Wednesday 23: Morning: Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. Afternoon: Trastevere neighborhood and the Monumento a Garibaldi. Thursday 24: Piazza Navona, Church of St. Louis of the French, the Pantheon, Campo de’ Fiori, Piazza Venezia, Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore, Trevi Fountain. Friday 25: Villa Borghese, Piazza del Popolo, Spanish Steps, Quirinale, Piazza della Repubblica, and Santa Maria degli Angeli. Saturday 26: Aventine and Testaccio neighborhoods, the Capuchin Crypt. Hi there, We’re spending 3 weeks in Brazil, arriving in São Paulo—a couple plus a teen—and we’ll have a rental car. We especially love nature: hiking, wildlife watching, birds, etc. We’re planning to wrap up with a week around Paraty and Ilha Grande. We’re not really into visiting big cities like São Paulo or Rio unless you think we’d be missing out big time.

So we’ve got 2 weeks to explore the south/southwest region of São Paulo. What do you recommend? National parks? Off-the-beaten-path nature spots? Iguazu Falls?

Hi there, we’re planning to spend a month in Lombok in July 2026 and would love to hear your thoughts on Gili Gede.

We really enjoy snorkeling, preferably from the beach (so we don’t have to rely on renting a boat). On the side, we also love short hikes of a few hours—like to waterfalls or through rice fields (max 5–6 hours round trip). We’d like to stay in small family-run hotels away from the crowds (but with a pool, since our kids love spending their evenings there).

Do you think Gili Gede checks at least 2 of these 3 boxes (snorkeling + small family-run hotels away from the crowds)? Would you recommend a better spot in Lombok that ticks all 3 boxes?

Hi, we’re planning a round trip from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, to Salta, Argentina, in two months. On the way there, we’ll take the northern route via Susques, Route 27, then 52. But for the return, we were thinking of taking the southern route via San Antonio de los Cobres, Route 51, then 23. Is it similar to the northern route in terms of road surface? How busy is it, and are there gas stations? Basically, should we be worried about doing it in an SUV that’s supposedly 4x4 but has regular road tires and no second spare wheel, obviously... Hi there, We're heading to Thailand with our two kids (9 years old) for two weeks next February (2026). We plan to rent a car to stay independent and explore a bit off the beaten path. Still, we'd like to spend 1 or 2 nights on a nice, quiet island—just for some relaxation and especially snorkeling (even though I know it's not the best country for beautiful corals).

I've read dozens of forum pages and travel journals, but I'm still overwhelmed and can't decide where to go for a peaceful paradise-like beach with good snorkeling opportunities. We don’t need comfort—Robinson Crusoe-style camping or hammock nights work perfectly for us. No electricity or signal is totally fine. We just don’t want to pay 1000 € for a family of four to go to the Surin Islands, even if they do look like paradise.

Any suggestions?

We’re heading to Chile for two weeks at the end of December. I’m traveling with my son (17 years old). His mom, whom I’m divorced from, won’t be with us.

I’ve read on several sites—including official Chilean ones—that a Chilean exit permit is required for minors if they’re not accompanied by both parents. According to these sites, this authorization needs to be done at the Chilean consulate in Paris and then legalized upon arrival in Santiago.

This formality seems really cumbersome for French tourists who arrive together and leave together just two weeks later...

Hi there, we’re planning to visit part of Zhangjiajie Park in one day soon. We’re staying in Wellington the night before. My question is about which entrance ticket to get on trip.com. They offer either just the ticket or a combo with the ticket, elevator, and cable car for Tianzi Mountain—not just the entrance and elevator. I’m a bit lost. :)

We want to make the most of the day, starting right when the park opens. If you have a recommended route, that’d be great. I’ve also heard to double-check the shuttle buses inside the park. Anyway, I’m not sure whether to start with the cable car or the elevator.

Hello, We’re heading to the Lofoten Islands from February 17 to 24, 2026—my husband (a fishing enthusiast), our 7-year-old daughter, and me. The flight tickets are booked (arrival and departure from Evenes), the car is rented, and the itinerary is more or less set. I just have a few questions left and was hoping to get some advice/tips from your experiences. We’ve planned two bases: Henningsvær and Nusfjord. Originally, I had planned:

Arrival at Evenes at 2:30 PM, pick up the car, drive (3h) to the Lofoten Islands 4 nights in Henningsvær 3 nights in Nusfjord Drive to the airport (5h) and departure at 3:20 PM

