We land early in Detroit... a nightmare of an airport. A long, dreadful baggage check process, but we still make it to gate A10 just in the nick of time—only for disaster to strike! My passport has my first and last name, my boarding pass has my first and last name, BUT not on Delta’s computer—so we’re denied boarding! We head to the Air France-Delta-KLM desk, where an employee listens to us sympathetically. He books us two seats on an 8:30 AM flight to SF... Then passes us off to two colleagues who offer us a night in a hotel... and send a message to the baggage service to keep our checked luggage safe... In the end, we go to bed earlier, wake up earlier, but since we’ll still get some sleep on the plane, we might be able to look back on this whole mess with a smile... well, we hope so, anyway. 10:17 PM in Detroit—time to sleep. Our clean clothes and toiletries are in the plane. We’ll bounce back!!;

This trip to Egypt isn’t happening anytime soon, but I like to plan a few steps ahead! 😉

I’ve already been to Egypt several times (Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, the classic cruise, the Lake Nasser cruise, Abu Simbel, Taba) both solo and on organized tours, but my partner hasn’t.

So, I’m thinking of mixing the classic with something a bit more original.

My idea is to visit Cairo and its surroundings, then make my way to Luxor in stages. The trip would end in Luxor.

Renting a car doesn’t seem like a viable option. That leaves boats, public transport, a car with a driver, or even a private tour for the stretch between Cairo and Luxor.

My questions:

How can I cover the Cairo-Luxor stretch if I go through the White Desert? Is a car with a driver possible? What’s the daily cost of hiring a car with a driver (including the driver’s accommodation and expenses)? How many days should I plan for this route (Saqqara, Fayoum Oasis, Black Desert, White Desert, Ad-Dakhla, El Kharga)?

Are there any cruise boats that do the Cairo-Luxor route (or vice versa)? Dahabiyas? Or at least the Assiut-Luxor stretch?

I’m giving it another shot to share a trip I’ve planned for next July. My itinerary starts in Almaty, Kazakhstan, with hikes around Lake Kaindy and Lake Kolsay, then the Charyn Canyon. After crossing the border into Kyrgyzstan, we’ll head to the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul and finally to Lake Song Kul. There’ll be walks at Fairy Tale Canyon, Seven Bulls, and Barskoon Gorge...

After a flight from Bishkek to Tashkent, we’ll visit the cities of Uzbekistan: Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva.

Transport will be by car with a driver.

We’re a couple in our sixties and would love to share this trip with another couple or two solo travelers.

We had a great time. Now we’ve got to pay the price. We’re down one stop before Katherine. Gotta do the whole trip in one go—6 hours of driving. Let’s go! We’re a bit low on fuel with only 300 kilometers of range. The only station at the lake doesn’t open until 9 a.m., and the next (and only) one is 227 kilometers away… Should we risk it? Except for a magnificent frilled-neck lizard darting across the road on its big hind legs and an emu quickly disappearing into the bush, we didn’t see much. Oh—there was also a donkey, lost and panicked in the middle of the road… A quiet road with some beautiful scenery, some worrying bushfires

and a few opportunities to stop for a "warrior’s rest" (never go beyond the first second of the thought that starts drifting off the road…) We cross an invisible border as we enter the Northern Territory, which comes with consequences—we immediately lose an hour and a half by changing time zones. The speed limit goes from 110 to 130.

We arrive at the self check-in in Katherine. As usual, we’re a little taken aback at first. The noise, for starters. There’s a group rehearsing, it seems. We go check it out. We pass through the doors separating "The Stuart" from the adjoining bar and stumble upon what feels like collective hysteria. Turns out, it’s a concert. Aboriginal musicians completely fired up by some incredible music! There are just three of them, but they’re delivering a wall of sound that reminds us of South Africa’s finest neo-techno with a trance-like vibe. The crowd is wild! They’re singing in unison, screaming with joy. We get gently kicked out by security because we’re carrying our groceries, and they’re not having it. We promise ourselves we’ll come back once we’ve put them away in our little fridge.

