Trip to Amsterdam
by Chrissand · 2025-01-29 · 5 replies
Hi everyone!

I wanted to share my experience from a trip to Amsterdam. Spring is coming, and it’s one of my favorite destinations for this season, especially with the Keukenhof in bloom.

There are so many museums to visit and places to see, like Dam Square, the Royal Palace, Museum Square, the Red Light District... Some spots, like the Anne Frank House, require reservations. You can also take walks along the canals or even go on canal cruises.

For museums, I really enjoyed the Rijksmuseum for works by Rembrandt and Vermeer, as well as the Van Gogh Museum (combo tickets are available).

For more nature-focused outings, there’s Vondelpark, Keukenhof Park, and the windmills at Zaanse Schans... You can find all my photos and details about my trip budget on my travel journal for Amsterdam.
Visiting the BMW Museum in Germany
by Chrissand · 2025-01-01 · 0 replies
Hi there, I wanted to share my experience at the BMW Museum with you. If you're a fan of the brand or just curious about the history of automobiles, this museum is really worth a visit! From the first BMW motorcycles to racing cars and the legendary production models, the museum traces the brand's history. You'll find the entire BMW universe through videos, sound installations, and 3D reconstructions of engines. Plan for at least 2 hours to visit. And there’s the Olympiapark nearby to check out too!. All the info on the BMW Museum in Munich is on this link, along with photos.
Choosing between Knossos and Phaistos
by Chrissand · 2024-12-28 · 0 replies
If you're torn between visiting Knossos and Phaistos during your trip to Crete, here are a few points to help you decide! Knossos is the island’s most famous and most visited archaeological site, largely thanks to its impressive Minoan palace and its proximity to Heraklion. It’s a must-see for history, mythology, and archaeology buffs.

That said, to avoid disappointment, you should know the site is completely reconstructed according to one archaeologist’s vision. So, it’s all very concrete...

See the full details on Knossos

Phaistos, on the other hand, is quieter and less crowded, which can make for a more intimate and peaceful experience. Its palace is less restored than Knossos’s, but Phaistos has its own charm thanks to its stunning views of the Messara Plain and the Libyan Sea. The site is simpler but just as fascinating, with its ruins and the famous "Phaistos Disc," a mysterious artifact that still puzzles researchers.

Tuscany in Our Sights
by Attila · 2024-11-13 · 1 reply
Our trip to Puglia left a bitter taste—between the trash, privatized beaches, and relentless heat.

But on our way home, a short stop in Tuscany reconciled us with Italy.

This new summer, we’ve decided to add this beautiful region to our itinerary!

As usual for relatively nearby destinations, we’ll be driving via the Col de la Lombarde on the way there and Mont Cenis Pass on the way back.

A chance to kill two birds with one stone: one trip, multiple landscapes crossed.

For our Tuscan stay, we’ve chosen a house tucked away in the Chianti vineyards.

Peace and quiet, barely disturbed by the occasional wild boar or deer!

You’ve probably gathered that we won’t be sightseeing fanatics, even if classics like Siena, Florence, San Gimignano, Pisa, and the Abbey of Saint Michael of the Cluse are on the agenda.

You can find the details of our journey beyond the Alps here.

Happy reading!

And if you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate!

Breathtaking Faroe Islands

After watching the *Échappées Belles* episode on this spectacular chain of islands lost in the North Atlantic, we’ve been dreaming of going there. Why not summer 2023?

Since we love road trips for the way they let you really grasp distances, we’re choosing to travel by car and ferry.

It’s not exactly fast, but it’s a great way to see the countryside!

We’ll explore part of the archipelago starting from three bases—charming apartments we rented through a well-known platform...

Hiking, hiking, and more hiking.

Green, green, and more green.

Sunshine, wind, a few raindrops, and a pretty cool climate...

But most of all, a peaceful escape from the hustle of cities in a stunning landscape of cliffs and untouched nature.

You can find the details of our Nordic adventure here.

Happy reading!

And if you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to share!

Trip feedback from Fuerteventura
by Robertson73 · 2024-11-05 · 0 replies
During our stay in Lanzarote, we spent a few days in Fuerteventura. We particularly loved:

- The short hike up Volcán Calderon Hondo

- The center of the island, with a stop in Betancuria while driving along the stunning FV30 road

- The unmissable Cofete, a real end-of-the-world vibe. Everyone seems to get there at their own risk in a rental car, by the way.

- The Mirador de Sicasumbre is our favorite viewpoint on Fuerteventura

For the beaches, I’d say you can sum it up like this: the east coast is windy with calm waters, while the west coast is less windy but has big waves.

- East coast beaches: Sotavento and Corralejo - West coast beaches: La Pared and Cofete

No issues bringing our rental car from Lanzarote to Fuerteventura.

Wild Colombia off the tourist trail
by Kuntzb · 2024-11-03 · 20 replies
Hi, I'd love to know where we can observe wildlife, birds, and nature in Colombia... Like going on a hike without a guide, immersing ourselves in the forest, far from tourist spots. I want to avoid places that are specially set up, since you usually don’t see much there. Thanks in advance! Bernard
Exploring the Mekong Delta by Motorcycle
by Parenski · 2024-10-28 · 0 replies
Among the road trips through breathtaking landscapes you can take in Southeast Asia—Thailand, for example, and especially Vietnam, where it’s possible to complete three legendary circuits in completely different environments—I highly recommend the Mekong Delta off the tourist trail!

This route is easy to follow, and travelers can use the travel journal and interactive map that MyAtlas, now a Voyage Forum partner, kindly published. For those who want more details, the full day-by-day account of the route, including mileage, is now available on the BOD bookstore. This practical little guide to a lived adventure zooms in on a region that’s still relatively unknown and packed with extra insights from someone who’s spent over twelve years in Southeast Asia.
