Du Mali au Mississipi English translation pending
Parmi mes musiques préférées, il y a le résultat de la confrontation de musiciens africains (principalement du Mali, considéré par beaucoup comme le berceau du blues) et de jazzmen ou bluesmen américains.
Quand chacun fait un pas vers l'autre, cela donne des résultats fascinants.
Voici la liste de mes favoris :
Hank Jones et Cheick Tidiane Seck : Sarala (1995) C'est un album magnifique ou le vieux pianiste de jazz Hank Jones joue légèrement et humblement avec le malien Seck accompagné d' anciens musiciens du célèbre orchestre du Super Rail Band de Bamako. "Sarala" signifie "je me confie à toi" en mandingue, et c'est ainsi que les griots affirment leur sincérité. Ali Farka Touré et Ry Cooder : Talking Timbuktu (1994) Faut-il présenter ce disque qui est sans doute le plus connu de ma liste ? Ry Cooder est un guitariste américain amoureux de toutes les musiques. Le projet Buena Vista Social Club qui a relancé de la musique cubaine, c'est lui. Avant Buena Vista Social Club, il a réuni quelques musiciens américains de renom avec Ali Farka Touré et deux percussionistes maliens. Ali Farka Touré est un grand guitariste et chanteur qui interprète ses propres compositions. Celles-ci, mieux produites et accompagnées que d'habitude, sonnent magnifiquement sur ce disque dans lequel la guitare de Ry Cooder est très discrète.
Taj Mahal et Toumani Diabaté : Kulanjan (1999) Le fameux bluesman américain Taj Mahal a fait venir aux USA 6 musiciens maliens pour confronter son art à celui de sa terre d'origine. Toumani Diabaté est un virtuose de la kora, instrument du griot mandingue entre la guitare et la harpe. Le résultat est une réussite, les titres sont spontanés, inventifs, harmonieux, sereins, enracinés dans la tradition du peuple noir, tirant ici sur les mélodies africaines, rappelant là le blues du Mississippi, toujours à mi-chemin de ces deux cultures dont on sait bien qu'elle ont des racines communes.
Corey Harris : Mississipi to Mali (2004) Dans le film de Martin Scorcese "Feel like going home", consacré aux liens entre le blues du Mississippi et la musique malienne, Corey Harris tient le rôle de guide. Fils de bluesman et bluesman lui-même cet anthropologue de 34 ans a fait le voyage musical du retour à la terre mère. Ce disque en est l'aboutissement, une partie des morceaux ayant été enregistrés aux USA et l'autre au Mali, l'ensemble étant d'une belle unité. On retrouve sur certains morceaux le son de la guitare d'Ali Farke Touré et sa voix profonde.
Si vous en avez d'autres à conseiller, je suis preneur.

Je souhaiterais partir en Israël mais je ne sais absolument pas quel job je pourais exercer là-bas, je suis française, parle anglais mais ni l'hébreu ni l'arabe et j'ai mon bac.

Je suis étudiante en ethnomusicologie, et prévois faire un voyage en Afrique pour étudier les instruments et la musique d'une communauté.
Je suis aux premières planifications de mon voyage et j'hésite entre quelques pays africains. Si quelques uns d'entre vous aviez des suggestions de pays intéressants, ça me serait très utile. Je cherche bien sûr un pays riche au plan musical, mais aussi un pays où le français est assez répandu...

Which island to choose in Thailand for a few days with my sister?
Hello, it’s been a while since I last asked for your help on this forum—I’ve really missed it! I hope you’re all doing well, whether you're new or returning members.
I’m planning a trip from February 6 to 18, 2027, with my sister (we’re 47 and 50—time flies!). I’ve got my eye on a flight from Paris that lands in Bangkok on February 7 at 3 PM, with a return flight from Bangkok on February 18 at noon.
My sister has never been to this destination, and it’ll be her first time in Asia. Her priorities: beaches, sunshine, and cocktails by the shore. For me, I love that too, but I also enjoy exploring, nature, forests, and a bit of comfort (mixing guesthouses and higher-end hotels with pools). A little evening entertainment would be great, but not too much—good cocktails in a nice atmosphere rather than a rave party ;-). And I can’t help but dream of taking her on a little trek through a tropical forest (guaranteed memories and laughs, though she might curse me at the time) and showing her some karst landscapes.
I’ve been to Thailand before, but it was 15 years ago...
The idea is to give her a taste of Bangkok for 1 or 2 nights, a few days on an island (but which one...?), a tropical forest excursion with 1 or 2 nights on-site (Khao Sok?), and then back to Bangkok.
For the "main" island, even after reading the *Guide du Routard*, I’m still undecided. It’s hard to find a place that ticks all the boxes without feeling as crowded as the French Riviera in August: Koh Lanta? Khao Lak (though it’s not an island)? Koh Tao (I could maybe get my PADI certification, but I’m afraid she’d get bored, and it might be better to save that for a solo trip)? Koh Yao Yai (I worry we’d be bored in the evenings)? What a dilemma!