Looking back and considering the unpredictable weather, I’m thinking that a 5-hour drive on the last day before returning the car and catching our flight might not be the best idea. So now, I’m considering spending 3 nights in Henningsvær, 3 nights in Nusfjord, and one last night on the way to the airport. What do you think? Would you have any villages to recommend along the route between the Lofoten Islands and Narvik where we could spend the night and maybe explore for our last 24 hours in Norway? A few practical questions: I’ve heard that most shops, restaurants, cafés, etc., will be closed since it’s the off-season, but on the other hand, I see that Henningsvær is a village that comes alive during the skrei fishing season. I was wondering if everything would be closed or if it would still be possible to visit shops, workshops, and galleries. As for skrei fishing, my husband would love to fish with locals for 2 or 3 days. I found some options online, but nothing’s open yet for February. Will it be possible to join skrei fishing with locals or certain organizations? We’re booking local providers for safaris and excursions, but we don’t want to rent a car (airport shuttle, safety concerns, driving on the left). Hello, We recently went to Rajasthan. For the duration, I’d recommend about 3 weeks if you can, so you can explore the region at a relaxed pace. We also wanted to experience "the real Indian life," and our driver showed us small markets, little temples, and his village near Ranakpur in the Marwar region. For your info, here are some hotels where we stayed—there’s a huge hotel scene in Rajasthan. No need to book in advance; day by day works really well. You arrive, visit, and if you don’t like it, you just move on—it’s no problem in India. No upfront payment, and you can even negotiate on the spot with this approach, which gives you flexibility with your itinerary. Here are some hotels we stayed at: Madhuban in Jaipur (Haveli house) and also in Jaipur, the Khandela Haveli, which we preferred In Jodhpur, the Kuchaman Haveli In Ranakpur (Ranakpur Hill Resort) with a great pool Bikaner: Hotel Laxmi Niwas Udaipur: Hotel Savroopvilas Jaisalmer: Hotel Rang Mahal Here’s the itinerary we followed over nearly three weeks: 1 - When we arrived in Delhi, we headed straight north to Nawalgarh and Mandawa (towns with Havelis = painted houses). Along the way, we stopped in Jhunjhunu to see the Rani Sati Temple. We slept in Mandawa (we arrived in the evening and explored the next morning). 2 - Then we drove to Bikaner (Junagarh Fort, but if you have to choose, the forts in Jodhpur and Jaipur are more interesting in our opinion). After that, we took the road to Deshnoke (temple with sacred rats) and before that, we saw a small temple on the way with white rats. In Deshnoke, the rats move freely among people. We’re not too squeamish, so it was fine. Anyway, it was interesting to see. 3 - Next, we headed to Pushkar, where we took a camel ride (you have to negotiate the price; it varies depending on the camel’s quality, the saddle, and its decoration). One to two hours is more than enough. There’s always someone riding with you on the camel (at least that’s how it was for us). There are also things to see along the way. 4 - From Pushkar, we went to Jodhpur (Mehrangarh Fort, Clock Tower, Jaswant Thada). From Jodhpur, we visited villages (including our driver’s village, which was ideal for connecting with locals, having tea, and exploring the village with part of the community tagging along—I think we went into almost every house). We also did a train safari in the hills. Then Ranakpur (splendid Jain temple, Adinath Temple). With a bit of luck, you might spot Raikas, nomadic herders. Then Kumbhalgarh Fort, and after that, Udaipur. Along the way, we spent the night in a very small town called Jojawar at the Rawla Jojawar hotel, owned by the former Maharaja. A wonderful memory. 5 - In Udaipur (City Palace; Monsoon Palace = depends on the weather—if it’s not clear, you won’t see much, but if it is, the view is stunning). 6 - On the way to Jaipur: Sas-Bahu Temple; then in Jaipur: City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds), the Hanuman Temple, etc. 7 - Heading toward Agra, the Galta Valley with lots of monkeys. We finished with Fatehpur Sikri and then Agra. Agra is *very* touristy, so people are less friendly and can be pushy about selling things or offering their services as guides. You have to stay polite but firm and not let them sweet-talk you. Hotels are also pricier and there’s not always much choice. For the Taj Mahal (closed on Fridays), go very early in the morning when it opens. It’s best to arrive the evening before and spend the night at a hotel before visiting. Inside the Taj Mahal site, it’s already calmer. After that, we visited Akbar’s mausoleum (in Sikandra, near Agra) and the so-called "Baby Taj" (in Agra). For the Taj, I’ve heard they’re doing renovations, but it’s still a must-see. 8 - In Delhi, if you still have time, check out the Jama Masjid mosque and Mahatma Gandhi’s tomb. Also see Humayun’s Mausoleum (in the Nizamuddin East neighborhood). In Jaisalmer (spend a night in the dunes after a camel ride), Chittorgarh, Bundi, Ranthambore Park, Orchha, and Khajuraho. Actually, you’ll have to make choices, or you’ll spend your whole vacation traveling. The average driving speed is about 50–60 km/h. Our other trips in India: Gujarat (we love it and have been twice), Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and also Haridwar and Varanasi. In the south, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. In some cities, we visited with a local guide (about two hours), and some spoke French or English. One last thing that comes to mind: if you go to Jaisalmer, check out Gadi Sagar Lake. Also worth seeing: the Demoiselle Cranes in Kichan, not far from Jodhpur. These are thousands of common cranes that migrate near the region’s lakes during the winter months. A beautiful ornithological spectacle. And Kichan or Keechan. Happy trip planning! Jean

We're about to go on an organized trip to South Africa, including Kruger Park. We were told that Malarone should preferably be taken in the evening at the same time during a meal. But it's hard to know what time we'll have dinner, especially since I've read that in South Africa, dinner is usually around 6 PM.

I'd love to hear from people who've been on organized trips to this destination and could share their experience. We were thinking of taking Malarone around 7:30 PM, assuming dinner would be closer to 7 PM than 6 PM. Also, if the meal ends up being earlier or later than when we take the pill, would a cookie or a piece of bread be enough to take with Malarone?
