Coucou ! je pars a brisbane dans quelques jours et je voudrais emporter mon ordinateur portable avec moi, le prendre en bagage à main. j'ai lu dans un bouquin que les douanes australiennes pouvaient me demander de réinitialiser mon ordi à l'arrivée, est-ce que c'est déjà arrivé à l'un d'entre vous ? sinon y a-t-il des précautions particulières à prendre quand on emporte ce genre d'appareil là bas ? A little trip report from an 11-day journey to Albania at the end of April 2026, with two friends in their early sixties and beyond... Our route: Berat, Gjirokastër, Himarë, Tirana Here are some opinions, tips, and great deals to share: Flight Round-trip Beauvais-Tirana: Ryanair, 260 € with checked baggage (20 kg) and seat selection. Flight was fine and on time. 2h 30min flight. Exchange: 1 € was worth 95 lek in April 2026. We were advised to exchange in the airport hall at the Illiria counter (98 lek outside the security zone), saying we wouldn’t find a better rate. However, the exchange rate was 93 lek for 1 euro, while in the city it was 95... Car rental at Tirana airport for 9 days via Booking.com: 144 € (56 € for the car rental and 88 € for optional full insurance deductible waiver). Wheego agency: the car was fine, but be careful when signing the contract—they tried to convince us that the insurance taken through Booking didn’t cover everything and insisted we take their own insurance for 250 €... We refused. After reading about driving in Tirana, instead of starting our trip by visiting the capital, we decided to head straight to Berat upon arrival and return the car at the end of the trip to explore the city on foot. This turned out to be a great choice! Accommodations: All our stays were booked via Booking.com. Everyone prefers to be paid in euros and in cash—they mention this when booking. Berat: 2-hour drive from the airport. Accommodation: Vila Arben Elezi: 135 € for 3 nights with breakfast and private parking. The room was decent and clean but a bit dark, located slightly below ground level near the parking. However, the breakfast on the rooftop was excellent, especially with the stunning view of the "city of a thousand windows." Great location. Berat was our favorite—there are lovely walks through the different neighborhoods on both sides of the river, each with a very different vibe. The citadel visit is also fascinating, as it’s like a small town within the fortress. The walk along the river is pleasant, with plenty of restaurant choices. Other restaurants in the old town are also very nice. The White House Restaurant, on the first floor along the road, is good and offers a great view of the Gorica district. Gjirokastër: Accommodation: Te Ajdini Guest House: 120 € for 3 nights with breakfast. A private home stay. There’s free parking just before entering the city, a 5-minute walk from the accommodation, which is very convenient since the cobblestone streets are narrow and parking is tricky. Yes, it’s a climb to get to the place, but everything in this city is uphill... The room was bright and clean. Breakfast was very good, hearty, and served in the courtyard with a view of the castle. The guesthouse is a 5-minute walk from the city center (the bazaar) but in a quiet area. Restaurants: Rrapi and Kujtimi—good and affordable with their little pergolas. The old town of Gjirokastër is charming but very touristy, with streets packed with souvenir shops and restaurant tables and chairs. Lots of people. -The bunker visit (near the tourist office) is very interesting: Cold War Tunnel. The castle offers a beautiful view of the city. -Visit to the Ottoman house Skenduli: very well done. Don’t forget to climb the ladder facing a trapdoor in the ceiling to see the roof’s framework—it’s like a forest of beams: impressive! -The bridge Ura e Ali Pasha: A steep 45-minute climb from the city to the site is worth it, but once you reach the viewpoint (which is stunning), you have to go back down a path to reach the bridge. You can drive to the viewpoint, but parking is very tricky. Around Gjirokastër: -Just outside the city: Lake Liqeni i Viroit: a nice, ordinary-looking lake, but at the end, there’s a natural spring making the water crystal clear and a brilliant blue—really spectacular, like photos of Blue Eye near Sarandë. -Drive to Përmet along the gorges: beautiful viewpoints along the way and lovely countryside. Himarë: Accommodation: Vila Kosteli: 120 € for 2 nights with breakfast—slightly overpriced for this type of place but very close to a small beach and not far from the promenade with all the restaurants. Private parking, but very tight (4 cars on a tiny lot along the road). The "sea view" room is a bit obstructed by the building across the street. However, the rooftop breakfast view is beautiful. Friendly staff. Himarë is a pleasant seaside resort, quite calm (but it was April...). There’s a cute promenade with restaurants along the beach. The castle on the heights of Himarë is worth a visit. Around Himarë: -Qeparo is worth a quick stop, but Qeparo village is really worth the detour: a village lost in the heights after a scenic drive up from the coastal road—narrow but well-maintained. Beautiful view from the top and a charming village. -The Big Bunker and Llogora Panorama: take a right turn several kilometers after Dhermi—a road that climbs steeply from the start... A breathtaking winding road that reaches 900 meters in altitude. The view is stunning. -Several small villages between Dhermi and Himarë are worth a quick stop. -Porto Palermo Castle is somewhat disappointing. Tirana: Taxi from Tirana airport to the city center: 15 € with electric taxis (Green Taxi, Bee Taxi, Do Taxi). Accommodation: Hotel Nevi Apartment: 63 € for 2 nights. A private apartment in an older building but very clean and well-equipped, with a kitchen and small enclosed balcony. Great welcome and contact—the owner even booked a taxi for our departure. Very well located, close to the main square, shops, and restaurants. A small supermarket nearby is perfect for stocking up on breakfast supplies. The city is lively and dynamic, with plenty of green spaces and promenades. Buildings are popping up everywhere, often with surprising architecture—like a building shaped like a face, a huge golden cube, and many others under construction. -Sky Tower: at the top, a rotating bar offers a 360° view of the city and its buildings. Drinks are a bit pricier than usual, but it’s totally worth it (6 € for a beer or a glass of white wine, 3 € for coffee). We were there for sunset, and it was amazing! A must-do. Arrive early, as it fills up quickly. -The House of Leaves: a house used for secret surveillance and interrogations during the dictatorship... A great way to learn about the surveillance systems of that era. -Bunk’Art 2: a bunker in the heart of the city—very interesting, covering the dictatorship period and its system... -The Pazari i Ri Bazaar: the new bazaar district. The large hall is worth a visit, but souvenir prices are often higher than elsewhere... The area is nice. Restaurant: Kastrati Restaurant—a bit like a canteen with lots of traditional dishes. It’s on the first floor of a building. Excellent value for money, and the waitress explains the dishes in French.