Then we land. We end up finding plenty of nice things. It’s very possible we’ll like this place!

We head back to enjoy our post-battle Happy Hour. The concert’s over, but the crowd’s still riding the high. It’s indescribable. People are shouting across the room, screaming just for the fun of it—men and women alike. There’s pool, some beat-up arcade games being shaken like coconut trees. Dom and I feel like anthropologists. We’re pretty blown away. It’s epic! And the beer’s half the price it is elsewhere! We’ll definitely be back—that’s for sure!

We give up on finding a restaurant. Not sure they even exist, at least not this season. So, we’ve got a microwave—we eat at home on our little terrace, with a musical accompaniment from a massive orchestra of birds. It sounds amazing!

Idea for a 15-day itinerary in Cambodia... - 3 nights in Phnom Penh, arriving at 6:30 PM. (2 days to explore the city). - 2 nights in Battambang - 4 or 5 nights in Siem Reap (2 days for Angkor, 1 day for Kulen, 1 day for Tonlé Sap Lake) - 2 nights in Kampot - 2 nights on Koh Rong. Following the (wise) advice of "Les Caribous," I'm starting a post to describe the trip I'd like to take from mid-September 2025 for three weeks. Here’s the planned route: Departing from Nantes. Montréal/Ottawa/Mont-Tremblant/Mauricie/Lac St-Jean/Saguenay Fjord/Tadoussac/Gaspésie, then returning via Québec and Montréal. I’d love some tips on must-see spots and how long to spend at each stop. We’re not big "hikers," so minimal hiking. Don’t hesitate to suggest cutting stops—especially if they seem unnecessary or too time-consuming. Advice on accommodation and vehicle rentals would also be much appreciated. Thanks to everyone who’d like to share their experiences and tips!

Hi everyone on Voyage Forum! In mid-September 2025, a group of friends and I are heading to Montenegro for a week. On my must-see list, I’ve obviously got the Bay of Kotor and Lake Skadar. Besides those two excursions, what else would you recommend seeing or visiting? Just to note, we’ll be staying in the Bijela area.

Another question: Is Tivat Airport operating during that period? I think Transavia flies there. Otherwise, we’d have to go through Dubrovnik, which I’d prefer to avoid—partly because I’ve been there before and partly to skip the border wait.

Maligne, Hot Springs - Fort Fraser - Prince Rupert - Inside Passage by boat - Port Hardy (Vancouver Island) - Port Alberni: 2 days, Cathedral Cove - Ucluelet: 2 days, Tofino - Victoria: 3 days - Crossing to Vancouver - Vancouver: 4 days Total: 27 days.

About the Inside Passage—has anyone here done it? Our only concern is the weather for that boat day between Prince Rupert and the northern part of Vancouver Island. Under clear skies, the landscapes are stunning. If it’s foggy or mediocre weather, well, we’ll have given it a shot! Just know you *have* to book the car passage way in advance.

Hello, We’re arriving in Tana, the capital, by plane on the morning of May 22nd after an overnight flight. Does any forum member know this Malagasy driver-guide: Haja Rasolondraibe? The itinerary below might change or evolve—23 days might not be enough. We’ll visit the central region (the highlands: Antsirabe, Atoetra and a Zafimaniry village, Lake Andrianina) and the unmissable west (Kirindy, the Avenue of the Baobabs, the Tsingy de Bamaraha, and a fishing village). Then back to Tana. After that, we’ll head east of Tana to Ambohimanga, Andasibe, near Tamatave, Ankanin'ny, Mahambo, and Île Sainte-Marie if time allows. Not sure yet. Then back to Tana. This driver-guide with a 4x4 charges 70 € per day, including food and accommodation. Excluding fuel. nous sommes 2 parisiens qui souhaitons partir au Pérou durant le mois d'août. Nous avons déjà une idée précise des étapes de notre voyage mais nous nous posons beaucoup de questions pratiques.

