UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Serbia has three sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list:

Gamzigrad (2007)
These are significant Roman ruins, also classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Studenica Monastery (1986)
The largest and most beautiful of all Serbian monasteries. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Stari Ras and Sopoćani (1979)
These are two neighboring sites listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Stari Ras features the ruins of one of the first capitals of medieval Serbia, while Sopoćani is a small Orthodox monastery.

Belgrade, Serbie
Belgrade
Serbia’s capital offers striking architecture blending 19th-century Austro-Hungarian style with modernist designs. The city also boasts numerous parks and museums, along with a lively atmosphere and vibrant nightlife. On its outskirts, Mount Avala is home to several monuments and military memorials from various wars.
Čačak
A fairly large city in central Serbia with many churches and monasteries in and around it.
Dundjerski Castle
This is one of the most famous castles from the Austro-Hungarian period in the country.
Smederevo Fortress
An imposing 15th-century fortress built on the banks of the Danube in the industrial city of the same name.
Drvengrad
Also known as Küstendorf, this "ethno-village" was built by director Emir Kusturica for his film "Life Is a Miracle," which also highlights the nearby Mokra Gora–Šargan steam train line.
Golubac Fortress
This beautiful 14th-century fortress overlooking the Danube marks the entrance to the Iron Gates gorges on the border between Romania and Serbia.
Gamzigrad
These are significant Roman ruins, also classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Kragujevac
This is Serbia's fourth-largest city, with just a few beautiful buildings dating from the 19th century.
Lepenski Vir
This is one of Serbia’s key prehistoric archaeological sites.
Royal Mausoleum of Oplenac
The necropolis of the Serbian royal dynasty located in the town of Topola.
Monastères de Fruska Gora, Serbie
Monasteries of Fruška Gora
In the national park of the same name, you can visit 16 Orthodox monasteries (Privina Glava, Krusedol, Sisatovac...) as well as many Baroque churches in small villages.
Studenica Monastery
The largest and most beautiful of all Serbian monasteries. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Niš
Serbia’s third-largest city still retains traces of its Ottoman past (including its fortress) and many late 19th to early 20th-century buildings in Baroque or Art Deco styles. On its outskirts, you can also visit the Roman site of Mediana, the beautiful 19th-century villas of Niška Banja, the Crveni Krst concentration camp, the Sićevo Gorge, and the Cerjanska Caves.
Novi Pazar
A large city predominantly inhabited by Bosniaks, with a number of historic monuments and buildings. The UNESCO-listed sites of Stari Ras and Sopoćani are about ten kilometres away.
Novi Sad
Capital of Vojvodina and the second-largest urban area in the country, Novi Sad has an old town dominated by a 17th-century fortress. The city is also a stop for cruise boats on the Danube.
Palic, Serbie
Palić
With its late 19th-century villas, large urban park, mineral springs, and especially its landscaped lake, Palić attracts quite a few visitors.
Serbia Wine Route
This is essentially several circuits around Belgrade with vineyards and estates to discover.
Sokobanja
A renowned spa town and one of the most visited cities in the country. You can explore the remains of a medieval fortress and hike in the surrounding mountains.
Sombor
A rather beautiful city in the north with 18th- and 19th-century architecture.
Sremski Karlovci
About ten kilometres from Novi Sad, this town rich in cultural and historical value offers its old centre for visitors to explore, with its museums, churches, and numerous monuments.

Subotica

This town in the southwest is primarily a base for exploring the nearby Tara Mountains and Zlatibor to enjoy various outdoor activities.
Viminacium
These are the remains of an important Roman city.
Vršac
A medium-sized town near Romania with the remains of an ancient fortress, two monasteries (Mesić and Središte), and vineyards on the outskirts.
Zrenjanin
It's a large city in Vojvodina with many quite attractive 19th-century buildings.

Danube, Serbie
Danube
As in neighboring countries, the Danube remains a navigable waterway with numerous cruise options of varying lengths.
Devil's Town
These are strange geological formations shaped like pyramids carved by erosion.
Resava Caves
These are the main caves to visit in Serbia.
Lake Palic
This landscaped lake in the town of the same name, on the Hungarian border, is one of the country's most visited sites. Visitors come to swim, stroll, or enjoy its mineral springs.
Monts Zlatibor, Serbie
Zlatibor Mountains
Extending from Tara Park, this semi-mountainous area offers excellent trekking, skiing (Tornik), and fishing opportunities. It also features several cultural landmarks, including Roman ruins, traditional villages (such as Sirogojno with its open-air museum), wooden churches, and the Raca Monastery. Don’t miss the popular Mokra Gora–Sargan steam train and the village of Drvengrad, built by Emir Kusturica.
Obedska Bara
A marshy area near Belgrade with abundant birdlife.
Fruska Gora National Park
This mountainous park along the Danube is located not far from Novi Sad. It is home to 16 Orthodox monasteries (Privina Glava, Krusedol, Sisatovac...), quite a few Baroque churches in small villages, and numerous hiking and mountain-biking trails.
Kopaonik National Park
On the border with Kosovo, this mountainous park has been developed for skiing, trekking, and mountain biking.
Tara National Park
Bordering Bosnia, this mid-mountain forest park, along with the nearby Zlatibor Mountains, offers great opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and rafting (Drina Gorges). The wildlife is also rich, including bears, wolves, and many bird species.

This is the name given to the stunning Danube gorges on the border between Romania and Serbia.