Hi! Recently, the domestic-flight terminal at Ivato has been moved to the old "international" airport, complete with its own scanner. On October 13th, I checked my luggage (which I had inspected before leaving my hotel in Tana) for a flight to Sambava. It wasn’t until I arrived at my accommodation in Antalaha and opened it that I discovered it had been searched (normal before boarding a plane), but to my surprise, the case containing my GPS fishfinder had been opened—likely mistaken for a laptop due to the scanner’s open access to all kinds of theft—and three SD cards were stolen. Luckily, two of the SD cards had their micro SDs inserted into the device, so I still had the Navionics micro card (300 €) essential for fishing. Of course, I’m not asking for compensation, just urging caution with checked luggage on "domestic" flights. (This is a copy-paste of my post on *Le Routard*.)

Hi, Flight from Phu Quoc to Langkawi via Kuala Lumpur with a self-transfer layover of 2H10. No terminal change, but you’ll need to collect your carry-on luggage, recheck in for the second flight (same airline, AirAsia), go through customs and security... I land at 9:30 PM, plus time to clear customs, pick up my luggage, and exchange some money—figure an extra 30 to 45 minutes. Hi there, I’d like to know if it’s possible to catch a 9:00 AM flight to Lombok with Air Asia after landing in Kuala Lumpur at 6:10 AM from Paris with Malaysia Airlines (we don’t have checked baggage, but our tickets are separate, so we’ll need to go through immigration). Same question for the return: arriving in Kuala Lumpur at 9:20 PM from Lombok and departing for Paris at 11:40 PM. I’ve read that the two airlines are in different terminals at the airport. The other option is to take flights with a 7- to 8-hour layover. What do you think is better? Thanks!

