luckily, this island isn’t just about Kuta’s beaches and the Lempuyang Temple.

Sure, it’s not as exotic or off-the-beaten-path as other Indonesian islands (the Moluccas, Timor, Flores...), but we spent 3 weeks there and loved it!

Our (planned) itinerary in 7 stops: - Ubud (4 nights) - Sidemen (2 nights) - Gili Meno (3 nights) - Amed (2 nights) - Pemuteran (4 nights) - Munduk (2 nights) - Jatiluwih (2 nights)



We booked our accommodations in advance, and for the rest (drivers, activities...), we took it day by day with help from the homestays (making sure to contact them a few days ahead via WhatsApp).

In the end, it’s an “easy” destination, very affordable, and one that’s managed to keep a certain authenticity.

Time to hit the road again!

Summer seems to be the best time weather-wise for Bali. And since summer’s when we can take a long trip, let’s go for Bali... even though we know it’ll be *packed* with people! So we’ll steer clear of the island’s south...

Our current plan (19 days on the ground, 7 stops): - 4 Nights (3 days) in Ubud 2 days for rice terraces / activities (Tegallalang, Campuhan Ridge, Monkey Forest, Bird Park, coffee plantation, market (?), dance "pestacle," cooking class and/or spa) 1 day with a driver for the Temples (Pura Gunung Kawi, Tirta Empul Spring, Pura Mengening, Goa Gajah...) - 2 nights in Sidemen (1 day for Pura Kehen + Batur Caldera + Pura Besakih and 1 day to relax in the rice terraces) - 3 nights on Gili Meno (Rest and beaches) from Padangbai - 2 nights in Amed (1 day from Padangbai with the Abang rice terrace and Tirta Gangga baths, and the next day a boat tour in Amed) - 4 nights in Pemuteran (1 day for transfer and rest, 1 day to visit Kawah Ijen, and 2 days of snorkeling at Menjangan Island) - 2 nights in Munduk (1 day with the Dayang rice terrace and the 3-waterfall hike, 1 day at Pura Ulun Danu Bratan) - 2 nights in Jatiluwih (1 day in the rice terraces, and on the last day, we’ll stop by Pura Taman Ayun in Mengwi and Pura Tanah Lot before catching our red-eye flight).

Accommodations in homestays or hotels. Transportation to be arranged on-site with the lodgings (?) Boat to Gili Meno to book in advance (?) Kawah Ijen excursion to plan ahead (?)—check with the homestay (?)