Nous aimerions étaler ce voyage sur 2 semaines et demi / 3 semaines afin de visiter les endroits suivants: Lima, Huacachina, Nazca, Cuzco, Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain et le Lac titicaca. Nous prévoyons également de nous rendre sur les îles de Pâques. Voilà une idée globale des étapes que nous voudrions suivre :



Afin de bien préparer notre voyage, nous avons soulevé plusieurs points et questions:

Selon vous, quel serait le meilleur budget pour réaliser tout cela en comptant les billets d’avions, logements, activités, etc.

Est il intéressant de louer une voiture ? Sinon quels sont les meilleurs moyen de se déplacer sur place ?

Quel serait le meilleur endroit pour partir du Pérou aux iles de Paques et combien de temps il est conseillé de rester la bas ?

De grandes distances séparent 3 de nos étapes (Nazca/Cusco, Cusco/Puño), quelle est la meilleure solution envisageable pour visiter ces 3 endroits ? Il y a surement de beaux endroits à visiter sur la route ?

Est il conseillé de prendre des guides pour les excursions ou est il possible de le faire de son propre chef sans trop de risques ?

Il y a t’il des zone à éviter parmi les lieux cités.

Nous ne pouvons pas partir un autre mois que le mois d’août, quels types de température nous risquons d’avoir là bas sachant que nous avons eu des avis divergeant.

Je suis sportive (trail), mais 1ere rando avec sac à dos en montagne (j'en ai déjà fait d'autres mais pas dans les Alpes) Et concernant les patoux, y-en-a-t-il beaucoup par là ?

Bonjour, Je suis entrain d'improviser un tour de 5 jours entre Crikvenica et Split avec 1 ado et 1 bébé d'un an et demi qui n'aime pas la voiture. J'ai parcouru le forum et pense donc passer par le lac de Novigrad et les gorges de la Zrmanja en suivant l'itinéraire gentiment proposé. Ma question : comme nous aurons déjà fait 2h de voiture pour y arriver, les enfants n'auront que faire d'admirer de beaux paysages par la fenêtre. Plus qu'un road trip, le but est surtout de pouvoir faire l'une ou l'autre balade et se baigner. J'ai déjà noté le restaurant recommandé et j'ai vu qu'il se trouve proche de chutes d'eau. Quels sont les autres endroits le long du circuit qui méritent de descendre de voiture pour un plongeon ou une boucle de balade ?

Je pensais terminer la journée à Nin, y dormir, et faire un tour rapide à Zadar avant de descendre vers les environs de Sibenik (plan A). Est-ce que ça vaut la peine de passer la fin de la journée (coucher de soleil ?) et le la soirée à Nin ou si on n'y fait pas une journée de plage autant aller directement à Zadar et repartir directement le matin (plan B) ou encore de rester dormir près du lac et de passer par Zadar le matin en allant à Sibenik (plan C)? Bonjour, Nous envisageons un safari en 2021 et nous envisageons, avec l'aide d'un TO, de visiter les parcs suivants : Tarangire (2 jours), Las Manyara (1 jour), N'gorongoro (1 jour), Serengeti (4 jours).

Nos questions sont les suivantes entre autre : Quid du lac Natron : intérêts, nombre de jours, faut-il marcher ? Nous aimerions assister au passage de la rivière Mara : juin ou juillet ??

Nous, 2 adultes et 2 garçons de 12 et 10 ans, passerons nos vacances en août à la Tour du Meix au pied du Lac de Vouglans dans le Jura et souhaiterions nous rendre en Suisse pour passer une journée à Genève.

Qui connaitrait un bon plan pour se rendre en voiture là bas, surtout s'y garer à un tarif acceptable et pouvoir visiter le centre de Genève et profiter bien sûr du Lac Léman et de son jet d'eau.

Quels sont les lieux à ne pas manquer ? Il y a-t-il des petites surfaces alimentaires permettant d'acheter de quoi déjeuner comme des salades composées, des boissons fraiches, des sandwiches, revenant moins cher qu'en restauration classique ?

Comment obtenir le Pass Genève ? Où acheter les tickets de tramway et trouver un plan des bus et tram ?