Hi there, I’m heading back to Réunion 13 years after my first trip to this gorgeous island, from 02/25 to 03/12 because airfare prices are great for those dates with Air Austral—557.65 € with a checked bag and 100 € less without. Departing from Paris CDG on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 7:00 PM and returning to Paris on Tuesday, March 12, 2025, at 5:30 AM. I know it’s not the ideal time to visit Réunion, but I’ve been there during the same season before and it went well. There are fewer tourists, the landscapes are even more stunning, and the only risk is a cyclone keeping us indoors for a few days. Otherwise, there’s always a spot on the island with sunshine, and rain usually arrives in the afternoon... I’m looking for people who, like me, love hiking and (re)discovering a region to join me!

We’ll rent a car and hike across different parts of the island most days, plus some sightseeing and a bit of swimming in natural pools or at the beach. The detailed itinerary isn’t set yet, and I’m open to suggestions—though we’ll mostly go with the weather. I’m planning several accommodations to explore more easily and cut down on driving... I’m leaving this Saturday the 30th with Iberia, and they’re not responding to emails or picking up the phone 😐. So I’m trying here with my three questions:

1 - On the way there, I’d like to check a pack of water (Vittel 1.5L x6 bottles) in my hold luggage since it’s not allowed in the cabin. I’d like to know if this is allowed or if there are any restrictions in the hold as well (aside from the maximum weight of the luggage, of course)?

2 - I have a disability, and my health hasn’t been improving, so I’ve needed a cane to get around for a while now. At the airport, they’ll put me in a wheelchair with special assistance (I’m used to it). I’ve brought a folding cane for the trip—am I allowed to have it in my carry-on luggage? (It’s a basic walking cane that folds, no fancy handle that unscrews with a sword inside or anything like that). The wheelchair is great, but before the flight, I’d like to stretch my legs a bit .

(The question might seem silly, but I’ve had some weird surprises at airport security before—a glass knick-knack that confused them for a while, even though it was just a small glass rose under a dome, or another time, my empty hair spray bottle caused a lot of hesitation.)

3 - I never received an invoice for my Iberia flights (booked in February), and I’ll need it (since a small part might be reimbursed by my works council). I’ve checked my Iberia personal space, but there’s no invoice anywhere. Do you know how I can get it? (Given that they don’t respond to emails—or if they do, it’s off-topic—and they don’t answer the phone.)

Je pars faire une semaine de vélo en Normandie dans quelques jours et j'ai eu une mauvaise surprise : j'avais l'intention de mettre un porte bagage sur mon vélo afin d'y mettre des sacoche mais mon marchand de vélo m'a dit que c'était impossible car vélo trop petit... :( Je dois donc trouver une solution de (avant) dernière minute, en évitant de louer un vélo si possible, et l'idéale serait une remorque. Il faudrait une remorque qui soit assez légère et pas trop encombrante (car en plus je dois la transporter dans le train), et pas besoin qu'elle soit trop grande, capacité de 40L suffit amplement. J'ai vu qu'il existait plusieurs modèles type "bob" ou extrawheel (une roue supplémentaire avec possibilité de mettre des sacoches) ou encore la marque ZAP outdoor.

Ma question est: est-ce que vous savez ou louer une telle remorque sur Paris? Ou acheter pour pas trop cher? Je n'ai pas vraiment le temps de me la faire expédier et de commander sur internet je pense... Ou si quelqu'un aurait une remorque qui dors dans un garage.... 😄

Bonjour à tous, Je poste enfin mon carnet de voyages de cet hiver passé.

Nous sommes partis en couple du 23/12/2019 au 04/01/2020 avec KLM/ Air France depuis Bordeaux à Montréal. Nous avons acheté les billets en Juillet 2019 pour 1286€ à 2 (inclus 1 bagage en soute chacun à l’aller et un seul pour le retour). ***j’ai ramené les skis à ma cousine*** Nous sommes arrivés à Montréal vers 17h00 (-2°C), ma cousine est venue nous chercher et nous a logés dans un appartement proche de la station de métro Namur (ligne orange). Pendant 3 jours, cet endroit était notre point de chute car le Condo de ma cousine était en travaux. Le premier soir, on a mangé Burger King (24 CAD pour 2) et on s’est couché tôt car nous étions fatigués du voyage.

Le lendemain (24/12), on s’est fait un bon petit déjeuner à l’appart et on est parti se balader au centre-ville : on a traversé le quartier chinois, on a flâné dans la rue St Paul Est, on a fait une pause sur la Place Jacques-Cartier, puis on est allé au Marché Bonsecours. On a également vu la Basilique Notre Dame de Montréal (où s’est mariée Céline DION) 😊

On s’est promené sur les quais du Vieux-Port et vu la Grande roue avec la patinoire aménagée pour la saison hivernale. A l’approche du réveillon de Noël, peu de monde dans les rues…. On a grignoté des Tacos vers 15h00, mais pas top ☹ (99 CAD pour 4 tout de même) on se rattrapera le soir 😊. Nous avons marché sur toute la rue Ste Catherine d’Ouest en Est et nous sommes remontés jusqu’à la station de métro Laurier en passant dans les rues du quartier Plateau Mont-royal fatigués nous avons pris le métro pour rentrer jusqu’à notre logement. (8 allers/retours = 26 CAD – à utiliser en plusieurs fois).

Nous avions décidé de réveillonner pour la première fois en amoureux (ma cousine partait dans sa belle-famille). Malheureusement, beaucoup de restaurants étaient fermés pour les fêtes et bien sûr j’avais oublié de lui demander conseil ! pfff ! … Après plusieurs appels (faute de trouver quelque chose qui nous convienne vraiment), on réserve au Rib’n Reef Steakhouse pour 21h30 non loin de l’appart (pensant que ce restaurant était équivalent à « La Boucherie »). Enfin, une sieste s’impose de 18h à 20h30 et nous voilà repartis à pieds au restau. De loin, ça ne payait pas de mine, un peu dans une zone commerciale, mais une fois arrivés devant on regarde sur le parking : que des voitures haut de gamme et un portier aussi devant l’entrée ! Une famille est arrivée en même temps que nous (ils avaient la classe !) et nous, on était en jeans, blouson de ski et boots 😊 (la honte !). Le restau était spacieux et rempli de monde, les serveurs et serveuses étaient bien apprêtés (robe sexy et costumes), et quasiment un par table…

Même si on n’était pas bien habillés, on savait qu’on allait finalement passer un bon moment romantique et se faire plaisir. Notre serveur était drôle et a bien mérité son pourboire. On a pris des huîtres en entrée : passables, on ne peut pas les comparer aux françaises bien sûr ! On a bu une bouteille de vin rouge californien « Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 » (conseillé par notre serveur) à un prix raisonnable (69 CAD) contrairement à celles notées sur la carte des vins (les prix s’envolaient), puis on a choisi une côte de bœuf chacun environ 400 gr accompagnés de légumes et purée. Hélas, la cuisson de la viande n’a pas été à la hauteur de nos espérances, elle n’était pas grillée comme on aurait pu l’imaginer mais cuite dans un jus/ bouillon. Elle était tendre, mais déçus ! ☹ La note finale avec 2 expressos = 350 CAD pour 2. Pour notre 1ère expérience dans un restaurant canadien et pour le réveillon de Noël, on a passé un très bon moment : c’était fort agréable et convivial ! Nous sommes rentrés vers 1h00 du matin (environ -9°C) gla-gla !

Le jour de Noël (25/12), nous avons un peu dormi, et ma cousine et son fiancé nous ont rejoints pour le petit déjeuner/ brunch. Ils avaient réservé un spa nordique à Rosemère pour la journée de Noël : « Spa Le Finlandais » (40 CAD/ pers + 22 CAD/ pers pour le prêt des peignoirs et serviettes). Journée très agréable et détente. Il faisait entre -1° et 2°C dehors et l’eau était à 38°C, trop génial ! La sensation de froid sur le visage et de chaud sur le reste du corps est excellent ! Il n’y avait pas trop de monde le matin, mais les gens sont arrivés en milieu d’après-midi. Le soir, nous étions invités chez des canadiens, des amis à ma cousine (comme elle dit : sa famille de cœur !) pour fêter Noël tous ensemble. Nous étions une quinzaine d’adultes et une dizaine d’enfants. Quel moment magique nous avons passé avec eux : nous avons été accueillis les bras grands ouverts, nous avons bu et mangé à outrance et quel repas délicieux ! Nous nous sommes bien amusés et sommes rentrés vers 4h du matin.
